  • that 2001 Maico at 3:15 is mine.....RIP Randall.

  • how come the 1994 shrouds look like the 94 rm/kx shrouds

  • First class video and a cracking backin track aswell...

  • Truly awesome

  • that it but its a mx 125cc 1969 at 1.45 min

  • Another good video Toby. Would have been nice if some had not been butchered and remained as left factory.

Dio you forgot the KX, but hate to say it the Japs were a lot quicker but didnt handle.

  • Maicos were great in the late 70,s but the japs could cut thier price and flood the market with yz rm cr and a hell of lot others.

  • have seen a lot of these bikes in the seventies/eighties here in the Netherlands its great

  • hey awesome video. it is fucking stupid that they tore down the old maico factory for a stupid shoping mall

  • 71' had to look twice, thought it might be a hodaka lol

  • In 1974 I was 16 y.o. I had a Maico 501 as my second dirt bike. This was in a small town in Oregon. Most of my fellow riders had never heard of Maicos. My 501 screamed. Looing back, it was probably way too much bike for me, but it sure was fun. Got rid of it only becuase parts were such a bitch to get. Back then, no internet. Ake Jonassen (Maico rider) was my hero. So sad about Maico and all the other Euro bikes wiped out by the jap factories

  • that almost makes you wanna cry at the end when it is showing all the pics of the old factory it really sucks knowing that the best bikes are in our past and now everything is going digital, fuel injected, and pollution controlled!

  • Thats so stupid why would you tare it down!

  • Nice peice of footage. My dad always wanted to visit that place. Cool video, good music choice.

  • Hey man nice movie like to see old maico shops and like the music man creed is awsome!!

  • Originally this video had Nickelback - Photograph, but was DMCA so used the audioswap

  • Hy! Where did you get that fotos.I am intresting some site with Honda fotos, all models they make,or something like that !Thanks!

  • Maico my day...my old 490 used to vapourize a metzler in about two motos and a plug for every 45 minutes of ride time. cheap! when you consider how much fun it was.

  • i have a blizzard custom maico ...is a misil...motorcicle 2t ...built for speed!!!!!!!!!!

  • when i was 15 i had a maico 490 alpha red gold alloys, this bike was the scariest thing i ever sat on, and the BEST!

  • Yeah! there it is! 86' 500 my dad used to have one still have the video of him riding it back in the day...need to get it on dvd before it disintegrates haha

  • Thanks mate, so great to see them all and their birthplace!!!!

  • Badass video man! Badass! I have always wanted to see pictures of the old factory. Its a shame they demoed it. Thank you again from all of us Maico freaks out there! I would love to find some more info on that 4 stroke i saw...

  • Those 4 stroke prototypes are mostly home made, there are several of them even with primative water cooling. Maico bottom end with home made 4 stroke top end. Maico did have a prototype 4 stroke in 86.

  • I was thinking about that today. Why they hell would they discontinue such a project??? A liquid cooled 4 stroke, made from a Maico 2 stroke bottom end? In the 80s? Damnit Maico!

  • plz look at my videos! because you love maicos and hona's!

    you got nice bikes!

  • an cute muh talaga maico

  • maico 490 alpha one?

  • I thought Maico no longer existed?

Do they sell in europe only? Haven't seen them here (U.S.) since the early 90's

  • See my two other videos, "Maico Returns in 2009" and "Maico rise and fall of a legend"

  • my 76 maico aw400 was my sweet sweet dirt tool of all time!!!!

  • @MotoScootBill I bet it could have given a TT500 a run for its money on the hillclimbs.

  • I have see Maico motocross at "mottaccio del balmone" MAGGIORA (Italy)

  • maico 700cc was the best bike

  • The number you're looking for is 490.

    :-)

  • I have a Maico 685 2t from 2004, tuned by Ebos so now it haves around 80 hp.

It is impossible to kick-start tho :/

  • that would be sweet to walk into to that factory if it was still around and see ppl dressed in 80's clothing building the old maico bikes...man i need a time machine

  • I miss Maico. You're right JustEnduro it was THE bike. Still could be actually. I can still smell the mineral oil gas mix.

  • i love the size of the cylinders on them

  • What year maico stoped the production??

  • Maico has produced a bike every year.

1983 the original company bankrupt. The description on the video has a timeline of ownership since its changed hands several times since 1983, but every year a bike has been produced.

  • The BIKE!

    No need to say anymore.

At least 20 years ahead of the times.

Would give my left anything to rebuild one of these!

  • still sucks the original factory had to close, maico was so far ahead of there time, to me the 81 490 mega 2 is best motocrosser to ever be produced.

id love to buy a new 09 250, only way ill ever get rid of my ktm is to buy a MAICO!

  • I found an article scanned online that reviewed the new Maicos against KTM 4 strokes. The article was jadded towards 4 strokes, you can find it on mywesite under magainzes called stone temple pilots

  • ill check it out, but i can definetly say ill never own another 4 stroke after my XR200

  • why u allways writing jadded?

  • i recently bought a magazine with a review of the maico 700 08 model. looks like a phenomenal bike and it has 82hp at the rear wheel. thats astonishing for a 2 stroke motorcrosser.

  • I found an article scanned online that reviewed the new Maicos against KTM 4 strokes. The article was jadded towards 4 strokes, you can find it on mywesite under magainzes called stone temple pilots

  • Ahhh... the days when my friends and I would roll to the grid on our Wheelsmith Maicos...striking fear in the hearts of all the"other" brands...it's a nice feeling to know that no one else can out handle, out accelerate, or out jump you... truly state of the art motocross weaponry... what awesome photos, awesome memories... awesome machines... thanks again

  • Maico 685 2-Stroke supermoto video NOW! I wanna see, i wanna hear, i wanna see it work so bad :( 200km/h on gravel rumours but no videos anywhere 5/5!

  • There is a video on youtube, the 685 is used in the ATK Intimidator 700 model. It's not in the Maico frame but it's the same motor, it's not maxed out or anything but there are 2 videos of it. Search on 700 ATK and you should find them.

  • Thanks! :p

  • i used to own a armstrong 500 motorcrosser rotax 2 stroker when i was a kid i have never seen another 1 since does any 1 no anything about these machines not the shitty army bikes,

  • Clews Competition Motorcycles was found in 1971 out of BSA's competition department. In fact, CCM produced machines branded as CanAm in the early 80s for sale in north america.

In 1981 Armstrong bought a majority share of CCM and CCM-Armstrong was born and used Rotax engines (Austrian made engines used by many different manufactures, even Can Am),

In the 80s they produced many road race and motorcross compeition bikes. They sold back to CCM in 1987. CCM still exists as does rotax.

  • They are brittish bikes

  • cybermotorcycle,com/gallery/armstrong/

The Armstrong MT was for the brittish military. The MX was the motocross.

  • RIP Maico. The old school: Maico, CZ, Ossa, Zundapp, Hodaka, Penton, CCM are all just memories.I had a 1974 250 CZ and rode with all these bikes.

  • Had to change the audio from "Photograph" by Nickelback to something from the Audio Swap library due to copyright claim.

  • lol maicos my name

  • they are tanks....

  • Toby-great video, thanks for sharing..and yes as long as we and our children are, Maicos will live.

  • Very true! I fully intend for my children to grow up riding Maico. I'll obviously have to wait on that one a while since I'm still just 17, but it will happen some day.

  • Never say goodbye to Maico. Maico will live on as long as there is a motocross battle to be fought.

  • sweeeet , great video

    2009 685!! i want one!-lol

  • In the US, ATK buys the 685 engine from Maico and uses it in their 700cc Intimidator model. You can go to atkusa website to purchase it without having to import a maico, of coruse it will say ATK on it and not Maico but it's the same engine.

  • brings tears to my eyes and makes the feeling grow to buy every maico build before 1987 I can find I wish my grandpa could see this

RESPECT to all Maicomaniax all over the planet for keeping this dream ALIVE........

  • hey tobyeo,

it´s braking my heart each time I drive by this fucking supermarket standing on holy ground.

But there are still 3 buildings left.

F... the german government to protect all german car and bike producers but Maico

  • I visited the Maico factory in 82. They thought I was a factory rider coming to test a bike. I should have taken them up on the offer (would have had my 15 minutes of fame).

  • great pics m8 maicos rule for ever love them

  • Thanks, at the risk of chancing having my mancard revoked I would have to say It put a little tear in my eye. Nice job!
