Ricky Nelson had a such a lovely face and sweet voice. A sad loss to the music world when he passed on so young. RIP RICKY. You are remembered with love!
No bells and whistles on this one. Just Ricky Nelson singing one of the greatest love songs of our time - and that ain't bad. Thanks for sharing with us.
We use to watch O&H in the late 50's, early 60's and sit on front of the television and my Mother and Father would be on the couch laughing with us kids.
My Three Sons,The Nelsons, Topper, Gale Storm, The Honeymooners, Ed Sullivan and the one that started it all, I Love Lucy, and American Bandstand, were a few of the more popular shows.
Laugh In, The Smother's Brothers, Ed Sullivan again came at the end of the decade.
@rinaldolobo Real singers like this do exist, but you will never find them if you look in the music industry, the industry tends to destroy all original and great singers. They can only take great singers, break them and remake them into clones of what is popular ATM. To find great singers now you have to look at independent artists, ones who don't depend on big labels for anything and those aren't easy to find sadly :/
A wonderful & memorable song, thanks also to the movie"Ghost" which featured the version of The Righteous Brothers. Ricky sang this beautifully. Never heard this before and the photos in this video are all nice. RIP, my Idol....Thanks to AaronK33 for this post. Mabuhay from The Philippines. May 14, 2011.
Though this is the first time that I've heard this rendition by Ricky, you can't miss that boyish Ricky Nelson charm that was so popular when I was growing up.
Love it love it love it !! What a wonderful clear voice he had, and so good looking !
None of todays " entertainers " come close to looking as good as he was. Thank you SO MUCH for putting these GREAT songs on for us to enjoy, & even get emotional over a wonderful talent lost to us, but still with us.
i never knew he did this song, wow, years before Bobby hatfield to.....im as straight as an arrow, but i haveto say, he was a goodlooking kid, looked like a young Elvis in some pics here......RIP !
la secundaria compadre...! que tiempos, claro que uno sabe que no volveran pero ello no implica que los recuerde con un dejo de tristeza por todo lo que ello fue...
I remember this song when it came out in 1957. I was in HS and all the girls swooned over "Ricky". He was well know for his family Nelson family show but branched out into the music singing field, at that year. I do remember that George Hamilton sang the song also, in that year. What ever happened to George's cheerleader ex wife Alana Hamilton. She was on TV for awhile and a real knockout ! Great version of this song that I will always remember from the year & times!
Rick had a sweet voice, but this is not a very challenging version. The one by Hugo is much better. IMO, Rick was better off with straightforward rockers.
One of my favorite romantic ballads of all time...had no idea the late great Rick Nelson had done a version until I came here to youtube. DYNAMITE stuff! Thank you for posting it! :)
Heavens to Murgatroid! I had NO idea the late great Rick Nelson had done a version of one of my all time favorite romantic ballads. Very nice & touching! THANK YOU very much for sharing it with us! :)
OMG soooo beautiful!! <3 I thought it was Bobby Vinton there for a moment =) sounds like his version here, perfecto song Ricky HANDSOME! ;) hehe xxxxxx
I was around 11 when the Righteous Brothers did their great version.I remember seeing Ricky Nelson lots on tv in earlier years, never knew he did this too!
Ricky is so natural in this song that you feel like he could be talking to the one he loves and not singing. Very few artists have or \had this quality, not even the king himself.
Rick's version fits the times he recorded it, which was loaded with choral backgrounds and simple rhythm parts. He was not part of R&R's early "EMO" movement.
What a beautiful looking man, unfortunately even though this was ealier than the righteous brothers, and is very melodious, its got too much of a chocolately feel for a song made so deep by the righteous bros
one of my favorite songs and a difficult song to do but Ricky Nelson pulls it off beautifully I really think this is my favorite version. Just terrific.. Sad he left us way too early

Rick Nelson sang this song long before the Righteous Brothers recorded it. It was originally a song in an old 1950s B Movie about a prisoner called Unchiined. It was sang by the lead character but evidently didn't actually have a title. When somebody recorded it after the movie they just called it the "Unchained Melody" It's gone by that title ever since.
@Bosielskza the original actually is crap all hibbler made the first usfull version of it. Rickys just beats it slightly but thats a matter of point of view.
@Bosielskza I didn't know it either..then I typed in Unchained Melody on google..and found out it was written in 1955 and to date is the song most sung by the most artists..of course ..to me.. Righteous Brothers do it the best..
@C0r3d33zNutz "Unchained Melody" ~ Lyrics by Hy Zaret and music by Alex North. The song was originally used in a prison film "Unchained" in 1955. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack. Al Hibbler's version hit #3 pop and #1 R&B on Billboard's charts in 1955. The Righteous Brothers version hit #4 in 1965.
Excellent version, by Ricky.
