This is the USA, the wealthy got that way because of how great a country we have, let them pay for that priviledge. Regan had them paying 36%, and under Ike they were paying 90%. Let's go to a nice even 50% and tax the hell out of inheratence over $10Million in total (not to each individual) at 75%. Those people did not earn the parents' money, after all.
@gemini1766 AMERICA became prosperous BECAUSE of industrious PEOPLE. We started off in a wild, untamed country and PEOPLE it, not bureaucrats. This country was founded on NATURAL RIGHTS - that is, GOD-GIVEN rights of individuals NOT to be punished for whatever talents they have been blessed with (not their doing) and APPLYING it. Charity is a moral responsibility, not a crooked politicians mandate. It is WRONG to force individuals to pay for subjects or ideals they do not agree with.
The "Fair Tax" system favors those who make lots of money, as their purchases do not make up a considerable portion of their yearly income, unlike the average person who currently has to watch every penny. Such Taxes are not fair. They only appear to be, and when you find that such a tax has been implimented, it's too late to change it in a reasonable amount of time. The rich are better off while the rest of us get rolled, again.
@gemini1766 Not true. The fairtax plan rebates directly to everyone enough to cover all taxes paid for low income spending. If that's all you spend, you will pay no net taxes. But for everything you spend above that level, you pay full taxes, with no deductions.
@gemini1766 The FairTax favors ALL LEGAL US CITIZENS. If you live here or visit here, you will pay the same taxes, regardless. What that does is puts illegal immigrants and the underground economy on the same, level, playing field as us Americans. Illegal Immigrants don't pay income taxes because they can't report income, drug dealers don't report income made on selling drugs, and prostitutes don't report income on what they earn. BUT! They ALL have to buy things to survive.
Your outrage over government collecting taxes on its spending is selective and therefor disingenuous.
Federal taxes already embed them selfs in government spending though federal taxes on public employee wages, and private (wages and profit) from government purchases.
Ever wonder why your the only one who complains about this? Everyone else sees though your smoke screen.
so... the government has to pay taxes to itself so it can spend taxes on itself... all of this will have to administered... which will cost money (taxes)...
I notice you also miss quote the percentage of the FairTax as 30%. Shame on you. You actually have access to the book where the 23% / 30% , inclusive tax / exclusive tax misunderstanding is very clearly explained. So you continue to wrongly state the percentage not because you don't "understand" but because you hope to perpetuate the misunderstanding. I'm fascinated. What a shame to have to go around deceiving people...especially good people w/ a good plan who want our country to succeed!
Wow. Name calling. AWESOME. Let's all pay close attention to you! What REALLY says on page 140 is that: "governments at all levels already pay taxes. The income and payroll taxes that gov. deducts from the checks of gov. employees-plus the employers's portions of the payroll tax- are all remitted to the federal government out of government coffers." Then it goes on to explain how embedded taxes (22% of the price we ALL pay now) is already being paid by government at all levels.
The final point they close with is this: "Who would benefit form government paying the FairTax? Why, that would be government. Just where is the problem here?" --Exactly. The FairTax is revenue neutral. Under the FairTax the gov. will have every penny as much revenue as it does now. Suggesting that it "won't work" because the gov. would have to pay taxes leads one to believe that the amount it will pay in taxes has not already been accounted for...well it has, and it still works.
Or maybe the did address it on page 138 (yes I looked it up) and you just missed it. No Problem, you have the book and you can check it out.
The criticism they mention (and handedly debunk) is this:
"The FairTax keeps the rate low by taxing government consumption. But taxing the government doesn't make sense-and it won't work."
The math still works even though the government pays taxes, that amount is accounted for. It goes on to explain how the government is paying employment & other taxes now
Not only that, but it already collects taxes from government spending through embedded taxes in government purchases and taxes on government employee wages.
Posts including profanity and personal attacks have been and will continue to be removed.
FairTaxHUB is meant to push the FairTax conversation forward. The FairTax idea is powerful and would revolutionize this country economically and by extension socially. The current system is punishing work ethic and ambition...the very things a slowing economy needs more of. We at the HUB are not focused on what the tax percentage is or if government taxes its own services. Its the overall idea we need.
Re: Al Gore, one of his mantras is "tax what you burn, not what you earn". The Fair Tax takes that one step further, replacing "burn" with "consume", which IMHO is the right way to go. I support the Fair Tax on the KISS principle alone.

If one accepts the "22 millon$ of research" of "Fair" Tax supporters, one has to accept the following :
1) On average, would raise the taxes of those making from $15k to $159k and would lower the taxes of those making over $150k
2) Someone is "better off" if his inc. drops from about $40k a year to $10k (Table 13 yr 7-8 , tinyurl 593htl
3)The econ. will take of in a pos. manner if most people ($15k to $150k) have less money after tax
Don't take my word, read it: tinyurl 593htl, page 30 on

Imagine the trees we would save.....Al Gore should be onboard for that alone!!
The 'carbon footprint' of all the hot air coming from the IRS as well as irrate tax filers trying to translate the forms.
