  • Are those regular scissors?!

  • lol @ the chick comparing hair care to surgery, "professionals" im sorry- i know what you do can get technical but comparing a career that deals with someones insignificant hair to surgical bodily procedures is a completely unjustifiable claim. if i wanted to do hair i could walk to the paul mitchell school three blocks away and be accepted, i think its a tad harder to get into medical school (not to put down anyones career choice if you love your job but technically we all could live bald)

  • Wow...thank you so much!! Today I needed a trim and here was your video!! Keep them coming!!!

  • I do not have the balls to cut my hair yet! Lol. Basically I was wondering if I heard you correctly...I should hold my fingers vertically throughout the entire cut so as to keep whatever layers I do have? And what was it you did with a 90 degree angle..I'm obv not a mathematician, but is that the same as holding you hands vertically? Thanks!!

  • your hair is beautiful

  • this was helpful

  • how do you know how to do all this?

  • Really appreciate this video, thanks for posting!

  • Does it matter which kind of scissor I use?

  • I LOVE THE MUSIC IN THE BACK GROUND PLAYING . WHAT IS IT CALLED? AND WHERE CAN I GET IT ? THAN YOU

  • I have nice healthy hair that I relax, but there is nothing like natural hair..so beautiful

  • LOL, i havent even had the vid download yet and im weak at all the negative comments! Its the comments that makes these vids easier to enjoy for the most part anyhow, keep spreading the hate people, it feeds the trolls :D

  • @naptural85 if your hair is shorter than yours do you have any advice on how to view your back hair better for trimming ??? :) PLEASE ANSWER MEEE

  • People get crazy in the comment section, it's amazing. I was planning on trimming my hair tonight but I'm not sure.

  • Hi! Are those regular scissors or shears? Just making sure I can use regular scissors...??? Thanks!!!

  • Great video! Please tell me more about this "modified denman" Thanks!

  • I really wish I would have watched this vid before I chopped off three inches of my hair :(

Neck length for two years is so depressing :(

    I feel horrible :(

  • you're so smart and beautiful.

  • I think all the people saying negative things about this should be silenced because look at her hair since then. Obviously she is doing something right. SO HUSH.

  • What beautiful hair you have!

  • is it just the camera or do you have blue eyes? OMG im fastinated right now

  • Love your hair! :) and to those people that are like "Well i am a stylist and blah blah " thanks for saying we are "stupid and need to spend our $ on cuts that we most of the time don't like. (I'm gona hate myself for this cas people irk me when they go all "well I know a person so I know everything") I used to know a pro stylist she was my sis for a bit and she cut her own hair! no fanciness either cut it like this lady and other people that want to save some cash!... lol thats all folks

  • As a professional stylist I can ensure that if her hair was blown out straight it would be uneven as hell.. No one can cut their own hair correctly without being able to work in a 360 motion. I can't even cut my own hair.. Why be ignorant and cheap? Just find a great stylist that you trust and go in for a trim every 6 to 8 weeks.. People are so silly...

  • @BlackBuddha777 When people are happy and productive in their own lives, they have no time or interest in berating others. Have a blessed day...

  • @loveispeaceandjoyful moreover, u would be outraged if she created a video showing people how to perform some sort of surgery on themselves. That same outraged should by apply to this specific video. There's no outrage because women like you don't have respect for our profession. I can list a number of professional reasons why what she's doing is incorrect but i'm not cuz women who love the best will come to great stylist like me & cheap & ignorant women will continue to use videos like this

  • @BlackBuddha777 Good thing she almost NEVER applies heat to her hair. She doesn't even want to straighten it out. :/ Another thing, It's not bad to be cheap but if being smart by not paying a hell of a load of money on hair you know how to do by yourself is ignorant... then I don't even want to know what you call stupid or moronic -_-

  • @Mission145Sexy On average a "trim" is between $35 to $65 depending on where you go, if you want the best you have to pay for the best. Moreover, if you consider $35 a lot of money then i wonder how could you've possibly obtain access to a computer. :o/

  • @BlackBuddha777 Excuse you, I said that if it works to do your hair by yourself and she has achieved long length and healthy hair that is even curly, Why pay someone $35-$65 to do what you already know how to. Also, I HAVE a iphone4s, a Laptop, and an ipod touch. I didn't need your AMAZING deduction skills to tell me what I don't ( but obviously clearly) do have... Thank You -_-

  • @Mission145Sexy Healthy? What's healthy? Have you been professionally trained in the science of Trichology? No! You can't tell if someone's hair is healthy from just looking at it because it goes a lot more deeper than just appearance, If you're not a licensed cosmetologist or Trichologist you can't make such a judgement. This is fact and not opinion so spin it any way you want but it is what it is. I guess ignorance is truly bliss for some.

  • @BlackBuddha777 I NEVER made the call her hair was healthy but she has said it many a time. I have had licensed cosmetologist look at my hair and mess it up every which way because they thought that they KNEW what they were doing, which was clearly not the case. So even when it comes down to cosmetologist and such it is also opinion. Unless you look at hair with a microscope, and I doubt that I have ever went somewhere with a microscope.

  • @BlackBuddha777 (cont.) Plus I believe this video is geared towards people who either were just curious or actually wanted to trim their own hair. -_- NOBODY sit down and made you watch this video. Commenting on something you don't agree on is fine to do but not when you are insulting someone in the process. So I believe if you feel that strongly about people but cutting their own hair you should make your own videos on how you do such a process w/o applying any heat or anything. THANK YOU -_-

  • @Mission145Sexy Wow, my spelling is horrendous. You understand what I mean.

  • @Mission145Sexy Why would I teach a non professional how to do something that requires a trained professional to do? You people are so clueless.

  • @BlackBuddha777 I said " you should make your own videos on how you do such a process w/o applying any heat or anything. " I never said that you should teach someone on something only professionals do. But I can clearly see that you only believe you are right ( IGNORANCE ) so I have nothing more to say to you -_-

  • @Mission145Sexy Child bye! you shouldn't have said anything to me in the beginning because you obviously have no idea what you're talking about..

  • @BlackBuddha777 Wow, just when I thought I didn't have anything else to say. I DO KNOW what I am talking about and in all honesty you do too. We just have different opinions on it. Once again thinking your superior by insulting someone else. -_- Glad to see that makes you feel better. Good Luck in life

  • This was sooo helpful. Thank you for sharing. The last time I clipped my ends, i think I cut off too much and my hair was uneven and just weird. XD

  • Thanks, this is really useful, love your hair and the music is really relaxing!

  • your hair is beautiful!

  • Do you always trim your own hair?

  • there is more to cutting hair properly than this. it's important to use scissors made for cutting hair because they are sharper. if you cut with a dull edge you risk CAUSING split ends. also you should never cut your hair on an angle. because you risk exposing more of your hair's cortex which can lead to breakage.

  • u wd see better if you had a blow out, its hard to tell if your hair really needs a trim......

  • I trim my own hair. But Let me stop bragging before I fuck up the next time lmfao

  • oy're only supposed to cut your hair when you have split ends, or it literally just get's shorter.

  • your hair is sooo long! I love it!

  • It seems like you are cutting too much, but i suppose you can see the damage better than us.

  • I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but how do you separate the layers? Better yet what defines a layer? o_o

  • I love that music

  • Will it work for everyone that have very short hair as well as long hair too?

  • where can I get the hair brush that u use in the video?

  • @MsShanii09 i got mine from sally's. it comes in a box. to modify it, you can slide the rubbery red part out and remove every row of the white teeth. i can't remember how much it was...maybe 15 bucks or so.

  • @munkee21 *sorry, every OTHER row

  • thank you!!!

  • i want to trim but i wouldnt know what i was doing :(

  • my boyfriends a barber, im gonna make him watch this and trim my ends lol thankkkk youu

  • i wish i would have watched this....my hair was getting long and i went to this stupid lady, and she cut soooo much off. i know my hair is healthy and not a lot needed to come off. at least my hair will grow back but geez...it sumtimes makes you wonder if the stereotypes are true....some people are too scissor happy!

  • Im glad i found this! YAY! I was at first clueless about if i had to still trim my hair. I have been natural for only 2 months now that i know you can trim it within 6 to 8 months thats just AWESOME!

  • you have the cutest hair

  • Were can you buy a denman brush

  • I just noticed your brush is missing a few rows. Did you take them out because your hair is so thick or are you that hard on brushes?

  • u have great natural hair. I wish I didn't have a perm. But My moms been doin it since i was 4. i'm 19 now.

  • you have very beautifull hair

  • I just cut the rest of my perm ends off and I'm really loving my curls. Thank you so much for posting this video.

  • Thanks for this I forgot that I can cut my hair when it is in a curly state and I dont have to flat iron it.

  • Thank you for this....I just did my first. Save me $150-200 for a New York city haircut.

  • your hair is gorgeous!

  • her hair is really long should have straighten it 3 times a year

  • @BOTDFfanXD Me toooo :)

  • Waaah! I wish I had hair like yours!

  • Isn't your hair hard to stay in a twist when you've just cut it? What style do you use.

  • I love your hair....its perfect! Pay no mind to the loser comments you have on your page.....Stay focus :)

  • Hi, How long have you been natural?

  • Hi Naptural85, I'm just a little over a year into my natural hair journey and I just saw your vid on trimming your own hair. Can you please talk about how you keep single strand knots to a minimal? I'm staring to notice them more often now that my hair is shoulder length (when stretched). They are preventing my hair from growing as fast as it once did. Any recommendations would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

  • THE AD! HAHAHAHHA

  • would u be able to cute ur hair when its dry? when i went to a hair stylist she trimmed my hair when it was straightened.

  • I have a question about blunt cuts. Can you fix those?

  • you're hair is beautiful

  • how do you keep your hair healthy and avoid damaged hair or split ends or breakage? I have really thick med-long 3c/4a hair that tends to be dry. Thanks!

  • Thanks love your vids! Some people say cut your your hair when it's dry! I really dont want to blow dry my hair right now after doing a deep conditioning treatment because it got a little fried by the sun after cutting the grass. gonna try it cutting it wet!

  • Thank you so much for this!! I've been needing a trim but no one I know can do it when my hair is natural! Now I can try and do it myself :)

  • Comment removed

  • @CBb1987 if you don't like her hair why'd you watch it?

  • @PshhurmomxD i know right,,, STUPID people

  • @CBb1987 I'm sure you are a racist.

  • I'm adding this video to my favorites. I use to trim every 6-8 weeks, but my hair wasn't showing any growth. So now, I trim when I can feel my hair needs it, about every 6 months. I've seen major growth, since changing the times I trim my hair. Plus I do a deep conditioner every week. :) Thanks for video!

  • it looks like you cut unnecessary...your ends looked fine....

  • I'm Asian, and I am dying to try this! Most videos I find says "how to cut your own hair" but really, I want to TRIM MY OWN HAIR. Thank you for your time to post this. :)

  • Does trimming our hair help make it grow faster?

  • @the09conradz not necessarily...if you had bad ends like split ends, then you should definately cut them, but if there's nothing wrong with your hair then you don't need to

  • @InTheDark43 actually not true you should trim your end every 4-8 weeks whether your ends are damaged or not to maintain healthy ends :)

  • @nothingz4ever71 but if the ends are already healthy then there's no need to cut them...

  • @InTheDark43 so i see what you're saying. do you need to clip your hair, but i don't know that means.

  • @the09conradz clip your hair? I don't know what that means either lol....

  • @InTheDark43 alright

  • Trimming my hair is one of the most painful things for me to do bc i c how much its grown but at the same time i c these gross dry crunchy ends so i hav no choice.

  • Your hair grew

  • GREAT tutorial! i've always been wary of cutting my own curly hair, but your method looks relatively simple and effective. will give it a shot!

also your curls are sooooo cute! :D

  • Where do you buy that type of brush??

  • @periz21 goody sells them I bought mine at Walgreens I've also seen them at Wal-Mart. Hope that helps. You can also get them from the Denman website. They are relatively inexpensive. Hope that helps.

  • thank you!!!

  • Finally someone who has the exact texture of hair that I have....this tut was VERY helpful!!!

  • Thanks so much

  • what kind of shears are those?

  • omg i love her so much

  • I love your videos! Yours are the most helpful so far! :)

  • CAN SHEA BUTTER GROW UR HAIR OR CAN U AT LEAST PUT IT IN UR HAIR

  • Wet hair? I don't do that, cause your hair * if it's curly * it'll curl up

and then when it does dry, it may look wrong. Just don't do it wet.

unless your fersure bout doing it. but trimming hair dry is the better way!

  • You have really beautiful hair

  • do you get alot of the strand knots on your hair? and did you use regular siczors?

  • Thank you this video, I feel more confident about trimming my natural hair now

  • @vaumel Me Too!

  • thanks! I didn't even know that we can cut our split ends without first straigtening it first.

  • You have beautiful hair!!

  • THANK YOU!! this help a lot!! my hair was had so many split ends and i didnt have cash for the salon , thank for saving me cash too!

    <3

  • Wow. I ususally do the same thing, but I straighten each section before I trim it with the straightening iron. You have a beautiful natural hair by the way!

  • beaaaaaauuutttiiifffuuullll hair... thanks for the video bc i am long overdue for a trim!

  • Thanks so much!! I'll be 1 year perm free this Month and haven't trimmed since my BC....I really need to do this...thanks!

  • i tried this technique, didn't work for me lol. i think it's because my hair's too long and curly. helpful video though, i'll definitely be showing my cousins

  • I tried this method when I trimed my hair yesterday. I think it works best on dry natural hair.

  • what if ur hair is not long enough were u can pull the middle and back of ur hair to ur face?

  • @superiorone23 : Maybe you can do mini twists and just clip the ends of it.

  • I think you should straighten it because when you comb you hair it gets kinda straight and it looks really pretty

  • You have beautiful hair. DO NOT relax it!!!

  • I've been looking for a video like this! Thank you so much for posting. A couple of people told me I had to blow dry and straighten my hair first in order to trim my ends! WHAT?! That's why I haven't done it yet because I didn't want to go through the trouble of doing all that just to cut my ends! So glad I found this video! Thanks for letting me know that I can trim my ends without having to go through all that mess! ;-)

  • your hair is beautiful

  • I've got a question about scissors used. WhenI go to the hairdress and my straightened hair is trimmed, they talk about super sharp expensive scissors that won't cause further breakage. Which scissors do you use????

  • @pinkysux her hair is amazing idk what your talking about

  • u are so beautiful

  • Thanks so much. I did the bc in April of last year so it's almost been a whole year and I have not properly trimmed it since then.

  • This is exactly how I cut mine! Thanks for the extra tips too! :)

  • Where are your hair shears from and how much did they cost. Great video btw :)

  • wats your hair type? it looks a lil silky and shiny too. beautiful

  • mano, que cabelo ruim o da senhora.

  • what is your hair type? your hair texture looks exactly like mine.

  • @cmetube1 yeah sometimes I'm not able to view certain videos from the peeps I subscribe to. Wondering if it's Apple or YouTube...

  • I am so afraid to cut my hair this way. I'm always afraid that I will cut off to much or that I won't be able to tell what needs to be clipped. I do two strand twists in small sections and cut off the thin weathered ends.

  • thank you for doing this video :) it helped me a lot!!

    God Bless!!

  • I am about to give this a try. Thanks for the video. I really don't want to go to a salon just to trim hair.

  • I wanted to tell you that I've bee natural for 7 years now (for 6.5 of those years, I wore weaves). I've been wearing my natural hair out for a few months, and I needed to trim my ends because they were getting difficult to comb through/manage. Your video helped me tremendously! I trimmed my hair last night. I immediately saw a difference in my two strand twists and how they curled at the end after the trim. Thank you SO MUCH! You're making this natural hair journey easy and fun for me.

  • Awesome video...I was just wondering how often I should trim my hair..thanks for making this video..your page is super helpful...

  • how am i supposed to know what to cut???

  • Hey, you said you used a "modified denmin brush." Um, what makes it modified? And is the unmodified better?

  • @gggrinz I looked at the brush with the video stilled. It looks as if she removed every other row of bristles on it. I'm going to try it!

  • @whilome You are right, she mentioned that she did that in one of her other videos.

  • lol omg I though that I was the only one who trimmed my hair like this.

  • could you recommend a good pair of shears? also as far as sharpness, how can I tell they are sharp? I heard no gap between the blades is good.

  • hello, i'm sorry if you've been asked this before but i wondering if you wouldnt mind sharing where you purchase your shea butter thank you

  • did you do your own layers??

  • I can't believe someone would dislike this very informative and respectful video from you. I just wonder who that may be?

  • R U EVER GONNA FLAT IRON YOUR HAIR ???

  • since you love world music try this website. it is my absolute favorite! afropop.org

  • Wow u got a LOT of shrinkage. Your hair is really long. Its gorgeous. Thanks for the vid, I'll definately use it at my one year mark :)

  • Great vid as usual!!!!!

  • Hello! Big fan- lately I have been unable to view your video on my IPad. I get a message that says the author does not allow playback on IPad. Is there something you are doing differently when you upload. Thank you

  • GREAT JOB!!!!! I will surely try this when my hair needs a good trim!!!! <3

  • Thanks!

  • Your hair always has so much sheen. Do you think it has more to do with your diet, or what you put in your hair? You mention shea butter in this video. Do you use anything else?

  • i just realized how ridiculously looong your hair has grown! I am super jealous, lol

Great vid btw, I'll be studying abroad in India so this will definitely come in handy when the time comes for me to trim my ends, thanks girl!

  • Yeah! i needed this! LOL.

I'd like to trim my hair next week...my ends look horrible...

    SO thanks for the vid!

  • OMG! Thank you soooo much for this vid!

  • Hey I love your videos! What type of spray are using? You said spray your hair with water but the liquid in the bottle looks pink...

  • great tips. thanks for posting.

  • modified denman? how did you modify it?

  • nice do u do your own layers? if so tutorial please lol

  • gotta do a trim tonight,,,
