Like most Handel overtures - the Alexander's Feast overture transports the listener to another dimension - one of lofty grandeur, beauty, and idealism.
Dear catming2, the pictures are a little bit older than Händel. They were painted between the late 15th (high-renaissance) and 17th century (most of them in the 17th century: manierism and baroque).
Händel was born 1685 (high-baroque) and died 1759 (when baroque was displaced by rococo).
I hope, my explanations weren't too long. :-) And sorry for my English.
I say, Bach is the greatest, but Handel is definitely one of the greatest. In fact many people say it would be Mozart or Beethoven who are the best. I would much rather listen to Handel!
@sauron093 .Cierto.Bach es el mas grande,podrí considerarse el Padre.El hijo,bien pudiera ser Mozart.El Espíritu Santo,póngase a quién se quiera.Bien pudieran ser Haendel,Vivaldi,Beethoven,Tchaikovsky,Schumann...
@sauron093 I agree! I think Bach is probably the greatest composer who ever lived. Yet I mostly listen to Händel. There is something about Händel that I can't define. An absolute complete composer. And he has a unique expression. Maybe you can define It?

HA!, you're wrong, the best is obviously YANNI. It would seem you know nothing of classical music.

@sauron093 Whatever people might say, I'm certain Mozart and Beethoven would put Bach and Handel before themselves.
