  • tumbs up for saint johns! and happy valley goose bay! you better tumbs up by! or I'll beat die ins out a ya!

  • What with those glasses....

  • Why is everyone saying she's not a Newfie? The younger generations don't usually have as strong accents as older people, and Newfie accents vary from area to area. The people from, say, the west coast sound different than someone from people in St. John's. She could be like me, from central Newfoundland. We don't have super strong accents, but they're there.

  • You don't have much of a Newfie accent, cool video tho, will give me leverage towards my Newfie friends, lmao

  • @sexybabygirlization y don't u shut tha hell n go suk a dick. stop trollin asshole. newfoundland has great schools probly better than tha 1s u hav in yur shitty ass town. im from da maritimes n lots of people use those stereotypes on us. ps in pei we dont just grow potatoes n if u think we do then yur a fuckin retard. dont go dissing some1 ur sumthin u don't know a damn thing about

yur stunned as me arse- stunned means stupid and arse means ass

  • 1:11 - your sister getting raped?????

  • Us newfs totally do say these things. However, you didn't explain them very well! Which is sad because i bet there actually are people who heard about NL slang and want to laugh at us for it. I love when people laugh at newfies and us newfs are just like "AHAH EH BY WHA." We're great.

  • Newfoundland obviously doesn't have schools you guys sound like fucking idiots and are known to the rest of Canada as the biggest liars and hypocrites.

  • dinner and a meal.. hahahahah

  • LOL im from cape breton and i end a lot of my sentences with b'y too :3

  • Everything you say , your explaining it the exact same way you said it like " how yah gettin on by? " mean .. how yah gettin on ?

Aint that foolish means thats foolish?

    Shockin means shockin?

Give us a bit a dat - means give me a bit of that?

Your not explaining anything.. that is not clear to foreigners

  • Yay Newfoundlanders :)

  • Your doing a good job!

  • stupiddddd

  • your glasses rock haha !!

  • I love hearing all of this. I was born in the states & live in Florida, but the family's from Port Union & St. John's & I speak Newfinese still (accent included). My friends love it! It drives them nuts though when they hear me talking to a mate from Belfast. He talks VERY fast & they can't keep up, but we're good. Got one for ya. "By Christ! Ya gotta good haul there, bye!" -What I used to hear when the paycheck was a nice bit of change. Stay warm. :)

  • how come she only has an accent when she says the slang?

  • me and tree ah duh by's went oot fishn' onda bay.

  • What the hell was the noise at 1:11 ???

  • I think you all need to grow up! She is obviously a Newfoundlander. If you lived in Newfoundland you would know that the newfie accent will vary from coast to coast. I myself am from Newfoundland and I sound much like her. She can't be any older than 15 and you are all criticizing here for showing pride in her home land. I think she is as cute as a button so everybody fuck off : )

  • @HilaryB30 Right on b'y.

  • @HilaryB30 Right on! I'm from N.B, but have lived in N.S, P.E.I and spent much time in NFLD. She's sweet as can be and rightly proud of her heritage. If you have nothing positive to say then just ignore the videos and fuck off back into your little narrow minded world. No need to comment - we won't miss ya a bit.

Newfoundlanders are some of the kindest, most welcoming and most hospitable people anywhere. Obviously you've never experienced Newfounld kindness and hospitality

  • you don't even say dem rightt.., don't talk about the slang we got unless you can do it right, and as for this you cant.. born and raised in newfoundland right on the south coast, represent

  • hows it getting on cocky?

  • Jesus could you find any bigger fucking glasses you blind hoe

  • @TheRosettaStoned Why is it when people have nothing intelligent to say they resort to name calling on someone's appearance?

  • @jacobsmom001 you OBVIOUSLY have nothing intelligent to say either......

  • 1. pissquick 4 up, 4 down

    n.

    1. Someone who must urinate with alarming frequency after consuming only a modest amount of beer or other alcoholic beverage.

  • @2003ls she isn't from newfoundland...she sounds like a mainlander....

  • @TheGhostScorpion your prob right, she should know the newfie slang not read it of her ipod, i knows i do!

  • nice eyes

  • Pissquicks are (or originated from) rubber boots cut down so it's more of a runner so it's easier and quicker to slip on

The reason they did this is because when there was no running water in Newfoundland they had little outhouses in their yard, so for when they had to pee/piss they had something quick and easy to slip on their feet, hence pissquicks

My pop told me that a few years back when I went down home to visit, good ol' Newfoundland. Entertaining place it is, in many ways!

  • Sexiest Newfie ive seen -3

  • @DUBC5507 guess you haven't seen me then ;)

  • im from newfoundland too<3 loves it here byy! :)

  • The lingo thing=We got to keep our language going or we will loose it

Duckish=The time when the sun is just going down

Piss quicks=Anything you can haul on your feet to go take a piss (I think, I heard my pop say it once but I can't remember the exact definition)

    Stun as me arse=Your stupi

Mauzy= I think its a combination of muggy and foggy

    Nippers= mosquitoes

Go on wit cha=don't believe someone

Lard jumpin die ins= holy shit!!

    Proper ting by'=right thing

Gone right out of her=usully means drunk

Were a state=either drunk as fuck, or a complete mess

    Stun as me arse=Your stupid

    Rest are in another comment

  • OMG, I'M NEWFIE MYSELF AND THESE JUST CRACKED ME UP (:

" STAY WHERES YA TO TILL I COMES WHERE YOU AT " MY FAVE (:

  • i'm living in newfoundland, and i happen to be from here, more specific, the south coast of newfoundland, and i dont even say half of this stuff....

  • Why is everyone saying she's not a newfoundlander? Everything she's saying is dead on.

  • is there even any lenses on your stupid hipster glasses?

  • @frizzybob

Hahahaha I was thinking the same thing

  • nippers = bugs or mosquitoes

go'on witcha = like the "get out of here" expression

proper ting b'y = the right thing to do

gone right out of er = drunk or under some sort of influence, or asleep

we was a state = we were hammered drunk

    duckish = twilight

piss quicks = slipper to put on to go out and take a leak

  • @stEpHiEmILs First of all, what exactly would I have to gain from lying about my identity? If I was going to lie I would have least said I was Brad Pitt's lovechild or something. And second of all, people from different parts of NL have different accents, and younger people from NL have different accents than younger people from NL. So all and all, what you said really doesnt make any sense.

  • @yousay321

You're fuckin' hawt...do you like black dudes?

  • I know your not from Newfoundland because my Uncle is from there and he was born and raised there, and you guys sound nothing alike!! So just stop lying about your identity. :L

  • The nippers are some thick tonight.... There are lots of misquitos out tonight.

Go On wit cha..... Yaaaa right! I dont believe it.

Lard Jumpin Die ins..... Holy crap!

Proper ting b'y....... Thats the right thing to do.

Gone right out of er..... Possibly, Gone nuts or drunk, ? lol

Yiiiis mumble mulble state..... Yes its a mess maybe? lol

  • Talamh an Eisc, ABU

  • Can't understand the what you're saying on 6:32 though :'(

May want to write that down? =)

  • Also:

piss quicks = boots you put on to go outside an take a piss

    duckish = dusk

    mozzy = foggy/miserable weather

mozzy day = foggy, overcast day

  • Alright, newfthie girlth. Here are some random guesses:

first one = mosquitos are biting too much

    second one = bs

third one = not really any true meaning (kinda "surprised" comment I guess)

proper ting = goddamn proper thing (hard to translate when used in everyday language)

gone right out of her = broken

example; the bumper fell off my car = the ass is gone right out of her

we was a state = we were not at our best =p

stunned as me arse = you're stupid (?)

  • I hate to say this, newfie time is not a time zone. A half hour later? seriously. Also, if someont does not know what molases is like , they have no brain. I like that saying though.

  • @randomheartofgold It's called Newfoundland Standard/Daylight Time.

  • I hate to say this, newfie time is not a time zone. A half hour later? seriously. Also, if someont does not know what molases is like , they have no brain. I like that saying though.

  • you forgot they add s on the end of nouns like wal-martS lol

  • she not a newfie by, she a mainlander

  • @TheGhostScorpion ahah were you form by,

  • @TheGhostScorpion I don't think she is either. My mom is from there, and she doesn't sound newfie at all...

  • I'm a newfie!

  • i'm from BC, and it's so cool that we are almost like totally different countries, but that's the beauty of Canada, eh?

  • @trashpop Thanks! :). And I think I would miss it very very much if I left too

  • When I was living in newfoundland the biggest ones i noticed were like.."What a sin!" and how EVERYONE calls you "my love/lover" "my duckie" "old trout"

Awesome video :) LOVE & miss goofie newfie land.

  • newfies rock

  • theres lots of misquitos out tonight, keep talking, like lord geezus, almost like you doing to the right thing kinda lol, i used to know that one, but i forget, .... , your as dumb as my ass, uhm.. i think i got some of those kind of right, im from ontario by the way. pretty good for a trontonian?

  • @ACEstudios1 Nope! I live in central

  • @yousay321 You sound a lot like my cousin. I think I know what area you're from :)

I'm from Newfoundland too, from not too far from where you're from, if you're from where I think you're from. But my family moved to Ontario when I was 10. I still remember a lot of newfie slang, because whenever I talk to my family who still live in Newfoundland, they talk like that.

Do you know what immits are? Hehe. (not sure if I spelled that right, but it's not a real word anyway. It's slang).

  • What part of nl do you live in!st.Johns?

  • @wait4itandwait4it Thanks so much! :)

  • What a cutie and the slang is fun. Thanks.

  • you forgot warsh which is wash

  • You do not sound like you're from Newfoundland............

  • @jessika212121 And what is that supposed to sound like -raises eyebrow- -Newfoundlander-

  • "We gotta keep the lingo, she's easy to lose out there" means that it is up to us to keep our culture and the way we speak alive. It is often easy to lose it when we move on with our lives, especially if we move to other provinces or countries.... Not sure if this was already answered or not...lol.

  • @jdsevigny Thank you so much! I'm glad you liked my video, and glad you liked your first visit to Newfoundland. I hope you come back for many more!

  • @ownedpatrol Agreed <3

  • 1:09 = someone getting raped?

  • Abibiti badatapa :)

  • I just got back from my first visit to Newfoundland (LOVED it), and found your video today. Thank you so much for doing this! I think I just got ten times the amount of insight into your lovely culture as I did from a week of touring! Don't underestimate the quality of what you have done here. It's wonderful! Thanks so much!

  • I absolitely love Newfoundland, It's so beautiful :)

  • Nippers are Mosquitoes <3 hahh

  • the nippers are out thick tonight - there are a lot of micitose out tonight

  • @MissMagicalMary Awh, you're such a doll :). And that guy doesn't bother me, people like that are rediculous haha. But I live pretty close to Phillip's Head actually! Only a short drive :D

  • Hey:) You're pretty:) My dad's from Newfoundland. Born in St.John's raised in St.Phillips. I visited there a couple years back, beautiful place<3 I plan on moving there when I turn 18. Where abouts are you from? And don't mind "darylghghgh" he's the one making Newfie's look stupid. I doubt he was born there, 'cause Newfies are the nicest people I have ever met.

  • @darylghghgh Oh am I now? I am quite aware of the different accents across the island. I am also quite aware that our common slang throughout the island is not "stupid" and newfies and nowhere near stupid. Pointing out some very common slang phrases in this video is not going to make newfies look stupid. The way a person talks does not reflect their intelligence.

  • STUPID BITCH, EVERY part of newfoundland, got different accents , and im from newfoundland and i dont use them stpids slangs, your making newfies look stpid , your fucking bubble face blond

  • what ya doin bi

  • YES MY SON, ITS COLD OUT IN DA BOAT WITOUT UR COAT SURE. LORD TUNDERIN MOSES. COLD NUFF TO FREEZ DA BALLS OFF A BRASS MONKEY DOWN ERE DENITE MAID.

  • And never heard "duckish" but i've heard " yes me ducky' (agreeing with someone)

  • lol i was born in NFLD, moved when i was 10, but i remember my parents would randomly take us to someones house without calling them, Seems kinda weird now living in ottawa Ontario lol

  • all these newfie videos are sounding more and more like some aspects of some southern dialects..so interesting

  • @newfoundlandSSG Yeah, I've heard that one before

  • haha from central looks familar like from avalon... but i dont kno n also what about da saying ur as foolish as a capelin haha ratsy heard that more than once i figured 1 of these newfie slang vids had it on it

  • @howardlomond nope, from central. But accents are different all over the island

  • you must be from st' john's my dear cause your accent is minimal compared to us on the west coast.

  • @2010MillerSummer Me too! :D

  • ahah newfie accent is so funny like im from nova scotia and we kinda talk the same but a little bit different like its not as strong aha

  • @NitroxKae yeah, I'm from NFLD.

  • Comment removed

  • Yes By' Are You From Nfld??

I dunno about that one How'd I do? I'm not newfie but most my family is so I learn some stuff here and there from them
  • hahaha my mom says the molasses one all the time..(she's newfie)

  • I grew up in Blanc-Sablon, eastern quebec. And I moved now to Ottawa, gotta say I miss my old newfie talk :(

    Thanks for this nostalgia !

  • @braceyourselfkid They make toutons!?!? Oh my, I wish my NL Studies class made toutons <3

  • waddaya at bys, havin a time?

Never heard of the last few. If I guessed, pissquicks sounds like someone pissed in your nesquick, though that's not likely to be what it actually means xD

Anyway, NL studies sounds pretty dece, I haven't really known what it was about (other than sometimes they'd make toutons in the morning at my school) but, learning newfie slang? I might have to try to get into that next year ahah

  • @justinofthenorth Really? That's pretty cool. Mainlanders always get a kick out of our expressions, haha. You'll be using all of them now the once :D

  • Awesome! Just moved here form the mainland and am loving learning the expressions. My favourite is "What a sin!" (Mainlanders don't say it)

  • Oh wow. The inflections throw me off almost as much as the phrases. Sounds like a weird mix of Irish/English/Canadian/American/Australian.

Here's a very accurate example of the (women's) Texas accent: watch?v=W3GBOqWNcNg Don't listen to what anyone else says. That's accurate.

  • It cool to learn other accents Newfie almost in a sense sounds like southern US accent or Appalachian accent but Just How certain ways or words of saying it sounds different but in sense

  • @Orangitude thanks! And I live in Central

  • Hey! I likes your videos. Where in newfoundland do you live? I live in Flatrock, which is next to Torbay, ...which is next to St Johns.

  • @KassieLiveeStarzz not bad, not bad!

  • the nippers are some tick t'night, is its some shockin cold outside.

go on witcha now, means go run along.

  • @catman63879 why thank you :)

  • youve got some really pretty blue eyes

  • @tomgibo because they're not real. Just a pair of sunglasses frames that I found on the ground and wear just for fun.

  • Erm, why don't your glasses have glass?

  • I am from Eastern Ontario, and here we have a ton of maritimers that come here to visit and such. I am in love with the Newf accent, and honestly, I am working on coming out there next summer for work. :)

  • The sayings we have that you are protraying are right but your not explaining them very good.

Hows ya gettin on by' is How are you today?

    Good try though me ducky.

  • Hey yousay321, did you get my upload? it's not showing if you did...

I just moved to NL and everytime I go out, I keep eavesdropping in people's conversations just to hear that accent!! lol Absolutely incredible!!!! I am originally from the caribbean and we do have our own lingo as well.... and I gotto say, our "lingos" do have lots in common... Very very interesting!! Would it be possible for you to upload another video of Newfoundland's lingo? I sure would appreciate it! (Would make eaavesdropping more fun!)

  • yayy newfiess say whaaa

  • @kaitlinalana You got 'em all right :D! I was told pissquicks were short rubbers for going out to the outhouse, but it's all different where ever you go. What part of the island are you from anyway?

  • piss quick - i always knew it as when you had to piss your pants.

duckish - when it starts to get a bit dark out

... probably helps that im a newfie myself :)

  • nippers some thick tonight - lots of mosquitoes
