Why is everyone saying she's not a Newfie? The younger generations don't usually have as strong accents as older people, and Newfie accents vary from area to area. The people from, say, the west coast sound different than someone from people in St. John's. She could be like me, from central Newfoundland. We don't have super strong accents, but they're there.

And you guys have a very bad reputation, no one likes you, like i isad to the rest of Canada you are known as the biggest pathological liars.St. john's was fucking dirty with dog shit all over the place
Us newfs totally do say these things. However, you didn't explain them very well! Which is sad because i bet there actually are people who heard about NL slang and want to laugh at us for it. I love when people laugh at newfies and us newfs are just like "AHAH EH BY WHA." We're great.
Newfoundland obviously doesn't have schools you guys sound like fucking idiots and are known to the rest of Canada as the biggest liars and hypocrites.
I love hearing all of this. I was born in the states & live in Florida, but the family's from Port Union & St. John's & I speak Newfinese still (accent included). My friends love it! It drives them nuts though when they hear me talking to a mate from Belfast. He talks VERY fast & they can't keep up, but we're good. Got one for ya. "By Christ! Ya gotta good haul there, bye!" -What I used to hear when the paycheck was a nice bit of change. Stay warm. :)
I think you all need to grow up! She is obviously a Newfoundlander. If you lived in Newfoundland you would know that the newfie accent will vary from coast to coast. I myself am from Newfoundland and I sound much like her. She can't be any older than 15 and you are all criticizing here for showing pride in her home land. @HilaryB30 Right on! I'm from N.B, but have lived in N.S, P.E.I and spent much time in NFLD. Newfoundlanders are some of the kindest, most welcoming and most hospitable people anywhere. Obviously you've never experienced Newfounld kindness and hospitality

@MissMagicalMary Awh, you're such a doll :). And that guy doesn't bother me, people like that are rediculous haha. But I live pretty close to Phillip's Head actually! Only a short drive :D
Hey:) You're pretty:) My dad's from Newfoundland. Born in St.John's raised in St.Phillips. I visited there a couple years back, beautiful place<3 I plan on moving there when I turn 18. Where abouts are you from? And don't mind "darylghghgh" he's the one making Newfie's look stupid. I doubt he was born there, 'cause Newfies are the nicest people I have ever met.
@darylghghgh Oh am I now? I am quite aware of the different accents across the island. I am also quite aware that our common slang throughout the island is not "stupid" and newfies and nowhere near stupid. Pointing out some very common slang phrases in this video is not going to make newfies look stupid. The way a person talks does not reflect their intelligence.
STUPID BITCH, EVERY part of newfoundland, got different accents , and im from newfoundland and i dont use them stpids slangs, your making newfies look stpid , your fucking bubble face blond
lol i was born in NFLD, moved when i was 10, but i remember my parents would randomly take us to someones house without calling them, Seems kinda weird now living in ottawa Ontario lol
haha from central looks familar like from avalon... but i dont kno n also what about da saying ur as foolish as a capelin haha ratsy heard that more than once i figured 1 of these newfie slang vids had it on it
Mosquitos are biting get going OR quit your yappin Oh my god Right thing/that's right She's crazy We were a mess You're dumb Its easy to lose your accent/slang on the mainland gotta pee real bad when its getting dark out mozzie... I dunno about that one How'd I do? I'm not newfie but most my family is so I learn some stuff here and there from them
Never heard of the last few. If I guessed, pissquicks sounds like someone pissed in your nesquick, though that's not likely to be what it actually means xD
Anyway, NL studies sounds pretty dece, I haven't really known what it was about (other than sometimes they'd make toutons in the morning at my school) but, learning newfie slang? I might have to try to get into that next year ahah
It cool to learn other accents Newfie almost in a sense sounds like southern US accent or Appalachian accent but Just How certain ways or words of saying it sounds different but in sense
I am from Eastern Ontario, and here we have a ton of maritimers that come here to visit and such. I am in love with the Newf accent, and honestly, I am working on coming out there next summer for work. :)
@yousay321 Thanks luv, I will upload a video blog of Trinidad's accent very soon... waiting for my webcam to get here!!! What part of the island are you? My hubby, daughter and I just moved to Marystown...
@lafarzia Wow, thank you very very very very much :). And if you look at the comments, kaitlinalana did a fabulous job listing them all out if you want to know the answers.
@yousay321 oohhh thanks I didnt notice her comment... I just moved to NL and everytime I go out, I keep eavesdropping in people's conversations just to hear that accent!! lol Absolutely incredible!!!! I am originally from the caribbean and we do have our own lingo as well.... and I gotto say, our "lingos" do have lots in common... Very very interesting!! Would it be possible for you to upload another video of Newfoundland's lingo? I sure would appreciate it! (Would make eaavesdropping more fun!)
this was such an informative video i dont mind the pauses! i have NO CLUE what any of those words and phrases mean omg!!! but i would like to find out.. anyway, thank you so much for this upload.
YEA YEA love newfies....they seriously are the fruit of our country...anyone canadian who considers him self or her self a drinker or partyer will b put to shame by a newfie...not to mention they straight up have the best expressions of all time!!!!
@kaitlinalana You got 'em all right :D! I was told pissquicks were short rubbers for going out to the outhouse, but it's all different where ever you go. What part of the island are you from anyway?
@banjcyco HAHAHA you weren't jokin' when you said I'd get a laugh out of them. I'm dying here. Made my day haha. And I can't said I know any of the Tapper folk, doesn't ring a bell to me :/

@braceyourselfkid They make toutons!?!? Oh my, I wish my NL Studies class made toutons <3
yousay321 11 months ago
waddaya at bys, havin a time?
Never heard of the last few. If I guessed, pissquicks sounds like someone pissed in your nesquick, though that's not likely to be what it actually means xD
Anyway, NL studies sounds pretty dece, I haven't really known what it was about (other than sometimes they'd make toutons in the morning at my school) but, learning newfie slang? I might have to try to get into that next year ahah
braceyourselfkid 11 months ago
@justinofthenorth Really? That's pretty cool. Mainlanders always get a kick out of our expressions, haha. You'll be using all of them now the once :D
yousay321 11 months ago
Awesome! Just moved here form the mainland and am loving learning the expressions. My favourite is "What a sin!" (Mainlanders don't say it)
justineofthenorth 11 months ago
Oh wow. The inflections throw me off almost as much as the phrases. Sounds like a weird mix of Irish/English/Canadian/American/Australian.
Here's a very accurate example of the (women's) Texas accent: watch?v=W3GBOqWNcNg Don't listen to what anyone else says. That's accurate.
mistaspot1 11 months ago
It cool to learn other accents Newfie almost in a sense sounds like southern US accent or Appalachian accent but Just How certain ways or words of saying it sounds different but in sense

I am from Eastern Ontario, and here we have a ton of maritimers that come here to visit and such. I am in love with the Newf accent, and honestly, I am working on coming out there next summer for work. :)
