  • NORTH KOREA IS BEST KOREA !!!

  • why dont the yanks just nuke the whole fucking charade and be done with it. fucking crazy opressive assholes

  • You failed to mention that nearly all the civilian deaths were caused by US bombing. The US genocidists dropped more bombs on Korea than they did in all of WW2.

  • @monkeetime

And why didn't you make this video in your own language? Is it not good enough for you? Or do you think that English speakers are stupid enough and bigoted enough to actually appreciate your pathetic efforts?

  • @monkeetime

I imagine your whole life is a "mentally retarded religious experience," so why would visiting the DPRK be any different. I doubt if you were in Guantanamo, but if you are ever sent there, I will finally say the Americans have done something good for the world.

  • "Of all the places I have been to, North Korea has to be, by far, the most mockable, ridiculous and least legitimate puss-filled zit, and a slap-in-the-face of human decency" - you're such a wordsmith Em...LOL

  • The stark contrast between a conquered nation and a liberated nation can be seen in this video.

  • Jeezus... I would be paranoid beyond belief if I had to give up my passport like you guys did at 10:20.

  • Monkeetime - you can't hide from us, we know who you are - you live in Dublin and play the guitar for that band U2.

  • Well done so far. And kudos for pointing out "mentally retarded religious experience". Obviously, NK is among the most religious countries in the world. Systems like this prey on one of the darker side of the human condition: desire to obey authority.

It's always disturbing yet strangely intriguing to see how far communities and individuals are willing to go when it comes to obedience. I'm from Germany and live in Latvia (ex soviet country).

How lucky I am that the totalitarian BS is on ice.

  • That's cool, you went backpacking again with the Swedish guy, that's cool.

  • The whole series was a really nice piece of work but I would comment that NK is not the only place that talks about American Imperialism and takes food aid - I am not sure why the US is quite so desperate to force food aid on people who actively try to refuse it, (in some cases) but it has been the same since the Green revolution (that was about as helpful as GMO) Getting uptight about it is a bit futile (otherwise you are clearly very smart and fun)

  • @cattyerde I just wanted to avoid making a monotonous video about nothing... A stance, whether popular, or not, will entertain.

  • @cattyerde "D"PRK is actually constantly demanding the food aid, or it threatens to start a war. But they report this differently to their own people - the government has often stated that the USAID bags are "tribute" given to North Korea by frightened americans. It just all comical, really.

  • @monkeetime bravado is always fun I must go and perve at your tokyo vids

  • @cattyerde the US and the UN usually only give food aid to countries who request such aid.

  • @nonamebrand0 Sorry but that is frankly nonsense. I have been writing about it for over a year

  • I found it funny that in the introduction comments the authors say that "instead of communist they were visiting....", so they probably believe that communist is good, they are not just in the right place for it...what a delusion!!!

  • @CubanodePlacetas No. I don't think communism is good. It is unrealistic, given the human tendency to be selfish, when Communism depends on altruism and sharing. BUT whatever Communism is or isn't, North Korea has nothing to do with it. North Korea is a crazy theocracy, but since it was built with the assistance of the Soviets, it was masquerading as "communist". In fact, in the last few years, ALL mention of Communism has been dropped, and "D"PRK is all about homegrown Juche now.

  • The Great & Dear leader seem very much into the ideas of Dr. Freud regarding size.

  • The Yanggakdo hotel is supposed to be this grand luxury complex but to me it just looks so........... 80s & kitschy.

Sort of thing you would imagine in East Berlin in 1982.

Sorry to sound so pedantic & materialistic (I'm not normally like this I promise!) but I just can't believe places like this still exist.

To my generation (born in mid 80s) NK looks like a living & breathing open history book.

  • Hahaha...to watch that shit for 16hrs was funny.

  • Thanks to fucking Stalin and Mao, now the world has two divided Korea. Stalin and Mao, you fucking cheebye. May your descendent suffer for your stupid idea of your "communism" which is actually your stupid fucking pleasure. Thats why I fucking hate communist. FUCK YOU COMMUNIST.

  • Japan has apologized, MANY times. wikipedia(DOT)org/wiki/List_of_war_apology_statements_issued_by_Japan

  • Very funny, you did a great job.

  • So this video shows G. W. Bush in the same category as the dictators. Ok, so what about our Loving, Dear Leader, Obama?

  • @soco13466 At the time this was posted, I had a 15 minute time limit per video, so I couldn't include all "dear leaders"...

  • @soco13466 It will be dear when Obama leaves office ;>)

  • This is all useless editorializing which panders to and plays upon existing prejudices. Thumbs down

  • @hep48 You have thumbs???

  • @monkeetime they aren't opposable

  • @hep48 Please, elaborate....

  • @hep48 So what you mean is that North Korea is not bad after all, it is just being made look bad by these young people's comments? Prejudices, eh? Go a live there yourself or just go to Cuba, you will love it!

  • was the bus right hand steering like in the UK?

  • I'm planning this trip in April, so a good preview. Nicely done, though that hair does reduce your credibility to sneer somewhat. I think you'd benefit from a Juche crop.

  • Great fun; wonderful combination of satire and journalism.

    I'd love to visit NK.

  • @felsner1 WHY?!?!

  • this documentary is expertly done. great work.

  • 01:01 I'm just in this for a minute and I hope this will be FINALLY a report from that country that will suit my needs.

No propaganda, neither from US nor from DPRK. My hopes are high...don't disappoint me dudes!!

  • That look like Kim Jong Un on timeline 1:39.

  • @Trunks800 It's clear they are styling the young Kim after grandpa because there is nothing better to legitimize him.

  • 2:50 so pruttttyyyy =))) lol

  • it's sad how one man can influence a whole damn country, totally isolate it from the world, take ppl's mentality back to stone age, make them worship him and mourn over him even though he never gave them a chance to grow as individuals,to develop and never made the country progress or anything,i mean russia is their neighbour and they still don't know that the soviet union fell apart

  • @donTcALlmyNamEmONstA I take it you havent heard of a legend known as Jesus. And that has held people down for 2000 years. Nothing new, different legend, same bullshit.

  • @johntrevy lol still you can't compare this dictator and jesus

  • @donTcALlmyNamEmONstA you can totally compare

  • I'm just trying to get a better understanding of this mad country, thank you for these videos. :)

  • This is excellent work and I look forward to watching the entire series covering your DPRK trip. If I may, I had 2 questions:

    - Were you at all concerned that your hotel room was bugged with hidden microphones or cameras? When you have a regime that is not subject to any legal restrictions, which does not respect personal privacy, and which has a paranoid suspicion of foreigners, it is not an unrealistic concern.

    - How much did the hotel cost?

  • How much did you pay in total for the trip?

  • Yanggakdo = Ram's Horn Island

  • 12 North Koreans have the internet.

  • @ZiggySA Haaaaa!! Nice...

  • wondering why they won't let americans in north korea anymore?

    because of propaganda like this;

    death to america!!!

  • @ryanbeev Yes, thank you Mr. Bin Laden. Neither myself nor Erik are Americans. I guess anytime anybody does anything, it will be "Death to America". Your IQ score apparently has a decimal point between the two digits...

  • @ryanbeev Death to communism, Im from serbia, I ought to know.

  • @ZIYR0 Yeah, it worked out real good for Serbia after Yugoslavia fell lol. You must be born in USA lol

  • @hep48 K, go to serbia and say its a good place to live.

  • Great video!!! This should go up on the travel channel, PBS, etc.

  • @JChau007 Please send them a message...

  • That Bathroom reminds me of Saw

  • Dude this is amazing. Thank you for documenting this so well. It's terrifying footage.

  • @monkeetime You are hilarious and your series of videos about the DPRK are awesome. Thank you for providing this entertaining and shocking window into the craziness that is North Korea.

  • this is simply amazing. my sincere congratulations for having the guts to do it and showing the world mostly all about it. thanks from Brasil.

  • Thank you for the upload. With the recent death of Kim Jong il my interest in North Korea is back again.

  • How did you get the visa and where r u from?

  • Дебилы в стране идиотов.

  • looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool half way through you would be hoping for a crash

  • @desmond1906 Or just skip the whole thing and search for "Fred".

  • Glad I found this video, your style of commentary makes the footage much more fun to watch.

  • @monkeetime Wait... were you even allowed to film??

  • @RickyPrescott No... If we said that was our intent, they wouldn't give us visas. It was for the most part covertly shot while pretending to be taking photos.

  • @monkeetime Nice video btw.

  • who's more annoying? White dreads? or anyone else in this "doc" (?) ?

  • Comment removed

  • the best thing I like is no bad traffic at all.

  • its seems kim jong was il :P

  • THUMBS UP IF YOU ARE HAPPY THAT KIM JONG IL IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @monkeetime Christmas came early this year :D

  • @MultiDancevideo Giggiddy!!!!!

  • @monkeetime

You can be happy about it, but I doubt it'll change anything. N-K will just use this opportunity to hold more synchronised dancing events celebrating the great leaders life, and will no doubt show foreign statesmen crying over the death of their great example ;)

  • @monkeetime Dear comrade kim jong il is now DEAD comrade kim jong il.

  • @monkeetime I've reported this comment to North Korea.

  • @BannedUfos And Ive reported north korea to YOUR FACE!!!

  • @ZIYR0 I've reported North Korea to your momma's ass.

  • @BannedUfos That was a joke dude chill.

  • Soldiers don't even want to be there and the three reasons why no-one can leave is one the loyalists are on you like a fly to poop 24/7 the DMZ has an electric fence and millions of mines and three China will "re-patriotise" "escapees". If you manage to get through China then you have to either live in Mongolia or travel thousands of miles to another nation.

  • The same applies to the military if they speak out and everyone except for the loyalists would like to leave but the Government is afraid they 1 will not come back or might accidentally prove that the Propaganda is a sack of shit. One story is when a famous North Korean Pianist (might be a new word for you) brought a song not centered around the North Korean Goverment and playyed it in a bar where Loyalists quickly told him to not play it and he, soon after that left korea for good.

  • @beritbe "Spellcheck" might be a new word for you...

  • The Russians weren't in the Korean war and you believe they were that makes you an idiot so call us dumb you didn't look any actual things up and you continue to call everyone in there insane when they are mad with fear because the Well-fed government employees (Loyalists who have been completely brainwashed) get the underfed military to place you and your entire family in a concentratoin camp if you spoke out or just kill you.

  • @beritbe The Soviets provided most of the weaponry. Does that not make them involved in the PROXY war?

  • @beritbe Where do you think the guns the North Koreans were using to fight the South Koreans and Americans came from? They certainly didn't make them. They came from the Soviets!

  • @miamcu Agreed. Petulant, callow, and definitely in the Cluster B description of personalities, but erring towards Histrionic. This isn't a travelogue, this is a man-child running amok. The 'Head's-Up' is in the complementarity of the behaviour; it induces its opposite, and its opposite can best be described as Parental in its scope.

  • @miamcu "That's... like... your opinion... DUUUUUDE...!"

  • The reporter is obviously not American. I take him for Dutch.

  • Truly an addictive series of videos! Thanks so much!

  • "Instead of communism" - Nope. That's communism.

  • oh how funny. an american makes fun of north korea. how ironic.

  • @Evilfisher American?

  • @monkeetime northamerican* ? :D

  • Great job, I have seen other stuff about North Korea, but yours is far the most entertaining. North Korea is weird, and the only way that we can see this country is through satire and ridicule.

  • hey man, your vids are funny

  • Now you can go where the people are one! Now you can go where they get things done! What you need my son... is a holiday in North Korea! (Its way too fucking hot in Cambodia anyway...)

  • Childish and mostly arrogant reporting (this video actually ALMOST makes me agree with the fact that north koreans dont like Americans). There are much better documentaries on North Korea out there, check 'welcome to North Korea' for some real journalism.

  • @floran1980 You want journalism, log into BBC. This is Monkeetime.

  • @monkeetime I used to be a long haired monkee jerking penis puffer like U. Then, I got shot in the knee with an arrow and found the Adult Jesus on the BBC

  • @monkeetime LOL for "journalism". That's as much journalism as Monkeetime. While I despise the North Korean regime I generally think that such independent videos are slightly more reliable then the regular media. The BBC is nothing but propaganda.

  • o hell no! i cant live there

  • wow where's that big stick ppl have up their asses in this vid coming from?

awesome vid w/ great tongue-in-cheek intelligent humor! I want to see yall go back to more of China's cities w/ your spiffy new HD cam :)

  • Guys, the humour in these video's is really offensive to me....hahahahahahahahahahahaha great job, said it as it was, by far the best DPRK documentary, any more in the pipeline, Iran? The EU??? haha

    Thanks,

    William, England

  • Bravo monkeetime! This is one of the best videos I've seen on North Korea. Your comments and opinions are well researched. The humor totally reflects the irony of such an absurd country. Keep up the good work amigo!

  • @lazl300 Muchos thankyous!

  • Interesting vid but you speak too fast and hectically. Same way the underlaid music.

  • The way you approached this was very immature. Your humor and commentary are very juvenille, more appropriate for middle-school.

  • @Stillwater900 Thank you for watching and commenting!

  • @monkeetime "monkeetime" ??? How childish is that? I remember the whole "monkey" thing was funny when I was in junior high, but you're probably in your thirties. Seriously though, you do come off as being childish. Might want to look into that.

  • @Stillwater900 Thank you for watching and commenting!

  • Don't think its fair you say its due to his massive ego. Kim Il Sung really was a soldier who managed to use gurrela tactics to such a succesful extent the Japanese put a bounty on his head. This isn't fake made up north korean history, so he actually has a reason to be an egotist. Plus, you have to give credit where its due, even when he's a nut. He did sign the armistice while the south refused(their current leader at the time was a nut who did more damage than good).

  • @666NedFlanders The stories of his heroism were greatly exaggerated and massaged by the Soviets who needed "their man". I have to admit, I dont know the details of the other guy in the armistice story, but whatever it is, I have generally negative feelings about all "great leaders". Part 13 conclusion explains more...

  • Actually, the name hermit kingdom predates the split at the 38th paralell. >> Getting a little annoyed at constantly hearing that people assume it came after the split.

  • @666NedFlanders If you watch the video again you will see that at :59 there is an article clip from 1911 mentioning the Hermit Kingdom. Stop being little annoyed if you are missing little details.

  • @monkeetime I heard the clip, and the clip is wrong. The term hermit kingdom pre-dates kim sung il's birth. In fact, korea was still a monarchy when the phrase was first used. It was used because the korean monarchy fought off westerners who continued to try to invade them as they have an important strategic place. It came to the point were christians were masacared by order of the king. These actions lead to it being named the hermit kingdom, which predate the split by over 100 years.

  • "Hermit Kingdom" is an old phrase that has been applied to North Korea, but is not coined persay from the actions of DPRK, but instead by radical monarchy who realized that the invasion of westerners who were colonizing china vastly weakened what korea viewed to be a great nation. Up to that point in history, korea enjoyed being a part of chines sphere of influence. As it repelled westerners during this period when japan and china were colonized, it was THEN called the hermit kingdom.

  • @666NedFlanders Just...stop...commenting... Obviously you dont understand English, and are just wasting my valuable time that I could spent on watching a clip of a dog licking its nuts. Seriously, man...

  • Very nice documentary!

  • Pyongyang looks like Detroit.

  • @FLICKtheUSA Detroit has cars, though...

  • Nicely done...just one question...how could you shoot video in NK? I thought they take away your camera and recorder when you land!

  • @mkao1981 Shot on point-and-shoot digicams, so it usually looked like we were simply taking photos of nothing... :-)

  • @mkao1981 They don't allow people to use high end lenses either.

  • whats the song u used during the scene when u showed us the triumphal arch??? the one that sounds like a waltz?

  • @TheKero12345 That was some random anthem from a North Korean karaoke dvd... NOoooooo idea...

  • A very nice nice documentation, thank you very much !

  • Question: in other documentaries, when other foreigners stay in the Yanggakdo or the other hotel in Pyongyang, were you warned that "the rooms would be bugged, and that luggage and trash cans would be carefully scrutinized"? It seems like the paranoia you showed on part 11 seemed to put that "bugged" portion a bit too far... :p

  • Very moving, very inspiring, straight on-your-face video that really puts this documentary as one of my most favorite documentaries about the fucked up communist state. Your description about Juche, as well as video proofs from other documentaries, presents the reasons why N Korea should be dissolved immediately, as well as letting the helpless people to finally wake up to the modern world. I really love this documentary, I hope you make even more. God Bless N Korea!

  • @wishfulanthony Thank you! Please tell your friends! :-)

  • I disagree about Leninland. Stalinland more likely, because Stalinism is at the very core of what NK regime stands for.

  • whats the song thats playing in the backround ???

  • May I ask you about your accent?

  • What year did he make this excellent filming in DPRK??

  • @ohmmeters Filmed in 2010.

  • @monkeetime

    Thank you very much :)

  • @ohmmeters Always dressed to impress - The Dear Leader General Kim Jong Il gives field guidance to the construction of the Kumsusan Memorial Palace on the final stage

  • @joaquinveyron

Yeah, the dear leader is over the edge the top technician and everything else abova all people in DPRK.. I think they are lucky to have him guding all the tough stages to be done LOL.

  • lol these atheist states are crazy.

  • Nice ! I go to see part 2, strange world here

  • 8:24

Shouldn't it be "Kim-Land"? I can tell you, as someone who has read Lenin's main works, that Lenin has nothing to do with anything in North Korea. Nothing to do with Juche, nothing to do with Songun, not nobody not nohow.

  • @neosoc Well, it is a reference to something people do know and can identify. Lenin started his "wonderland" in Russia, though in reality it was Stalin who pursued the celebrations of Lenin in order to legitimize himself. The drab appearance of Soviet Union is often described as Leninland or Stalinland, as opposed to Disneyland. The name "Kim-land" lacks the fun factor... As far as Lenin not having anything to do with DPRK - Lenin's followers - the Soviets - backed them for many decades.

  • @monkeetime Enh, I guess it has to do with differences in ideology. I'm one of those people who differentiates between "Leninism" and "Stalinism," if you catch my drift...

"Lenin-land" does admittedly sound more catchy than "Kim-land," though; at my university, we always joke about how our dormitories look like Eastern bloc apartment buildings, so I know what you mean ;) Great documentary, BTW.

  • fuckkk i was thinking of visiting here next summer, just to say i have been. but thanks for chronicling your trip, too be honest it doesnt look like a very enjoyable place

  • whats really sad is that kim jong and his inbred family n disciples would greatly benefit from a therapy of tegretol, lithium, thorazine n haldol to control bipolar psychotic breaks w reality and the paranoid schizophrenia which he must certainly exhibits to any 1st yr med student

  • 14:48 OMG SAMARA FROM THE RING IS BEHIND THE DOOR AS HE LEAVES WTF??? XD

  • Comment removed

  • Very interesting and well-made, although I wish the voice-over would be more calm and better equalized.

  • Didn´t they recognize u were filming them? I mean, weren´t there cameras to spy on the tourists so they should have seen on their tapes that u were taping? LOL

  • North Korea, China, Russia, Iran, Pakistan and a whole lot of other non red neck countries are so united. Together these nations could wipe out the US, Europe and not forgetting those dirty people of Israel. So `monkeetime´, enjoy youe little handjob existance while you can, asswipes like you will dry up.

  • Great Job! What kind of camera did you use?

  • 01:48

China is not COMMUNIST anymore.. mr.COMMENTATOR..

China is now SOCIALIST open FREE MARKET system

even if they have a Communist Party does not make them Commies

    You wrong man! >=-0

  • @technical010

China is communist politically. No free votes for people. No freedom to gather to protest. No freedom of the press. No freedom of Religion.

  • @wwotin

But in order for you to call a country COMMUNIST.. you don't just based on their POLITICS

Because COMMUNISM is basically an ECONOMIC system

where all means of production, consumption and distribution of goods will be controlled

by the masses.. (which never happened at all)

Dictatorship is rather how COMMUNISM is implemented... due to the fact

that it is quite impossible to do.. since human beings are incapable of robotic discipline

    and perfection

  • @technical010

Nope, you are wrong. Have a nice day being so stupid.

  • @wwotin

How?? COMMUNISM was established by means of POLITICS..

Nobody calls China a COMMUNIST.. only idiots like you do.. Even CHINA does not call itself

    Communist..

I Say .. HAVE A NICE DAY??.. sorry but its NIGHT TIME in my location

My day is over.. and you are damn IDIOT

  • hey is it true that foreign travelers are always escorted by goverment personel?

  • Your commentary is amazingly good. I love this, can I purchase a dvd of this?
