  • Man, I was so SO SO into this song when it first came out. It's like Prism, Rush and Toto put in a blender. But I liked On The Loose even more.

  • Excellent song!!!!!Canadian rock rules......

  • This song RULES

  • Love SAGA! And STRANGE ADVANCE, and KLAATU !!! Awesome Canadian Prog Rock!

  • I just went back to some of the best memories ever...frickin Saga rocks man, Thanks! Thses guys never got the recognition they deserved, they were even better live than in the studio, and no freaking auto-tune BS!

  • after 30 years ... it still amazing ! like a time lapse. Thanks a lot for sharing

  • Oh my stars, did I just hear the "c" word? Loriann, I had the LP (remember those?), which I purchased at a Venture store, somewhere in St. Louis. Think it cost like 8 bucks or so. Of course, 8 dollaz was alot for a record, and I didn't quite have the luxury of cassettes yet--I did run reel-to-reel tape. Hell knows what happened to all my old LPs.

  • Wow, I recall being 15 or 16 when Worlds Apart came out. Approx a year later, Rush released Signals. Point being, I wore both albums out. Can't quite put my finger on it, but it seemed that Rush and Saga had something in common aurally. Oh wait, it must be a Canada thing!..LOL.

  • @dreamtheater9352000 - I was 15, and I wore this CASSETTE OUT for the next 15 years! LOL! It finally bit the dust~

  • @MegaJoker1967: I agree - but they were just a bit too musically intellectual to hit completely. On par with bands like Yes, EL&P etc. Luckily we are a few who dig SAGA!

  • These guys rock! I was in a cover band back in the '80s and we played this tune - I was the kbd (and key-foot) player, and learned the parts off the tape by ear. I just played what I heard - you could have knocked me over with a feather when I found out that Saga had two keyboard players!

The sound at 3:08 is, or sounds a lot like, a pipe organ stop called a Vox Humana, for what it's worth.

  • those were my surfing days

  • @godiamone Merry Xmas! Y'know, i belatedly thought there was a newcomer to a SAGA song and mistakenly hit the wrong "thumb" button. But still, I've noticed a tendency among the anti-societal or intellectually deprived to flatly make the statement that "Led Zeppelin sucks", "Queensryche sucks", "Tesla is bubble-gum pop" purely because he had to quit school because of his illiteracy, "high school graduates are pussies", he hates the world because of his low-aptitude, has to be contrary about all.

  • I wish I still had my old vinyl. This and "Heads or Tails" were two of my staples.

  • still think Saga is awesome....

  • OMG.. You guys can't be serious... or really really high.... SAGA is a great band.... and so is Triumph.. and Zebra, but you can't compare them to RUSH.. ...Rush was really into Concept Album sort of like Moody Blues... they didn't care if you liked it.. they played what THEY liked to play. By the time the 80's rolled around.. they just did the technical stuff to make a living....... I'm not saying who is better , I like them all a lot. "Let's not BICker and ARGue over who killed who!" -MP

  • @LoganIV2112 Agreed my friend it seems the generation of today will hear a few songs from some bands and almost want to trash that band,Rush and Triumph are Canadas two hard kegend bands that stuck it out especially Rush. They have the Proffesor on the drum kit Neil Peart is the best drummer.Triumph is another legendary band and the stage shows are awesome.Rush holds the record for there consistentcy as three members still hold it together lets not forget,Goddo,B.T.O.Max Webster.April wine, prism

  • to the 4 dislikes go home and stay there

  • Bands like Saga and Triumph just don't get their due. Though I like Triumph better because Rik Emmett is a guitar God ( look up their US festival 83 set - it's crazy tight) - so many great bands like Saga never got their respect. I loved Saga and hand all their all their early LP's.

  • i love this album...bought it in 81 and still have it.. love this song!

  • i missed the Rush Saga comparison, so i'll just chime in, Saga would technically destroy Rush...Ian Crichton is perhaps one of the godfathers of the technical guitar(yet no one has ever heard of him).Rush has Neil Peart, that's it, Rush was just mainstream popular.Saga were originators, for which no one will reference, perhaps the greatest band most have never heard about, and will never imitate

Opinion is one thing, but Saga is perhaps the biggest hidden gem in rock music history...fact

  • @ZOMBIELANDakaUSA-80's did it but they were comparing apple & oranges. Rush has & always will come out ahead over many Rock bands for their originality, use of classical riffs & jazzy style (like Zeplin,Yes,etc). Can anyone say this about Saga (which also 1 of my favorite band)? No way. Saga's originality is about their progressive (psychedelic if I may) style & electronics. As U C these 2 great bands are from different spectrums. Where would Muse be without Saga? Now compare them two or Triumph.

  • @Pashatube

That's why i say "technically destroy Rush", it's hard to think of any band that was a technically precise as Saga. Of course they aren't as varied as Rush(obviously not as popular), but i think Saga deserves mention for what they've done.

  • @ZOMBIELANDakaUSA Triumph would kill them both :) Rik Emmett alone is the single best talent (neal peart is a close second). Fact is I saw Rush and Triumph live and anyone who saw them both live would condider Rush Zombies compared to Triumph. Rush amped up Peart on their studio stuff. He's very good but no one sang and axed like Rik Emmett. Look up the US Festial 83' set here and awe. But I wish I saw Saga Live. Not sure they ever did NY when I was a fan. I have all their early albums.

  • @aitraining

well, nice post, as i've seen Triumph a few times, never saw Rush though. While Emmett is sick, my point is per the technical playing of Ian, he was certainly unique, especially and in particular how he and the keys harmonizations were almost unbelievable.

Check these guys out, they're called 'Consider the Source', incredible band especially the guitarist, perhaps as talented as any i've seen in a damn long time. They play very technical, yet free...wow

  • @ZOMBIELANDakaUSA Will do bro. Thanks!

  • @aitraining

thought you might also appreciate the obvious similarity to Rick Emmett...wink, wink !!!

  • *guitar solo* bitchen;)

  • SAGA HAS TO BE ONE OF THE GREATEST ROCK GROUPS VERY PROGRESSIVE AND AHEAD OF THEIR TIME ALWAYS NOW AND FOREVER!! THEY SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN TONS OF MORE CREDIT THEN THEY GOT:):) AWESOME FOR SURE:):)

  • Yeah, Saga is better than Rush, they are one of the pioneers of the progressive rock genre and influenced King Crimson and Beethoven.

  • @Bedulonko Wow! I love them too but maybe not that much! lol

  • @bossmarion I was being sarcastic.

  • Rush is superior over saga in every aspect of the music. Compare Rush with Saga is like comparing a Bugatti Veyron with a soap box race car!

  • @Azazeth1968 Yup, you're completely right.

  • @Azazeth1968

WRONG! Emphatically WRONG! They are both excellent in their own right, but to say that Rush is superior is simply just your opinion. I feel that Saga's compositions are superior to Rush's. BTW, Saga's songs are more complex and highly textured, something that a 3-man band simply can't pull off. Just my 2-cents though. Peace.

  • This song makes me so horny, especially that riff.

  • Been looking for this song for the longest time and i finally found it. so satisfying

  • I love Saga and I love Rush. To force a choice between them is short sighted. They both have their own distinctive sound. Both of which are awesome.

  • FUCK THE 4 PEOPLE WHO DISLIKE THIS SEXY MUSIC !

  • @TheCprailfan1 Yes, I noticed your comment. There really are illiterates and lazies out there with no talent at all who have to jump to the contrary to knock music that the rest of the world likes.

  • @chukuni76 yea God forbid someone dislikes something in a world full of opinions. I love Saga, but I have just as much respect for the people who have grown up with different tastes than my own. It's when someone insults this music that they deserve to be called illiterate and lazy, not when they give a thumbs down passing by. The button is there for a reason. This is why people dispute over music, sour opinions, unjustified by anything but one's personal taste. Such is life.

  • @TheCprailfan1 Yes fuck the 4 dumb asses who has no musical talent!! Saga rocks man!!

  • Choice load Gordon_YYZ - thanks bro !

  • I've never cared for Rush, but I've always loved this track by Saga.

  • Saga is in my opinion at the same level as Rush. cant pick between them so i chose both! IT WOULD BE AWESOME IF THE DO A TOUR TOGETHER!

  • @riveracollazo Compare this to Rush is something just somone that have never listened to Rush or a complete idiot would do, i grant that the 80s sound of Rush is likely to this one, but compare the band Rush with all his career with Saga is just playing stupid.

  • @Akron162 I agree, Saga doesn't compare to Rush at all. Saga actually has complexity and depth never matched by a band that doesn't even have 1 permanent keyboard player. Also, Ian Crichton is far better more skilled and interesting lead player than the boring and unimaginative Lifeson!

  • @Chain1234 as i said, some people just like to play stupid

  • @Chain1234 Haha that's some good irony.

  • classic song .never again this music will come back.

  • I love the 80s i was in my prime the 80s had the best music.

  • Saga's second concert in Puerto Rico (1981) caused riots from fans trying to crash into a sold-out concert that sold over 10,000 tickets.

  • its saga's worlds and we're just apart of it.

  • Obviously you don't know your mathematics symbols. I think you mean:

    Images at Twilight > 2112

Worlds Apart > Fly by Night

Silent Knight > Permanent Waves and

    xtroxtro1 > dupenzi <--such a gay ass name!

  • @xtroxtro1 Wind Him Up = Subdivisions

  • Well considering there were acts like Max webster and kim mitchell opening the show for rush it was only a matter of time that saga would open for rush too. usually the headlining act performs last . Saga found their audience in europe ,typical canadian story, having to leave canada to find success.

  • AWESOME!

  • THIS WAS OSLO'S TERRORIST FAVORITE BAND

  • One band's better than another band, this one vs. that one. There's nothing like good, healthy, voiced opinion. What fun!

  • I love the 80's....

  • Wow...the memories that conjure up! Love this!!

  • Common people, it's a personal matter of a opinion. You think Saga is better, that's great. You think Rush is better, that's dandy. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

  • Listen people. Saga rules and that's just a fact. Saga has produced one great album after another. Listen to Images at Twlight vs. 2112. Saga wins!! They are still around and still delivering just like Rush. But if I compare, let's say, Cygnus X-1 (a great tune) with The Interview, Saga wins hands down again!!. Plus Rush being #2 isn't so bad. At least there above Triumph, Aldo Nova, Loverboy, Red Rider, and Celine Dion.

  • @xtroxtro1 People have the right to listen and champion Celine Dion. It's just that simple. Listening to this Saga tune, after so long without thinking about it, is awesome. (Wind Him Up) Some of it reminds me of Asia. They're ok. Saga, cool.</:-)

  • Ian Crichton is 10x better than the overrated and overshadowed Lifeson

  • @Chain1234 Absolutely!!! Crichton is 10x better than the overrated and overshadowed Lifeson and Lee put together.

  • great song....great band...great album.

  • Saga is a great band, but better than Rush? Noooo, you must be drunk!

  • @Azazeth1968 ya, way better then rush.

  • @MrKyledz LOL! good joke!

  • The opening of this song is so dark and apocalyptic. Perfect disaster music. Love Saga. Grand grand stuff.

  • Rush #2 to Saga? Are you mad? look at the credentials... Anyone who thinks that doesn't know music, and you can stop pretneding you do. Yes this is a great song.. But Rush didn't become Rush.. without being #1.

  • They played at my high school in 1980 or early 1981..Good band. This is their best song.

  • Ah yes, another classic song from the lost era of rock and roll...the early 1980's, which was also played on album rock station WSLQ - Q99 ROCKS ROANOKE !

  • ETERNA SAGA.

  • SAGA was a decent band for the time but RUSH is by far WAY BETTER, HANDS DOWN.

  • @a1m7e7r6ica

I respect your opinion, but respectfully disagree. Saga, for me, are better. I just like their music better.

    Saga RULES!

  • I heard 'On the Loose' about a year ago on the radio for the first time ever so I decided to download about 10 tracks or so and make a playlist. Epic Sim City 4 custom background music!

  • @compelx Saga *and* SC4? I thought I was the only one!! lmao!

  • @TheFearlessFreep

    Brothers!

  • @compelx try any King Crimson from Discipline album or later for SC4; they did some live improvs that melt into the game. Seven Teas, Beautiful Rainbow, Thela Hun Ginjeet (original features a background monologue about NYC's crime) or even Heavy ConstruKction.

  • Great workout song...........!!

  • @PeacefulColours - Too Funny. I remember in Gr. 7 we had to create an aerobics routine around a song of our choice as part of a gym assignment. Guess what my choice was......oh and I got an A!! :)

  • @TrueNorth2112 Congrats to you True!! You know good workout music when you hear it!

  • Seth Rogan or Adam Sandler need this song in one of their movies.

  • @quincee33

    maybe rogan... sandler sucks

  • Very well done, definetly early eighties sound, please bring it back.I used to see these guy's often @ fryfoggles London,Ont.

  • Very well done, definetly early eighties sound, please bring it back.

  • That drumming is clockwork!

  • I like those glasses <3

  • Another great song from a bygone era - the early 1980's... album rock radio's glory years. Used to come home from middle school with no computer, no cell phone, but with a nice stereo to crank up with hits like this! The best days of my life.

  • @CaptNemo100 The good news is that you can now come home and crank up the computer on youtube and kick back....use technology accordingly....no rap, just classic rock :)

  • @ViciousAlienKlown You know it my friend....rock and roll forever

  • This really is a superb example of the glories of analog programming and original songwriting!

  • Saw these guys in concert in 1983. Absolutely BAD ASS.

  • These tunes get stuck in my head for days after. Can't get the catchy riffs and hooks out of my head. Lady Gaga some of these and put a modern Dr Luke styled beat and Will I Am 808 groove. Get some attractive dancer/frontwoman to release these and most folks in the US would eat it up and not even care if you said they were old Canadian prog rock band, Saga, covers. These are increadible pop hooks!

  • Fabulous song from a gorgeous group!

For me it always was a MUST to see them live.

    BellaƸӜƷ

  • I listen to a lot of rap now, but I always used to listen to this when I was a little bit younger and it is indeed one of the best songs of that time. Still in my memory and mind forever because it's one of the dopest songs.

  • @BooSpriter rap? the worst crap in the history of music and im black. i still hate rap.

  • @BBQFanNo1 I guess you just haven't heard real rap then. There is some really good stuff, you just haven't heard it. If you're referring to shitty rappers that only make the raps to make money then yes that rap is shit, don't just judge an entire genre based on shit rap.

  • @BooSpriter I've never been a big rap fan, but you're right, especially some of the old-school stuff from Run D.M.C. & "Rapper's Delight" from the Sugarhill Gang.

  • Hello people. I'm selling one of the Original records of "Saga worlds apart". My granpa passed away and he gave me some of his collections of Gold records in Frames. Please contact me to oscarpalomares2005@yahoo.com for pricing details and pictures about this gorgeous musical record.

  • My first record was one called Llena tu cabeza de Rock, for the mexican market and this song was one of my favorites....Almost 30 years later I am hearing this once again!!!

  • They sure as hell don't make em like this anymore, its a shame. For those who don't know, this is called talent, back in the day when people could actually sing. We need more bands these days like SAGA, Honeymoon Suite, Santers, Boston, The Eagles, .... you get the point. Most bands nowadays lack that fundamental lynchpin required in any excellent band, and that is called "chemistry". Anyways, that's my 2 cents..... count it.

  • i edited a picture of myself wearing aviators and it looked exactly like this, but i have never heard of this band till now. woooah.

  • This is such a great song! It's some great 80's power pop-rock at its best!

  • This song give me Goosebumps every time. Saga is VERY underrated, they should get the amount of exposure these no talented fuckers like Justin Beeber, Milee Cyrus & Lady Gah Gah.

  • Really tight stuff! Still kicks ass after all these MF years!

  • Their audio masterpiece.

  • Their audio masterpiece

  • Defenatly my favorite song by Saga. But just a question for anyone who played video games back in teh Playstation and N64 days. Dosnt the intro to this sound like the Main Gate Theme from Megaman Legends (Megaman64 if it was on the N64)

  • A great album, but never heard from again :(

  • PowerProgArenaRock first "walkman" experience (radioshack Brand, actually). nice headphone shit.

  • I remember having this album back in the day. I was watching an Iron Maiden interview today and their drummer Nicko McBrain mentions this album as one of his favorites. Kinda cool how musical tastes that seem so different end up intersecting.

  • Awesome song along with "On the Loose" and a few others!! Brings back some great memories!! I remember buying this when it first came out - Still have the cassette!! I was 11!! Efffing Awesome!!!

  • The sound effect of the roullette wheel spinning down always reminded me of the crypt door in Dark Tower.

  • j'adore!!!!!!!!!!

  • Saga, Rush, Triumph, Styx, Kansas, Starcastle, Toto, Boston, Journey. Desert island music.

  • @thadbadass This was badass in the 80s. What are you talking about? This is the early 80s; it wasn't until the late 80s that music got really lame. Then the 90s....sheesh. Has anyone listened to 90s alternative lately? Sounds like junk. That's just my opinion, of course.

  • @ToujoursLAmour Amen, Alt "Rock" was a regression from all the advancements the 80s made, a disgrace to music

  • @thadbadass Yeah, you clearly are desperate to get sodomized by a splintery broom handle. It's always the ones who go on and on and on AND ON about "gay" this and "faggot" that who are always buried the furthest back in the closet. Why don't you start frequenting airport bathrooms until some horny politician gives you "the sign?" ROFL you freak

  • Why don't classic rock stations play this stuff?!

  • @ToujoursLAmour Our classic rock stations love Saga!

  • Best 80s song by far!

  • Unforgettable 80's.. Song and group are great.

  • Not surprisingly (due to rather close proximity to Toronto), this group was quite widely played in Syracuse 1982-85. Sadly slipped into oblivion now...

  • Fuck , this song rocks !

  • Driving around in my '79 camaro with my new pioneer cassette deck and coaxl speakers in the rear with this song cranked... gawd i miss the 80's

  • Aldo is standing at his table, wondering if he's able, to guess the number right this time.

  • Is it just me or does the coolest fucking music on the planet come from this sparsely populated country of Hosers??!?

  • lives on and on....yeah

  • One of the best Rocksongs of all time. I love the 80´s.

  • Thanks for posting. Love this song and of course I could never remember who did it! Think of all the awesome old songs we never think about anymore!?! DAMN.

  • cool school pool

  • damned right your cool idea! thanks!

  • sick tune!love the oldies

  • I think they try ti imitate rush

  • @guacanagarix Alex lifeson wishes he could play half as good as Ian Crichton

  • @Chain1234 If you've ever heard "La Villa Strangiato", you'd know that Lifeson can play anything he wants to.

  • @guacanagarix

I see where your comin from :)

the thought ran through my mind the other day too

Saga's just, Saga, the two ( Rush/Saga) are totally different to me when I think about it.

  • @guacanagarix If anything they sound more like Yes. Saga is more creative than Rush, in my opinion.

  • @evolution4407 I don't know... Do you know exactly how varied Rush's catalogue has been? From hard rock to ponderous sideline suites to reggae to synth pop to modern jazz, Rush has done it.

  • no1s more creative then rush but saga is good all the same

  • @evolution4407 this is some retro shit bro and they dont sound like Yes at all, rush rules way more than this one hit band as good a song as it is.

  • @dupenzi saga was a one-hit band?

    you're a fucking joke kid.

  • @ThisIsMetalz 2112 > all of Saga

  • @evolution4407 Well, you're entitled to your opinion, I like Saga and this song but Rush is on another level, really, come on now.

  • They are good and is a fantastic song.......but better than Rush??? Have you heard Rush???

  • The ultimate energy-kick! SAGA forever and ever! They have created music that lifts me up when the days are very much grey. A walk with my dogs and SAGA in my ears - I can do miracles.... =)

  • The ultimate energy-kick! SAGA forever and ever! They have created music that lifts me up when the days are very much grey. A walk with my dogs and SAGA in my ears - I can do miracles.... =)

  • Saw the band in France on Worlds apart tour, I was 13yo... the best concert I've ever been to ! the guy opening was a blind canadian guitar genious!! sh**! what's his name ??? he had his guitar on his knees playing blues stuf... I'm getting old !

  • @MrNAYDH Your thinking of Jeff Healey

R.I.P. Jeff. He lost his battle March 2, 2008 to the disease that took his sight in the first place, cancer.

  • @BlackDragon1963 Jeff Healey... yes, a great great show he gave ! So RIP but true musicians never die my friend, they keep on living somewhere between our head and our heart. Thank you anyway ! Jeff Healey... great memories !

  • @MrNAYDH

I agree!Jeff Healey was absolutly great!

    Oh,before i forget,thx for sharing this Saga song.....ツ

  • @4BellaHeike ain't SAGA fantastic Bella ? how did you find my comment ??? that's cool :))) Healey is great memory to me, and Saga they just blew the mind of the kid I was when I 1st saw them in France for this Worlds Apart Tour.

    Unique and Immortal !

  • @MrNAYDH

You are a master of exquisit comments,Dom!

Too sad that time is running so fast....I wished i could see Saga again .

I never saw Jeff Healey live, only on DVD or at the tv.He always played so brilliant.ツ

  • wow, so many memories!, great tune..thanks

  • uhh, I love this tune and others from saga, but to say they are better than Rush, Triumph... Hold on junior!

  • Saga is the best Canadian band ever. yes, even better than Rush!!

  • @xtroxtro1

It took courage to say it, but say it you did! Bravo!

    Yes, even better than Rush!

  • @xtroxtro1 Let's not get carried away.

  • @MrRnizio1 I was just gonna say, yes, Saga is great and cool that their Canadian, we don't have a lot of good bands but Rush, wins, always lol

  • @MrRnizio1 I don't get carried away. It's just a fact that Saga is #1 and Rush is #2!!

  • @xtroxtro1 Sorry friend, Saga does have their moments, esp. a couple decades ago with a whole string of good albums.. but Rush keeps on pumping out classic after classic right down to their latest effort. Although I would like to, I just can't say the same for Saga.

  • Awesome, love this song.

  • This is my favorite song ever, my friends mocked me for playing it so much. It is very uplifting and addictive song, I have listened to it about 2000 times over the past 29 years and never tire of it.

70's and 80's music will last forever!!!

  • You´re damn right!

  • @pacman337

I'll probably have listened to this tune 3,000 times in the last twenty years.

  • I love that so many of you feel this is the best or near best song ever, my friends mocked me for playing this so much back when I was a teen when this came out, I really feel this is probably the best songs ever, and sadly very underrated, probably because it is too long for pop radio stations. 70's and 80's music will live for many centuries.

  • Great album cover to go along with a great song.

  • What a great tune from the 80´s!

  • WaldoSkates 80'S is long gone, of course there gonna play it in the under ground, not the main, still maybe be played, doesnt mean its the 80's its just remembering it now..

  • génial !!
