How do you determine what size to use with the grain. Is it always a half size smaller than what you use against the grain? Is it possible to get an even hair cut with only an andis improved masters?
@txrego Most dark caesars are 1.5 or 2 against the grain depending on what the customer wants. The Andis can only give you a light caesar. #1 against the grain, which might be too light for most. You need to know what the client wants first.
@txrego i always start with a cut a nice portion of the hair and ask is the short enough if they say yea then i continue if they say no then i gradually will go down
untill i get formiliar with the client and there wants
OK I CUT MY HAIR TO DAY I USED MY OSTER 76 AND MY T-OUTLINERS 2 AND STYLINERS 2.
SO I STARTED USING DA SPEEED O GUIDE GUARD THE
3/16 THE MOVED DOWN TO THE 1/16 GUARD
THEN AFTER THAT I DIDNT HAVE A DARK CEASUAR HAIR CUT THAT WAS NICE AND CRISPY AND LAIDED DOWN GOOD...SO I WENT AGAINST THE GRAIN AND HAD A VERY LOW HAIR CUT WERE DID I GO WRONG I HAD GREAT OSTER 76 CLIPPER AND THE SPEED-O-GUIDE GUARD I HAD THE 3/16 N DA 1/16 AND THE 1/32
don't mean to ask this really dumb question but throughout the conversations, you keep mentioning andis master... Are you referring to the andis improved master clippers or you referring to an older model?
@alsmillions Hey Al I am a big fan of your work. I couldn't find the video on you channel where you cut a white man's hair like this. Would you mind telling me what the title of the video is? I am trying to see if this type of cut would look good on an Italian like myself.
what kind of clippers are u using in the begining of the video? and is 1A gaurd another name for '1/16' cause i have andis masters & and all my combs are labled 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, etc none say 1A Guard..........and does blade#2 come with the those clippers u was using in the begining of the video. i cut my hair i just have problems laying it down.
I'am trying to get away from short haircuts, so I thought if I were to get a caesar . But a 4/or 5 on the top and just ask for a 2/or 3 on the sides . That would look ok
@stufpuddin Going with or against the grain is not a rule but a matter of preference. It depends on how light or dark the client wants his cut to be. Some clients I cut with the grain to avoid removing their already weak hairline. It all depends on client and what type of look you want.
@tsuki123451 Grain means the natural flow or direction the hair grows. So if the hair flows downward if you go up on it, you're going against the grain.
Can u make a video show just the andismaster and all blades; and explain the different combination of open and close, and the length and number each guard is call when they are open,mid-way and close please. I having a hard time figuring this out. It would really help me when a cut hair especially when i taper and fade hair. Thanks Al, we really appreciate all ur help
how you doing al, when you say a number 1 guard on the andis master, is it just the master with no guard wide open or is it actually a 1/16 clip-on guard; and the #2 is the 1/8 clip-on guard?
I'm using a Wahls #1 which is 1/32". Closed with the guard, the Andis is a #1. Second notch with the guard, the Andis is a 1A. Open with the guard the, Andis is a 1.5
1 more question...what if u can't determine exactly what direction the client's hair is growing cuz they have alot of hair that's patted down like an Afro for example. How would u go about starting the cut to make sure you're cutting against the grain.
Most hair flows downward naturally. That means it flows from the back (top/crown) to the front and from the crown down to the nape of the neck. One can't assume that it will flow that way all the time so you should always comb or pick the hair to see how it's flowing. So you should be combing and cutting to make sure you're following the grain of the hair.
So lets say u start a haircut against the grain with an Andis Master with no guard and the blade all the way open (lite ceaser) how would u adjust the clipper blades when u start cutting with the grain to smooth it down? Would the blades have to be all the way closed in order to smooth the cut with the grain?
arent you suppose to cut as the waves form. it seem ur going aginst the waves am confused not debating with you. i know your a professional just wanna leave
You can cut it both ways depending on how low the client wants it. You will never get the hair this low and even cutting with the grain, so it must be cut against the grain to get a low even cut.
if i used a andis master instead of a detatchabable clipper with a 1/16 guard with the grain will it leave patches or does it depend on how hard or soft i press on the clients head?
What determines whether you cut against or with the grain because I've seen you cut with the grain on other videos? And how many different clippers are neccessary for a barber to utilize during one cut? Thanks
How low the customer wants his hair. You can only get but so low cutting with the grain. Cutting against the grain allows you to cut the hair shorter and cleaner. Then you need to cut with the grain with lower blade to lay the hair down. The you go over it again with a lower guard to remove the wild hairs and to give the hair a smooth look. So you might use about 3-4 different blades including the trimmer to finish a haircut correctly. It just comes down to what the customer wants.
i used this method on a customer of mine today who has pretty much the same hair texture as this guy your cutting and it really helped, i was always wondering why even when i cut with a 1/2 guard with the grain it wouldn't get that short and it wouldn't look smooth in all areas, so today i just went with the grain first with a number 1 1/2 then with the grain with a short number one and it came out smooth and even when i combed it down, thanks al millon!!!you've got the best tutorial videos out!!
I'm interested in becoming a barber, what advice could you give. Don't have any actual experience cutting hair, but very willing to learn. I'm in VA. Is there anything I can study or look into before I sign up for a school.
A Ceasar is the stlye of cut rather than the length. A #1 is simply a light Ceasar. The cut I'm doing in the vd is a #2 against the grain (A dark Ceasar). Back in the times of Jesus the Romans wore this type of cut and they called it the Ceasar after their leader Julius Ceasar.
