  • kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • OHHHHH 8 MEMBERS PLEASE .POSSIBLY MORE LIVE LOOOOOL

  • this sucks hard. they are a professional band?

  • @critesbill ashole

  • sorry am i the only one hearing his guitar that is horresdously flat?

  • sorry this is absolute horrendous fuckin swill

  • I believe this band to be the best on the planet and the natural successors to Talking Heads, but really, this needs a tad more work on it. :)

  • THIS SUCKS. WTF?!

  • Oooh, terrible ... They totally butchered a great song!

  • doesn't even get the order of the lyrics right, this sucks

  • one of the best talking heads songs ever!!!!

  • why do you need 10 odd people to do this it beats me........they do a crap version too......overrated band they are.

  • Am willing to wager that 99"% of the audience don't know the original 'talking heads' version ...unless they saw 'Wall Street," the movie. Have listened tonight to all versions presented at YT and must say 'the fire' do the song justice; but nothing is quite like the original. Has endured decades; still holds up as one of the great rock songs of "the age." However, this version does deserve another spin, my favorite song and all that. Arcade Fire is groove. Be kind to each other. Love is always!

  • Just an average bar band..They'll never make it big ;)

  • I like better the cover of MGMT (:

  • @IMBURNINUP me too

  • No. That is all.

  • That was awful

  • super gut - best regards - johannes from frankfurt germany

  • do you see his pain, he is wearing it in his voice, a child on stage signing the song of his role model, god bless his soul, talent, ambition, and before i get carried away, the music moves me closer to the clouds.... Dac Attack

  • this is a very good cover but i prefer the mgmt cover version! check it out!

  • No.

  • ahahahah this is so fucking bad it's amazing!

  • what the fuck is this arcade fire

  • I am sorry to write this, but I don't like this cover. I have never found David Byrne a very good singer. He might be a good songwriter, but for the most part I don't care for his voice. Thus I am rather surprised that the lead singer's tired-sounding voice in this actually makes David sound good in comparison.

  • I love this

  • fa cagare! shit!

  • i didn't think it was possible for me to lvoe this song anymore than i already do.

  • It's nice to see a zombie gainfully employed as a backup singer.

  • @IHaveArrived the funny part is i honestly dont know which person youre talking about

  • @IHaveArrived ha ha crack up!

  • Damn. Cool.

  • i wouldnt say they butchered it. they made it their own. not as good as the original but still very creative and bad ass

  • I like Arcade Fire... but what is this, I mean... really?!

  • @NORCOHUCKER It's called magic.

  • way to butcher this song, guys.

  • i honestly love this

  • This is EXACTLY what a cover ought to be.. homage and ownership.

  • lol why do people even bother with covers if they just wanna hear the original

  • what a bunch of garbage

  • Regine should've sung this song. To Win. That would've been the best thing ever.

  • It's like a bunch of pretentious zombies stormed the stage.

    No comparison to TH.

  • Just listened to the original Talking Heads version and I'll have to say I like the Arcade Fire version just that little bit more

  • musically awesome,lyrically horrible

  • too much! awesome, awesome cover...!!

  • this is a pretty straight ahead cover (if you not used to watching pub/wedding bands). good tune

  • I'm a big AF and TH fan, but I don't think they quite got hold of this...Win sings the wrong words in the first verse. I think MGMT's cover is the better version

  • Gawsh Regine is so freaking adorable.

  • his voice butchered this great song

  • The comment above me is gay.

  • It'd be better if his guitar was tuned.

  • @kctolliver I agree, it's been bothering me. Arcade Fire should hire us to tune their guitars, lol.

  • every thing other than the singing is at least barely acceptable. sounds worse than me.

  • No different than Bette Mdler singing Rolling Stones Beast of Burdon. Each group makes the song their own. If u dont like it, dont listen

  • caca

  • Sad day 4 talking heads =(

  • THIS IS DISRESPECTFUL

  • And in hind sight, bum note at 2:27

  • Scarf drop at 1:40 is actually awesome :p

  • Is it just me or does he sound awful!?

  • neeeeds some bass

  • Régine's cute robot moves at 1:59

  • This is my favourite song of all time. And David Byrne's voice gives me goosebumps every single time I listen to it. This version doesn't do that, but it is still pretty awesome. I love the music in this cover. A nice take on the original. It fares much better than MGMT's version.

  • This Must Be The Place. I don't care who's doing it, I love allll versions!! It just makes me happy :)

  • win needs to learn the first verse

  • It's official. Arcade Fire can do anything.

  • I do not understand the tidal wave of hype surrounding this 'band'.

Minimal talent demonstrate with a huge PR machine driving it all.

  • @chem0rocks - This song is not representative of the 'talent' possessed by Arcade Fire .... It's a subtle cover that reveals little, other than showing they can play a delicate piece of music by another songwriter ...

Arcade Fire is not famous or beloved because of this song : They are beloved because they play their own music with a gusto and spirit that is rare today. Songs like Tunnels, Rebellion, Intervention and Wake Up have extraordinary energy in live performance. Search YT for more

  • @TrajanGregory I've heard a proper sampling (and far too much) of their 'music'. These clueless whiners can make the search for a parking spot at the local shopping mall sound like an insurmountable crisis for the privileged young adult superstars they believe themselves to be. Spare me, this band needs to grow up, go watch Ken Burns' PBS series "Jazz", or maybe the Jonathan Demme film "Stop Making Sense"

  • @chem0rocks Hate to get involved down the line of the argument, but i think you have the message of the suburbs confused. Amusing as your summary is, you are pretty off. Its nothing about privilege or wealth, or even (directly) bad experiences such as not finding a parking spot (!). It's a lament about how we all too quickly can move on from the times that mattered most to us, and the ironic frustration that the world has moved on too. lyrics Suburbs + cont, Sprawl i, and Wasted Hours sum it up.

  • @howardmoon1234 We choose to disagree on this issue. :)

I must say that whining about how "we all too quickly can move on from the times that mattered most to us, and the ironic frustration that the world has moved on too" while staring at their bellybuttons and doing nothing to improve their situation is also incredibly annoying to me.

Suck it up cupcakes, I thought Canadians were tougher than that.

  • @chem0rocks Interesting. That's completely true, they don't offer a lot about what they are going to do about their situation. Haha at first I thought you were just trolling, but in fairness you clear have listened to them, and if you don't like, fair do's. Cheers.

  • @chem0rocks Man, you couldn't be more off base. I imagine you are alluding to Sprawl II as you mentioned, "search for a parking spot at the local shopping mall sound like an insurmountable crisis....." I think your take is a superficial and ignorant one as the song is more of a chronicle to adolescence in the suburbs. And as far as your assertion about them growing up, I guess it's not a grown-up move to donate millions of dollars to Partners in Health and Haiti. How whiny and immature!

  • @esurell get over yourself. I stated my opinion, you have stated yours, except you resorted to calling my views insulting names.

I still view them as a favorite of the 'poseur hip crowd', those 'who want to be cool', and those taken in by the PR hype surrounding this band.

PS don't play the 'philanthropy' card on me. That's a game you will lose.

  • @chem0rocks Well....that's like your.........opinion man. I find it laughable that you think they need to grow up. It seems as though you probably haven't done a lick of research on them and are like the rest of the drones in our society that just buys whatever the mainstream media sells you. I get it. And that is my opinion of your take. My piddly 2 cents.

  • @esurell moving from insulting just my views to insulting me directly. classic.

what's next from you? arousing rendition of 'nanny nanny boo boo'?

  • shit

  • No doubt, this is just so damn good!

  • this is so fucking cool.

  • otima versao, essa musica é muito foda, quero o arcad fire no rock in rio!

  • arcade fire + talking heads = why i wake up in the morning

  • i truthfully love this version, I think they had a good take on it.

  • very,very nice!

I bet David likes this version

  • Three thumbs up!

  • Arcade Fire are bi-winning with this one

  • this is truly a great example of creative juice and if they did not have the juice dave would not play with them

the other people who don't or cant hear it just will never get it

  • I think this cover sounds terrible and significantly detracts from the placidly content coolness of the original song--and I can't believe Win can't get the freaking words right.

As bizarre as David Byrne is, though, and knowing the "naive" recording concept that framed the original recording, I bet he completely adores this.

  • I love it how on pop artist's vids it just says 'OMG OMG I LOVE HERRRR' whereas here we have in depth discussions about whether or not talking heads had an 'experimental spirit' or whether the micro-oscillation in the 2nd bar of the 3rd chorus makes the song better.

  • What an incredible cover. I confess to not being as big a fan of arcade fire as music critics seem to be, but a band that can do something like this is worthy of notice. A great song (one of the best by the talking heads) - a great cover.

  • I wish hipsters would find another Talking Heads song to cover. On second thought, maybe I don't.

  • @WCarnation oh yeah I'm with you there... You could be a bit more charitable and see things like this as a kind of compliment to our generation though.

  • I love this band, but they really raped the song...

  • crap!!!! i hate this band, destroying a great song

  • @StealthMission1 rubbish - this is a great cover. They found a new vibe to the song, but still kept the the same homely quirkiness. That's what a cover should be. Not at imitation, but an enrichment of the song's emotion.

  • screwed up the lyrics pretty good then sang the same verse again?

  • Just google it Giostrasse, it's out there.

  • A wonderful take on a pure classic. I would love to be able to buy this.

  • good try, but still nothing compared to the original

  • goood version not bad at all. but anyone who says this is better than the original is kind of retarded. I think arcade fire would think ur retarded too

  • Sooo good, thank you David B for writing this years ago and thanks to current bands exposing new people to great 80's tunes...I'm a sucker for a good cover, especially when I like both parties involved...

  • I approve of this cover. David Byrne would smile,

  • Awesome cover.

  • whaat? why?? not cool ... i can't dance to this at all !!

  • @weaselidiotu You can dance to this, shoot I love dancing my ass off to the talking heads with all my parents friends who are 40-50...Have a few drinks you will find the beat, it's better to dance to this than dry hump someones leg listening to rap or something trashy like that

  • @Jesp185 i still don't agree. but if david says it;s ok...

  • Pretty good cover. Vocals definately better than instruments.

  • terrible version of this song....absolutely terrible

  • The steel drums sound bad ass in this song. I just wish he'd sing a little better. This dude has a killer voice so I assume it's intentional. But I wouldn't go as far as calling it fucking horrible or crap.

  • awsome cover!

  • absolutely fucking HORRIBLE, just watch the live version of stop making sense and there is no comparison this is fuckin brutal, seriously, a disgrace.

  • @ElecticGuruofHotness Everything they do here is intentional, just so you know.

  • Art fags.

  • Jeezus, tune that guitar, dude. This blows.

  • @auditiesfoundation Bah, stop making sense! Delightful twist on the original, tickles other parts of the brain not just auditory.

  • this is my favorite moody blues song! love them yall

  • @RayCharles444 The Moody Blues are great, but this is a Talking Heads song.

  • fucking dreadful

  • haha i like arcade fire, but this fucking sucks!!!

  • i love this band so much.

  • You know who else was thought to be a bad singer (self-proclaimed), David Byrne.

  • i think Régine can fart into a microphone and i'd watch it. she's got to be the most multi-talented musician out there. At least living.

  • @anotherusersucks no that honor belongs to David Gilmour

  • I just came across this and it's absolutely fantastic. One of my favorite Talking Heads songs covered by one of my other favorite bands. Like Alexandria said, "buttery heaven"

  • this is a great cover, they really make it their own, which of course is the mark of a good cover

  • I saw these guys on SNL this week. That singer chick is kinda hawt.

  • I love arcade fire and the talking heads more than anything. A hybrid of them both is like buttery heaven.

  • MGMT's version that they did in college is essentially a karaoke session...

  • There is no sampling going on here, which not a lot of bands can pull off (for most Talking Heads songs, and this one in particular) And as @Sillius2 correctly said, this makes this "very much in the style of the original." David Byrne obviously liked it.

  • mgmt in high school sounds nicer than these guys. thats all.

  • If you liked the original, check out the Miles Fisher cover. Its my personal favorite.

  • If you liked the original, check out the Miles Fisher cover. Its my personal favorite.

  • i just watched wallstreet and i ran to find this in youtube and a found this wonderful cover

  • ANYONE WHO COVERS TALKING HEADS IS THE BEE'S KNEE'S.

  • good

    it could be worse

  • lol nice.

  • Wasn't this in Wall Street?

  • Haiti reminds me of this song. I'm so glad they covered it :)

  • If you don't like this cover, you never really understood what the Talking Heads where all about.

  • learn the words, at least, if you're gonna butcher one of the best songs ever written.

  • My favorite TH song covered by one of the best bands working today. Cool. Thanks for posting.

  • Hey there tdo23487, wishing that sort of shit on someone has a way of coming back to you (as well as nicely illustrating just what a nasty little prick you are). Sit back & enjoy that infected dog bite/weeping eye ulcer/arse chancre/shit stained icecream that Life is sending your way. Wanker.

  • nice one!

  • nice one!

  • big TH fan - and i think this is great. nice one!

  • This is actually one of the best covers I've heard of this, his voice isn't great in this but on Live at TT the bears, cambridge it's alot better, and the studio version is pure class.

  • That guy can't sing this song for shit.

Not a very good cover at all sorry.

  • @PushingUpTrollss Granted, it takes a huge Talking heads nerd to know this, but this version is very much in the style of the original. In the original, the Talking Heads band members switched to unfamiliar instruments to deliberately bring a homemade, unpolished quality to the music. It was a conceptual bit. That's why the song is called Naive Melody. The Heads did get it much more polished than this for the film and studio versions, but it is a conceptually faithful cover.

  • @Sillius2 point well taken about the raw, garage band sound, but that is not why it is called Naive Melody. The reason is that on the original track the bass line and guitar are doing exactly the same thing, which in conventional musical composition is virtually never done.

  • @Sillius2 Agree 100% that, while very unique and quite different than the orignal - this has plenty of merit. In many ways its very true to the "experimental spirit" that was at the core of everything the TH's stood for. Byrne himself has since joined AF on stage, so we aren't the only ones who think AF has something special going on. Byrne doesn't waste time collaborating with anyone he doesn't artistically respect.

  • @rlefaive Not to mention David Bowie

  • @Sillius2 you made me sign in to give you a thumbs up for that. thanks.

  • @Sillius2

Actually, according to the commentary on the DVD of Stop Making Sense it's (naive melody) because the bass and guitar play the same melody...

  • I love this! Sure the singing is a little feeble, but it's more heart felt that way. That's just their style. David Byrne said himself in an interview talking to himself that the better someone can sing, the harder it is to believe what they are saying.

I think this is pretty nice, and Arcade Fire may fit the broad generalization of "hipster", but they are a unique, creative, eclectic band. Their music is actually quite solid.

  • word this is just horrible

  • omg why would you butcher such a legend song????? By far one of the worst covers ive ever heard.

  • @tdo23487

did you not read my comment that I left for people just like you?! god damn people are so fricking dimwitted theses days. I pray that we are all made blind and mute.

  • @mnsnota No I didnt read it. I pray for your female family members to be brutally raped and infected with aids. I pray for you to have your cock cut off and fed to you. Your an idiot and you dont know what music is.

  • You guys should know that Arcade Fire has a studio recorded version of this song that sounds about 100X better. Win's voice sounds better represented in it. There is a youtube video that has the studio version of this song but Youtube wont let me link it here.

  • great band - great cover they're brilliant, you mugs

  • great band - great cover

  • Fuck hipsters what a terrible cover thanks for ruining the 80s u assholes

  • First of all, Regine is killing on the steel drum! Ok, second: I don't know the song they're covering that well, so I can't tell if it's better. I think Win is awesome, and even if he can't sing that well (live, that is), he still sings with heart, and I think that is more important than being spot on.

  • Covers are meant to be done in the cover band's version. Not copies of the original. I love the original. I love both bands. I'll admit, I said to myself, "I hope they do this justice". Its a natural, knee jerk reaction to covers of songs that you love. Good covers bring something new to the table. Otherwise what is the point? Logically, AF have a better performance of this out there. Thank them for actually singing live and playing instruments instead of being cookie cutter auto-tuners

  • I love Arcade Fire, but I always felt that they butchered this song in this rendition. I just don't think the Win was ever meant to sing this song, and yes he definitely can sing. His delivery just was sutited fo rthis song.

  • One of the best grounding cool tunes ever, this band chopped it to peices..worst vocal weak and squeeky made even worse by the awful playing of that steel drum bent over attacking it what the hell no wonder the crowd is not moving they are thinking WTF is this!!

  • @icaros67 bollocks - Byrne and TH were of this ilk. Admirable adaptation by a band as cutting edge as TH.

  • ima big fan of this cover, but i have a better version on my ipod that i dont know from where it came. its way better than this version. i never really like talking heads version that much but this song makes me love this song.

  • song is great , hard to totally damage it,kettle drum lady a trip,

  • ive listened to everyone say that this is the best cover of this song and it is god awful- never really cared much for this band but i am a huge talking heads fan-if u want to hear the greatest cover of this song listen to it by the string cheese incident- they do this song justice- preferably the version i heard live at the rave in milwaukee 8/1/04 the best ive ever heard!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • PS this is great just for Win's brother's zombie dance!

  • What extreme feelings being expressed below! I loved Talking Heads from the beginning - 77 and Fear of Music, etc -and likewise 'reckon' Arcade Fire. Talking Heads' music is timeless and original. Arcade Fire have done a great arrangement of this song and the maxim that all publicity is better than no publicity must ring with D Byrnne. An honour to be covered by a great band, surely?

  • best cover I have SEEN. i have seen alot. like it
