Your fist step is at abandon the writings of Saul of Tarsus. Go back and re-read the teachings of Yeshua and Yacov, out of Pauline context, in the only authentic Gospel, Matthew, all others were written to justify Paul, who was backed and supported by Herodians and Romans. Ignore the propaganda of the Roman Universal Church that they were persecuted - they weren't, only the Nazoreans were persecuted, by the Hellene Chrestians, who existed centuries before and co-opted the Messianic movement.
If you want the apprehension of truth, Perennial Philosophy and Empirical Mysticism is what you are looking for. It is stunning how easily individuals move from on rationalized self justified blind faith to another, and that is all Gnosticism is, another rationalized, self justified, self justifying belief. To attain enlightenment and liberation one must walk the path of discipline and practice, not just BELIEVE another belief, move from one temporal conditional construct. to another.
Gnosticism, as is Neo-Gnosticism, is counter-cultural (in the context vs. true Faith and Wisdom) new age bunk (new age then, and picked up by the New age today) is counterfeit Mysticism - and in fact no real mysticism, but counter cultural anarchist re-enculturalization. Gnosticism is not the truth of Jesus, but the faith of Roman Syncretism. Gnosticism is just another temporal phenomenal conditional construct, created to justify and enable compulsion, impulse and condition.
It is interesting, though not ironic, that modern "neo-pseudo-Gnostics" quote Saul of Tarsus as the justification of their FAITH. Saul of Tarsus was not a Jew, nor was he an accepted (let alone appointed) disciple, let alone an apostle. Saul was a Roman spy, son of Herod, who's teachings were not what so ever Jewish, let alone Nazorean, and were created for the purpose of subverting and usurping the messianic mission and true Gnosis of Yeshua and his brother Yacov.
You shall know the truth... and the truth shall -Set- -You- -FREE-..... but the church shall do anything in their efforts to enslave you and make you loose the truth and you shall be left to wander in darkness forever... Nietsche was right... about everything.
I've heard that the gospel of Thomas was taken out of the Bible. It's a shame because it doesn't allow most people who have read the Bible to see the whole story behind Christ.
Wow very cool regardless of your beliefs. These elements are still all over the Canoptic Gospels. Sometimes when studying the Word, I feel as if modern Christianity should be called Paulinity instead. Peace and blessings.

A slave is still a slave, whether they call themselves a slave, or a master.
