Talking to you people you can relate to is one of the most importants thing when dealing with this kind of mental health issues. Friendship with other sufferers is one thing that have helped me. Join a forum or a website like Mapofmates. People are really nice on these kind of sites.
Yes, post-it notes, day planners and voice recorders. I know an ADD'er who relies on them. It does great for his self esteme. So presently his office now has 3000 post it notes on all the walls...they are covered. The door is where the most important "have-to-do" notes are posted...about 300 of them and growing dayly. The day planner is EMPTY and the voice recorder has 256 important messages on it. The most important thing though, is that the ADD'er really FEELS that he's got full control NOW~
I"m one of those people who believe that ADD is not a real condition. After doing my own research I've concluded that those with very severe symptoms likely have something else and have just been misdiagnosed and anyone with lesser symptoms are just normal healthy people. We live in a time where people are expected to sit at a desk for hours at a time focusing on one thing (school/work) but b4 the 1940's human beings didn't live this way.
@lauraleesmithagain From my earliest memories, I have been a weird kid, I wasn't able to talk to children in preschool, I even found out I hugged them as a child until someone told me it's not right to do that... My whole life has been "monkey see, monkey do", I have no social interaction skills all the other people seem to be born with... I cannot hold a conversation without skipping onto tangents... Before I had internet, games or even a pc I have been this way... I'm acting my life...
@lauraleesmithagain but still, many many people are still able to do it. I don't drive because I can't focus or concentrate and my mind wonders constantly.
Can some one foward me to videos where ican learn info reatian skills for my ADHD i having alot of trouble studying and retain the info becuase i get exemly bored
No !!! to medications. I have pretty strong ADD/ADHD and medication is not a key for long term.. You can organized and focus on things by re arrange clutters to simpler setting and self breathing.Medications separate you from who you are. Plus how long you need to take those?
Try natural things. You are the one has control for your life. Usually one of your parents thoughts and mind pattern affected you . My case was my mother.
I think one of the T.As at my college has mild A.D.H.D. She has to be careful with fizzy drinks, gets overexcited and laughs about everything, embarrassed her daughter in front of all the parents by being too loud at a competition, and I think she finds her job too much sometimes because she forgets lots of things. Don't worry, you're probably more fun than most grown-ups! I'd like to meet one that is (definitely) A.D.H.D! I have Asperger's, by the way.
i had add &failed school.medication only screwed me up..but i make beats today.&do many gigs and dj&play in a band&produce.add is a fake disorder to make the kids that ask more questions ppl cant answer so they drug them 2 shut them up&stop asking questions.sorry i didnt take my pills i sold them to ppl.lol im fine today&have a greater life then anyone i grew up with that wasnt add/adhd.its&excuse they find for kids that are more artistic, brighter and more prone to learning that they dope up. :)
Try not to take amphetamine based medicine like Ritalin or Adderall, especially if you have a family history of alcoholism or addiction. My son died from Ritalin addiction at age 22. God bless you.
@pwg1126 I agree that amphetamines may be too risky, due to their highly neurotoxic potential. Ritalin, on the other hand, may actually be extremely helpful, at least to some individuals with ADHD. I recently came across a study that found that the dopamine transporters in some kids with ADHD were actually working in reverse. In other words, it's as if these kids were already on amphetamines 24/7. Treatment with Ritalin (a dopamine transporter inhibitor) actually blocked this reverse process.
I have ADHD
