  • This is amazing knitting skills :O :D

  • Thanks, this was really clear and helpful!

  • Thank you! Very helpful. Hope you are able to ignore all these idiots who obviously have nothing better to do than make rude comments just to be mean!

  • before i just drove to the guy at the knitting store and asked him to cast on for me..... then I drove back..............messed up........drove there again............you get the picture.

  • accent hilarious!

  • For the loose end (the end not connected to the rest of the yarn) that's left after casting on, is there supposed to be another knot or something to secure it or am I supposed to just let it drop and it'll be stable?

  • @TechnologyFML You can just let it drop while you carry on knitting - it'll be stable. You will need to sew it in when you've finished - if you just cut it off it'll unravel at the bottom.

  • i thought she said bull instead of ball...........so i went and bought a bull named knitting for nothing

  • epic fail

  • this is about the 5th casting on video i watched, and the first time i was like "Oh, THAT'S it!" so easy. thanks.

  • Thankyou so much! This was really helpful!

  • >:(..... I got stuck on the first part.......

  • you talk like the people from Harry Potta

  • @scarlettradams I know, right??

  • THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH! ive been looking around for a good cast on step by step and couldnt find anything good and kept screwing up (super discouraging!) thx a bunch for an awesome and well described video! :)

  • I love this method of casting on. It's lovely and stretchy and great to start knitting from.

  • This video helped me out so much! I have a book, but the diagrams were just losing me. This was what I needed!

  • @Hellner Same with me... When I was younger, I asked my sister to borrow her book because the only knitting I knew how to do was finger knitting. The pictures and words were too hard for me to understand, and yet, years later, I finally got it.....

  • i knew how to cast on but i forgot

  • @cioli23 it's great you dumb***....can't you see she's trying??? I bet your one of those who post hate on everybody's vids, so shut your God D*** mouth

  • so helpful !! I've been struggling with this for an hour now, now I've actually got it ! thanks

  • This helped me in no way what's so ever. Even time after I let go off the loop on my thumb it undoes the stitch.

  • @TodLovesCopper Because your ****ing doing it wrong

  • SO helpful! Thank you very much! :D

  • Thanks, I was trying another way to cast on but I guess I mess up completely but I was trying to find a another way, Thank I found your video it was really useful it was really a lot better understanding and now I get the hang of it. and yet again thanks so much =)

  • This was VERY simple and easy to understand. Thankyou!

  • Great video. Was struggling a little learning the cast on but watched this and figured it out.

  • Thank you :-))

  • THANK YOU, this was SOO helpful! I've been watching soooo many videos trying to figure out how to do this and you do a GREAT job of making it so simplistic and understandable :D

  • dumbie and i cnt understand nglish plz

  • Ohh my gosh! You taught me how to do it!!!:) <3

  • I have tried learning from other sources but now that I've seen this, I have the heart to try again--will come back & tell how it goes. You do it differently than I've seen before and I LOVE how you made your slipknot. So much easier than what I figured out self-teaching!

  • I must have looked at six or seven videos on casting. This is the only one that helped me figure it out. Thank you!

  • this is finaly a video that shows how to do it, everything ive seen is just done in 1 or 2 seconds and you have no idea what happend.

  • This video is great! My 1st time knitting. I was taught to knit stitches, but not to cast on. I most certainly could not have figured it out without knit67's video. Great instructions, well done!

    Thank you knit 67!

    p.s. I can cast on... :)

  • Thank-you so much, such a clear video, very well done - I can now cast on!

  • thank u so helpful. :)

  • thank you! this was extremely helpful. you are clear and slow with your demonstration. :)

  • You are so clear. I found loads of videos and websites and they all confused me. Thank you!!!! Also you speak slowly which is a good thing.

  • This is the absolute best video on this technique I have seen and the only one I could actually learn with! Thank you!!!

  • I hate casting on, but I love knitting. This just made my knitting life so much easier!!! Thank you so much!

  • Wtffff hahahah that's so hard and makes no sense

  • thank you so so much!! i was completley lost trying to follow this other guide and now this makes total sense! YAY!

  • i love the way u say stitch thxz

  • Thank you so much for this video. I just picked up some needles and yarn today and tried to learn how to knit from somewhere else. I felt like giving up until I found this video. I have to tell you, nothing beats the feeling I had when I cast on my first few stitches. I would love it if you made some more videos, like how to bind off.

    Again, thank you. (:

  • GREAT video! Thanks so much. I can knit now! Yay!

  • After I cast on and get ready to start my first row, I end up with a really long piece of yarn in between my needles. What is happening here?

  • @hoey2835 Not sure what could be happening. When you cast on like I show in the video then you only use one needle. All the stitches are on that needle. At the end of the cast on row both ends of the yarn are at the same end. Then to knit the first row you bring in your second needle. Make sure to keep the tension tight or you'll end up with loopy stitches. Then if you tighten the loop from the wrong end you could end up with a long strand between needles.

  • @knit67 it is not working for some reason.

  • @hoey2835 I think you're probably "untying" one of the knots.

  • @hoey2835 This happens to me too, and I have yet to figure out how to prevent that from happening. Any luck on figuring it out?

  • FINALLY! A video that is clear cut and well shot! Yay me! I can finally cast on :) Thank you!!!!

  • the slip knot is sooo hard.

  • I love the way you say "Just like that," thanks for the video!

  • thank you very much, you info was very helpful and clear,

  • Wonderful video!

  • YES!!!! Thank you SO much for this amazingly wonderful video!!! I've seriously been using the tail to make slipknot and then transfer to the other needle... I could NEVER get the hang of casting on!!! Thank you SO MUCH for this AMAZING video!!!!!!! I couldn'tve done it without you!!! =D

  • thank you :-)

  • Your voice just made this memorable. Thanks, this was super clear :D!

  • Yay! If I would have just listened to the instructions instead of trying to rush through the video I would have gotten it! My brain tends to shut off when it hears numbers. :) thanks!

  • Can someone tell me why my tail end keeps getting shorter when I do this cast on?

  • What's happening is you're making knots/stitches in the middle taking up some yarn from both the tail end and the ball end. It's why you need to have a long tail end to start with. If you want to cast on where you only use yarn from the ball then you need the two needle cast on. You can find a video showing how to do that at my website

  • YouTube won't let me post the website address so I'll do it in bits: theknittingsite . com / 2ncast-onswf . htm

  • I totally fail at this.

  • Thanks

  • @knit67 , hello :)

im getting abit confused at casting on? :(

i cant get the loops on the needle :(

  • Are there different methods of creating stitches and casting on? I bought a beginners knitting book but your explanation seems totally different and clearer than theirs

  • Great cast-on. Very clear and concise. It was this video that got me on my way to relearning how to knit (I'd been taught how five or so years ago, but had forgotten how to do it, and had never learned how to cast on). I used this video and away I went! Thank you!

  • This is a really great video on how to cast on!

  • THANK YOU like the video

  • THANK YOU <3 the video

  • THANK YOU!!!

I don't know why, but casting on has been so hard for me and very hard to remember! This video was SO helpful!!! Thanks again!!! :D

  • omg i did it! Thank you so much!!! :D

  • omg i did it! Thank you so much!!! :D

  • thank you so much! this was the first video that i was able to follow (after having watched several others) and it worked straightaway!!!

  • thank you so much! this was the first video that i was able to follow (after having watched several others) and it worked straightaway!!!

  • thank you! i can cast on now!

  • Yay finally a video that actually helps me cast on rather than confusing me more! Also an easy way to do a slip knot!

  • BEST cast-on video ever!!!! thanks!!

  • BEST cast-on video ever!!!! thanks!!

  • Thank you soo much! This was such a help. When your actually knitting, it's pretty easy, but I can never remember how to cast on. Great vid!

  • Thank you, stitches are fairly easy because you do them repeatedly, but casting on you only have to do once and I always have trouble remembering how to do it.

  • Thank you so much! I'm barely learning how to knit and you saved me!

  • Very helpful thanks(:

  • Rather awkward the way the anglosaxons cast on and knit. There are more efficient ways of doing both.

  • thank you for the video :) the book I'm using isn't very in depth and you make it look much easier than what the book shows <3

  • I get very frustrated with all kinds of tasks and luckily my b/f was able to teach me something I actually halfway understood. But he lives 2.5 hours away from me and is not always there for me to go to when I need something explained. I found this video to be helpful when I was preparing to work on my second knitting prodject.

  • @xallythebearx

I m going to do that too cool.

  • that was such a helpful video thankyou :) the music was a bizarre choice but it really got me in the zone :)

  • I am getting it! Thanks!!

  • im 12 and im trying to learn to knit over christmas break :)

  • @xallythebearx Knitting is wonderful but please don't try to learn it the "english" way. It's ever so awkward. Try the continental method, it's much easier and more efficient.

  • Wow! Soo much quicker than my usual method. Thank you so much!!

  • OMG!!! :D :D thank you so much! i was getting frustrated wen i was watching other videos that didnt help but this one actually worked! THANK YOU!

  • this was really helpful thank u :)

  • Thanks you! My mom taught me once when I was little but because of exams and school I didn't knit for a long LONG time and forgot how. >< And I just love your voice. (:

  • oomg. u just taight me how to cast off. FRIGGEN THANK YOU! ♥

  • i love the video although i dont know how to do the second row!! please help

  • There's a way easier way

  • @TheMw2merker I agree, lol, the other methods seem much easier.

  • Thanks so much for a great video! I haven't knitted in 5 years and I had forgotten! Your video is a wonderful demo and I am knitting away in no time!

  • Hi, do you happen to know how to knit like little pillows? I'm trying to search it but theres no video of how to knit it so could you help me? =)

  • This was very helpful to me, thanks for the instruction!!!

  • I'm wondering if you can connect all the stitches, but still only using the one needle... If so, how do you do it? Could you make a video of that?

  • This was really helpful. Thanks.

  • Thank you so much! I know how to knit, I just keep forgetting how to make the stitches. This is the only Youtube video showing how to make stitches that's been any good so far.

  • dude i fukcing love her voice

  • I had to go back a lot of times until I actually got what was going on but I got it now!

  • this was so helpful! thanks so very much. i got a set of knitting needles for christmas a while back, and i've been putting off any actual knitting because every time i try, i get frustrated when i can't properly cast on. this video was perfect: easy to understand, and at a beginner's level :)

  • Does it matter whether you cast on from the tail or using the main thread? I like having a somewhat short tail so I don't confuse it with the other but don't like trying to calculate how much to use...especially on items that require lots of CO stitches. I use a different method, but I've noticed that it leaves the last CO stitch rather loose. I can tighten it up but worry I might be doing something wrong. It doesn't look like the other stiches CO either as it has two loops on the bottom of it.

  • @saprater25 If you cast on like in the video you're using both the tail and the ball. At the end of the cast on row both ends will be at the just finished end of the work. If the tail you have left is too long you can always snip it off to be just long enough to sew in :)

If you're using 2 needles to cast on then you must cast on with the ball end or you'll be left at the end of the first row with nothing but the tail to knit with :( Have a look at my site for a video on 2needle cast on.

  • Why is it when im finished the wool attacched to the ball is still at the beginning with the slipknot, and the tail end is at the end?.. I think both strings are suppose to be all together?

  • @flamingice123 Not sure what you're doing wrong but, yes, both ends should be together when you've cast on all the stitches you want. It sounds like you're making some kind of stitch but only using the tail end rather than both strands at the same time.

  • Thank you!!! very clear and helpful:)

  • Ahaha. I did it! x,D

  • so when you create a stitch do you pick up the wool with the side of you thumb between your other fingers or the other side

  • @fatdemon5623

I'm not sure how to explain any more clearly than with the video. Pick up the wool that's on your thumb from the side nearest to you, and then from the first finger, again with the side that's nearest you. If you follow along with the video and do exactly what I do it should become clear.

  • @fatdemon5623 It doesn't really matter how you pick up the wool, it doesn't matter which side of the fingers it is. What matters is which side of the NEELE it is. Pay attention to whether your yarn is in front of the needle or behind the needle. That depends on the stitch you are making. Hope that helps.

  • Thank you for your video. I learned to knit 20 years ago and forgot. Your video helped me to start knitting again.

  • Wtf :( i do exactly what she says an it doesnt do it it like gets all a massi e knot wtfff fff

  • What a relief! I always forget how to start and after looking through almost every video on the internet, I found yours! I'm totally bookmarking this because this is the easiest how to I've found! Thank you so much!

  • you explained this so much better than anyone else thank you!

  • Omgthank u so much no one know how to knit in my whole fam except my grandma only

    Now I know how to

  • YAY!! I finally cast on!!!! I'm so happy :p Now what do I do?

  • This is literally the FIRST video that I've watched that makes sense to me. I don't know why my brain has such a hard time with processes, but you made it very easy for me to understand the process. I'll likely have to watch it several times before I get it right. Thank you for this! I want to learn how to knit before the snow flies, so I have something relaxing to do on a 'Snow day'.

  • Thanks so much for this video!!! Best one on YT; easy to follow and see the technique

  • it's embarassing...i'm good at knitting, but this part always confuses me :P i never remember how :(

  • excellent this is the first knitting video that I found that I actually could understand and follow the intructions were clear and precise thank you

  • omg!!! thanks so much your a lifesaver!!! it was soo easy!! :)

  • you are brilliant! thank you for such wonderful instructions. you're my favorite on youtube :)

  • thank you soo much!!! i finally figured out how to do it!

  • thank you for refreshing my memory!

  • oh thank you sooo much, I was looking through all the different ways of casting on, but didn't manage to do any off them really precise, and I remember that my grandmother used to cast on using just one needle, so thank you, that's just it :))

  • This is nothing like what i use i just use my fingers like how cast showed me

  • Thank you, first time in all my years that I have ever cast on, and you made it easy!

  • I don't know whether it's because I'm a muscle memory learning kind of person, but I found it almost impossible to follow this. Couldn't do.

  • Thank you very much! Your video was very helpful and your accent is awesome!

  • Thank you for this video! Good instructions!

  • Oh My God! Im doing it! Thank you! Thank you very much! You are a great instructor indeed!

  • OMG thank you so much , i mean i've been looking like literally 8 videos already trying to teach me how to cast own but they were all confusing and too fast!

    yay! i did it !

btw , i love ur accent! lol

  • this is a great instructional video, thank you so much, its that i knew how to knit but i forgot to cast on

  • Thank You SO much! this video really helped me and it made something that was always really difficult for me super easy! Great video!

  • Wow thank you so much! Finally it's clear!

  • Thank you SO much! I've watched a ton of videos in order to learn the long-tail method, but your video is the first that was clear in the teaching. I can do it now! :)

  • it was a very good instruction video!!

but i just have one question... it is right that the tail end of the yarn be at the bottom of what i am knitting?? like say... i'm knitting a scarf and the bottom of the scarf holds the tail end of the yarn... is that correct or did i make a mistake?

  • @interstones

Yes, the tail end will be at the bottom of what you're knitting. It might be quite long so you could cut it off just leaving a few inches to sew in when you've finished the knitting.

    Hope that helps

  • @interstones i wout just cut it right to the knitting it doesnt matter if its there

  • Thank you so much! This was so helpful!

  • best.tutorial.ever!!!!!

thank you for making this vid.

    trying this out soon<3

  • thankyou so much, this video is really helpful

  • you sound a bit like my 3rd grade french teacher when she spoke english

  • This is a very clear and easy to understand video! It me the longest time to find a video I understood! Thanks for putting this up!

  • you are the only one on youtube that i can find that makes it easy to understand how to cast on so thank you very much for helping me and you had a wonderful video

  • I also would like to congratulate you on your method of teaching. Finally someone who shows the method slow enough that even I, with my bad eye sight, was able to follow and can now cast on with this method. Thankyou.
