They dont know but mathematical chance predicts a high probability of alien life, and scientists and biologists can make predictions of what the creatures could have in common or how they could be different from earth life. Eyes for example should be common since they evolved seperately in 4 different forms on earth. Feet and arms should be common too but the size and number depends on the lifestyle and habitat of the creature and the gravity of the planet.
