@joshoshie, be more attentive to what you're reading. Instead of choosing profanity. It was a carry-on of the @Richard Eldon cheap shots a Dean Martin 1st off. Secondly the less than super acting was in no way directed at John Wayne, but Angie Dickinson really was less than super that's it. Everyone else was A1. I don't have any more time to ask you to be nice I'll just hit my knees and pray for ya. That's better than a war of words. Good-bye.
As to the cast, song and setting it's A 1. I really am an Action / Drama type not country western. But i do have 2 favorites This one here I've watched like 30 times for this particular reason. Then open range came along, I've seen that like 6 times and counting. Although Rio Bravo lacks the superb acting this scence's second to none.
@ber7961 WTF?? so you have seen Open Range a couple of times now you think you can run John Wayne down. You would be the first person on this planet to put Open Range and superb acting in the same sentance. Although R.Duvall is A1 in any movie. I don't think your an idiot just misinformed. You want superb acting try Lonsome dove every big name from hollywood is in there it kicks ass. Open range superb acting...... nah hang on you are a fucking idiot
@Richard Eldon, your priorities are in the $hitter and you're direction-less for where you fit in !
Even the good Lord is looking down on you shaking his head, in disbelief wondering if he was having a bad day! Wow , do you have a meaningful purpose in life ? Or are you just scum that society looks to rid itself of ? If we pray for people like you we show our creator the good in us . I personally find it quite challenging to direct a prayer in your direction. So I have work to do. Good-bye !
Rio Bravo MY FAVORITE western Ricky Nelson Dean Martin John Wayne and Walter Brennan oh they were the greatest men in entertainment and then some butt head crap talks one of them SHAME ON YOU BUTT HEAD!!!!!!
What would have been so neat, if Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson, and Elvis could have done a song together, Elvis loved Dean's voice and Ricky admired Elvis that would have been awesome matter afact Elvis did sing Everybody Love Somebody All the Time one time in Vegas, but no recording of it is around that nobody knows of.
Could listen to Dean Martin singing all day, and Ricky Nelsons voice is so chocolatey (thought that was a nice way to describe the delicious smoothness of his voice) :)
Young Nelson must have been in his glory to be singing and providing the music for a living legend like Dino. Kid did a nice job, too! Great movie. Too bad Ward got killed off early.......last movie he and best friend Duke ever did! KP
The fact that you feel the need to respond to such a pointless and unintelligent comment, simply places you in the same category of insulence and stupidity my dear.

My favourite scene from my favourite John Wayne film.. Also, one of my favourite Dean Martin songs.. Beautiful-beautiful performance. Makes me want to bust out my guitar, light up a cigarette, go side outside in the sun, and just play
Love this! Thanks for posting. We saw this for the first time a few weeks ago and recognized the melody right away from 'Red River'. What an awesome idea to have 2 such wonderful voices duet on this. H. Hawks & D. Tiomkin= genius.
The best duet ever. I could listen to that song all day. Wish they did an album. I wish Dean was still around to sing to us and make us laugh. What a great guy.
You're right they're a joy to listen to, I wish they were both still around. I had my first crush on Ricky Nelson when I was a young teenager. I still have all his records. Isn't YouTube wonderful? It lets us see our heroes just by pressing a few keys:)
This film is pretty slow moving compared to what we have today...but still it's one of my favorites. Dean does an excellent job of acting...he's trying to quit the bottle.
And you can see Wayne and Martin must have liked one another.
Well you managed to get a reaction out of me and I hope you are, for the moment, happy...Now you can go back to your pathetic, most likely lonely life where you hand is your only friend and lover if you get my drift
Typically, I wouldn't even post a response to an idiot. Dean Martin was my Uncle and I take offense to your remarks. What a sad pathetic life you must live Richard Eldon. You sound like a guy that has had a miserable life so wishing you one would be pointless. You probably sit around on the computer making foolish statements to get a reaction because you are a very lonely man.

Dean Martin in a western? Pretty believable. That jailhouse set looks as phony as the Duke's toupee. They don't make 'em like this anymore, thank God.
This movie is one of the top Westerns .It had such an impact when it was released, one of the kids next door when I was a kid was named "JOHN T. " after DUKE WAYNE'S part!!
One of the all-time classics-John Huston`s straight-forward western Rio Bravo. Dean Martin as the drunk sheriff, young Ricky Nelson and John Wayne(and a young hot Angie Dickinson). How many times I watched it as a child and still always like to come back to it.
And how wonderful this romantic cowboy tune is performed-my pony, my rifle and me
@RogerHWerner Oh boy that is embarassing-of course Howard Hawks-why did I mix up the names-I love Rio Bravo and El Dorado and had been watching both many times since my childhood days and know it´s Hawks- of course-you`re to kind-it is not a minor point-even though both directors were great I believe-thanks for correction
Hawks & Huston both worked extensively with Wayne and each directed his finest performances: Huston=The Searchers & Hawks=Red River. Rio Bravo too is an American classic. Interesting it was panned when issued but then it took 20 years for The Searchers to be recognized a fabulous film, in the same category as Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon. Both Huston and Hawks are without question two of the finest directors of the western film genre.
Huston had nothing to do with The Searchers. Wayne & Huston worked on 1 film: The Barbarian and the Geisha. Wayne and Huston hated each other's politics and Wayne detested Huston's directorial style: They never worked together again. This film was the fourth in a row that failed to become a box office hit, so Wayne jumped at the chance to work with Howard Hawks on...Rio Bravo, which was Hawks' and Wayne's response to High Noon and 3:10 To Yma, films both man detested.

Out of Dean's tremendous body of work, I think this song best illustrates his easy way with a song. It's all here: The rich baritone, lilting vibrato, playful sense of melody, all delivered "effortlessly".
@animi991... It wasn't posted to cause an argument you halfwit it was a bit of humour your dumbass comment meant that I had to post a reply & as I posted earlier shit for brains there's one born every minute & it had to be you..... :)
@anime991, I'm aware that Elvis never played in Rio Bravo. I posted it to get a response from some fucking halfwit & it had to be you there's one born every minute you know an Imbecile you tool,.. :)
@thetruebrit85 how desperate does one have to be to post a retarded comment just to get the gratification of an argument with someone he/she doesn't know? i suggest troll that you get a life and grow up.
@anime991, yes I'm well aware of that I only posted that as I knew some Imbecile would respond as you did you fucking tool, theres one born every minute a gobshite just like you,..... :)
I loved Rick Nelson when I was a teenager but Dino had an awesome voice and he stole this movie. I have the DVD but still watch it when it comes on TV. The theme at the beginning (when they are in the saloon after Joe Burdette) is actually The Ballad of Black Gold from Blowin' Wild. Another Dimitri Tiomkin score.
Hey everyone. I'm sorry if anything rude was said to anyone. My acoount wasn't under my control for a while now. It was hacked and I just got it back today. I send my apologies if anyone was offended I erased alot of the hateful comments. Again I'm sooo sorry. Sincerely, Ashley
Also the musical theme of John Wayne's Red River soundtrack! This is such a funny movie!

Out of Dean's tremendous body of work, I think this song best illustrates his easy way with a song. It's all here: The rich baritone, lilting vibrato, playful sense of melody, all delivered "effortlessly".

If I was making a movie and I had Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson in it, you can be damned sure I would find a way for them to sing it.
