Hey that looks cool. With the "tentacle" (I see it more as a vine myself) when it breaks through the wall should have some of the wall fall down.

Like I said,I used a curve modefier. Tentacle->Bezier Curve.

And then I move the tentacle,in some direction:)

I used Bezier curves,and the curve modefier.Then just animate the thing moving in the Z,or X,or Y direction and Blender will do the ,the real hard work as ever.
