@gofft1355 - It's just an A7 - must have been a slip of the toungue by Dave because he says it properly later - however, he did leave out the very important Esus right before the E chord.
@gofft1355 It is a A maj. 7th. My fingers get in the way making it look like a A min. 7th. Not sure what Gofft 1355 is talking about on the E sus.????? If he comes back on, I hope he tells me.
@americanrides Hi Dave, first off, you did fine with this vid, but @gofft1355 is correct. There is a Esus in the song. In the line "(Bm) See the man with (esus4)lonely (Emajor) eyes.. It repeats in the subsequent . At any rate, it is a nice transitional chord, and gives a nice feel to the song. I know as accomplished as you are, you probably know how e-sus in the first position works, but for those who do not. It's an e major chord, with the pinky on the g string. Give it a try!
@dt1142559 I will do my best, but I have been bogged down, computer crashed, just got it back, put an extra hard drive in and bought a recording studio that is impossible to figure out, its taking up all my time right now. I will do what I can, ok?
@mindbodydr Thanks, but I think its just me. I have gotten a few good tips and was able to at least make some sound come out of it. My cousin is coming back into town tonight from Boston and he is an expert, thank God! If I do get it figured out, I am definitely putting up an easy tutorial on Youtube so other folks don't have to go through this hell!
very good vid easy to follow well done who cares if your voice is slightly off music is all about enjoyment and if your happy and someone else gets something from it then thats all that counts keep up the good work fella
You mean the ceiling fan? Nah, it's silent. I'm not sure what that is, I hear it too. I do live on a highway, and there is always so much noise outside. I try to shut the windows, etc. when I do this stuff to limit it, but sometimes stuff gets through. I did it so long ago, I am just not sure what it could be. Thanks man! Dave
Dave! Don't worry about not being a Celine Dion or something. It seems you are pulling back or trying to be overly "soft" with your voice because you are not very confident about it. Don't worry about your vocal "styling", just concentrate on hitting the right pitch (and note), and let it out bro! It will sound better than trying to pull-it back. I learned how to play "Give A little Bit" today from you!
Your vocal sounds fine. I have taken the vocal down an octave for some Really High Songs that I sing (Steve Perry, AC/DC, Bon Jovi and some others..... the way you sang at the end.... just sing it in that octave for the whole song. It works suprisingly well.... mind you these are some of the highest singers in the world.
Your 12-string sounds amazing.
I have an Epiphone Double Neck -- I will be playing that tune on the 12-string neck now.
All I can say is WOW! And thank you. This is the easiest version on youtube to learn. Only been playing about 6 months and your video got me to play it. Thanks again. BTW - I am a 53 year old Classic Rock and Super Floyd fan.
Oh, thats an easy one. Just play the regular D chord fingering, on the 14th fret. Your 12th fret is the same as your open strings, an octave higher, if you lay your finger all the way across the 12th fret, you will have E,A,D,G,B,E, just an octave higher. So theoretically, you can play any open chord after the 12th fret. Such as an open A chord, just finger the same notes, but on the 14th fret. Play the same way, just mute the low E string as usual.
And, when they slide that D, up the neck at the end, still use that D, fingering on the 7th fret, then the 9th fret, then back down to the 7th, then back down to the regular D on the 2nd fret.
I sure hope that helped! If you are confused on any of this, please feel free to write me personally, I will help as much as I can, thats why I do this stuff!
Thanks for writing!!! P.S Check out some of my other tunes also, I have some Floyd up, James Taylor and John Prine. Thanks! Dave
Thank you!! It is a Washburn, I only paid 300.00 dollars for it. It stays in tune forever, I never have to re tune it! If you live near Chicago, go see Ree Teeter at R.T guitars in Crestwood (south side) he makes and sells his own guitars as well as name brands. Very reasonable and cool guy! Hope that helps! Take care, Dave
Hmmm, good question. I just lent it to my cousin yesterday, I will have to get back to you on that! It does sound pretty nice for a 350.00 dollar axe. It stays in tune VERY well which surprises me for a 12 string. Thanks for the cool comment, I surely appreciate it! Remember, I have 14 videos up, lots of Pink Floyd too! Take care, Dave the guitar guy
Dave, ..great job...I wish they had this 30 years ago..I am so far away from where I should be....I cant believe how cool and easy this song is....great job....beginners are very lucky to have good people like you...Im impressed...thanks again for your time.....
I think my ship has passed on the singing...lol But, again, my only hope is to teach cool tunes to beginners on the guitsr! Thanks for writing!!! Dave
I get that request all the time. I am sorry but have no idea how I could teach that. All I can say is keep practicing, you WILL get it, I promise!!! Take care, Dave
Hi,no problem its the instumental part after about 90 seconds into the song, i've tried to figure it out myself, the chords could be F#m Bm F#m Bm F#m G C G A7,it sounded ok to me but i it be wrong.Great vid anyway.
Gotcha, ya, there sounds like a lot going on in that part, so, I haven't figured it out. I will try your chords and see how they sound. Thanks for the feedback! Happy Thanksgiving! Dave
LOL, no problem. It's hard to make people understand I am only trying to teach beginners cool tunes that they can play. The singing is just a nasty bi product of keeping up with where the fingers are supposed to be at the time. I am starting to feel a little better after a bad bout with some strange illness, so, I will be posting more tunes soon. Thanks again for writing, I do appreciate all comments, good and bad :) Cheers,
Great job Dave. Could you explain how you do the walk up from E to G after the Bm? I just can't get it - maybe because I can't hold the G like you are.
Well, all I'm doing is playing one finger on the E string, on the F# note. You can play the G any way you feel comfortable, I just play it like that because its easier for me to get where I need to go. I hope that helped a little. Thanks for writing! Have a great Halloween!
Excellent Guitar Playing (you are right, it sound brilliant on a twelve string) ~ You play it slightly different than me ~ I enjoyed your version ~ Well done Dave ~ Greeting from England ~ Geoff
Thanks a ton Dave, wife and I just started learning guitar 6 wks ago. I have watched this video (over and over again) for the last hour + and now have it (basically) but after the sliding D section you state that there is a "C formation" but it doesn't look or sound like a "C" so can you help there [around 1:17 in the video] Also thanks to the clarification below on the A7th section. Again, much appreciated.
Cool, you have a jam partner! You watched my ugly mug for an hour? Poor guy! It's not really a C, heres what you do, second finger goes on the A string, 3rd fret. Thats a C note. First finger goes on the D string, second fret, thats an E note. third finger goes on the B string, 3rd fret, thats a D note. Once you play it a few times, you may recognize it from other songs. The next move is to remove the second finger from the C note and use your first finger on the A string on the second fret.
So, you are playing two chords "walking" down. After those two, you go back to the D chord. I hope that makes sense. If not, please write to my personal mail and I can help further, here, I only have so many characters to write with. Thanks!! Dave
Nice job Dave! Your right...you can't sing, but you still sing better that I do. LOL!! Your 12 string (although a low end by standards) sounds really good, better than my 6 string. The lesson was great although I did lose you after you were chording a single string for the A7 and then you place your finger here...where's here? Then the third finger here....?? Maybe you can lend a hand, I mean a finger for what frets and strings to go on. Thanks for your posting. Love that song! Chris
The first finger is on the D string, second fret, next, 3rd finger on the B 2nd fret (making the A 7th) then, slide 3rd finger up one fret, then, slide that formation up two frets and thats it. Dave
Dude, I have said 1,000 times, I am here to teach guitar not sing, if you want a performance, go buy a Supertramp concert ticket. There are lot's of hams on here who like to "perform". Maybe look them up, OK?
Thanks, he has a high voice and I have been smoking too long! I just like playing, I wish I had someone to do the singing parts, then, I might actually try to preform. This is just instructional for the guitarists to get the guitar parts down. Thanks though, I do appreciate the comment! Dave
OK I've look at about 5 or 6 sites on YOUTUBE and this is the best. You talk through it and show the chords, and yes your singing is better than the others too! Nice to see you use the twelve string.
OK, I believed you until you said I sing OK....lol Glad you got some use from it, don't forget to check out the others... americanrides. I have been so busy with projects, but I think I will get some new ones up here soon! Thanks man!!! Dave

Hi again, question: How do you make that "D-Octave"? I can't figure that one out.
ArtMan659 2 years ago
Oh, thats an easy one. Just play the regular D chord fingering, on the 14th fret. Your 12th fret is the same as your open strings, an octave higher, if you lay your finger all the way across the 12th fret, you will have E,A,D,G,B,E, just an octave higher. So theoretically, you can play any open chord after the 12th fret. Such as an open A chord, just finger the same notes, but on the 14th fret. Play the same way, just mute the low E string as usual.
americanrides 2 years ago
And, when they slide that D, up the neck at the end, still use that D, fingering on the 7th fret, then the 9th fret, then back down to the 7th, then back down to the regular D on the 2nd fret.
I sure hope that helped! If you are confused on any of this, please feel free to write me personally, I will help as much as I can, thats why I do this stuff!
Thanks for writing!!! P.S Check out some of my other tunes also, I have some Floyd up, James Taylor and John Prine. Thanks! Dave

Dave

I play 6 string guitar and this makes me want to try 12 string. Your singing was not that bad.
