  • i just realized this concert was in october,

george hasnt passed away yet untill a month later

he was also a huge loss of 2001

  • Paul will always kick ass

  • Age has affected his voice. It's clearly not the same. But it's still HIS voice, and he STILL kicks ass.. LOVE YA, PAUL! :)

  • @bckm54 this was 10 years ago as well. He's still a very good singer, just different

  • Whose that on guitar?

  • @chevick Rusty Anderson. He is currently in Paul's band. This concert was his "audition". Abe Laboriel, Jr is on drums.

  • not only can Paul organize an entire charity concert and look amazingly handsome for an almost 60 year old at the time, but he can sing and play bass like no other ever has. One of the greatest voices in rock history, yet a beautiful ballad singer as well; and an incredible songwriter and multi instrumentalist as well.- what CANT that man do?

  • thanks for such an uplifting song, Paul

  • McCartney recorded these two songs on the same day in 1965 - versatility or what?

  • @PaulStaveley GENIUS!

  • 1:35 Keyboard player :P lol

  • @FlameClaw2 yea he looks like he's attacking the keys or something huh lol?

  • Looks like he just got out his bed.

  • I miss them.

  • I live half an hour away from Liverpool.Yeh, I was being sarcastic.

  • Comment removed

  • NOBODY can rock that song like Paul can, especially nobody his age

  • After the end of the second verse he usually say "Light me up John" not this time ;(

  • Don't you realize this guy is a LEGEND!!!! He changed music forever! What a sweet guy he is too, so down to earth. Paul, you have been in our hearts since we were children! Got to love this man.

  • @willieIII Thanks! I will.

  • You could tell he was about to lose it at the end.....I know he's been a superstar for going on 50 years years, but once he was just a kid, with a guitar, and a dream.

  • rememberance the beatles

  • I love Abe on the drums

  • Yesterday with only strings? ... EPIC!

  • who is on keys? it isn't Wix.

  • Nothing can ever equal the Beatles- or even a Beatle. Paul rocks!

  • us british just dont realise how much of a legend this guy is, respect paul. so talented, and down to earth.

  • Does anybody know who the drummer is beating the daylights out of those defenseless drums ? ? Holy smoke ! ! !

  • @drandall1776 Abe Laboriel Jr. is the drummer- he also drums for Eric Clapton sometimes

  • @QueenBeatlesWings do you know if he happens to drum for Fogerty from time to time as well? when I saw him in Toronto I could've sworn that was the drummer.

  • @tokestAr420 I don't think so. Laboriel has also recorded and performed with Sting& Sting's touring band,Crystal Lewis, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Les Paul, Ashlee Simpson, LeAnn Rimes, Vanaz, Mylène Farmer, Letters to Cleo, Kelly Clarkson, Lady GaGa Steve Vai,the band 'Seal",Robi Draco Rosa Lewis,Marc Ribot, David Stone, Glenn Patscha, Me'Shell NdegeOcello, Oren Bloedow, Yuka Honda, and the legendary Van Dyke Parks, and McCartney. check Foggerty's wikipedia article or DVD credits

  • Paul is rocks!!! great PERFORMANCE!!!!

  • paul looks like he just got out of bed lol

  • My God. I wouldn't sing either if I were in that crowd during Yesterday. I would stand in awe, just as they.

  • the guitarist is not joe perry : ) but still gave justice to the song... Long live the Beatles man their music still rock!! Paul such a great singer.

  • ¡Increíble Sir Paul!

  • A Timeless gift to the human race.

  • is that guitarist joe perry?

  • @jsmerf541 No its Rusty Anderson, lead guitarist in Pauls band.

  • Love that drummer! He's great!

  • it doesnt sound the same as when he did it with the beatles for 2 reasons:

    1. his voice doesnt sound the same

    2. ringos not playing drums and george and john arent harmonising, so it sounds really weird to me

  • @1995Sian give him a break- Paul''s almost 70 years old. He still sounds great if yu ask me, and his 1st Wings band was better since it had Moody Blues guitarist Denny Laine, but Laine left to do his own thing- so its not paul's fault.

  • @4FabBEATLES geez louise....all i was sayin is that it sounds weird to me, cuz the only version i've heard till now was the original.....god sake!

  • "I'm Down" seems an odd choice for the occasion. It is not a signature song for McCartney by any means. It is a little known song (the B-side of "Help"). The audience of firefighters and first responders are "down." He doesn't have to keep singing it. The McCartney catalog is so deep; he couldn't have sung another song? Interestingly, however, "I'm Down" was recorded the same day as "Yesterday" in 1965 (two very different songs, indeed). Maybe, that explains the pairing.

  • @Doleafol he had to play Beatles stuff too- thats what people want sadly. plus, it fits, the words Im Down means Im sad, but he doesn't want the whole show to be sad- its sad enough- he needed ot give everyone a break.

  • Damn he can still rock!!! I have to see him in concert before he retires!!!

  • @jtoshawa yes, there was rumor paul would retire after finsihing the tour he's on- but Paul denied the rumor saying he'd keep playing live as long as possible.

  • @4FabBEATLES I´m expecting to go to his concerts even when he is 90

  • FANTASTIC

  • paul and just his eyes closed and snapping his finger, talk about being naked

  • Surely a breeze for for Mr. Paul...

  • Very few people could write two songs so different. And one of them used to be in the same band. God that Beatles fucking kicked ass.

  • good for you.

  • That's your problem.

  • @badtown88 He didnt write Im down

  • @keithjc22

Uhh yes he most certainly did.

  • @badtown88 yes, the drummer Abe, and guitarist Rusty played together before

  • @badtown88 : you fucked kicking ass the beatles was the greatest band in the world. Paul McCartney was from the beatles and he is singing songs from the beatles

  • @aryowailangitoyo97

Learn English or don't bother leaving youtube comments in the language.

  • @badtown88 And who the hell do you think you are? Whoever that is made a point in the best way he could. You, on the other hand are a jackass with terrible English grammar.

  • @aryowailangitoyo97 which band was he in?

  • @morsimaniman : the beatles, you dont know?. with john lennon and ringo starr and george harrison. legends man?!

  • @morsimaniman Paul was 1/4 of the greatest beat combo in the world and 1/2 of the greatest songwriting team of the 20th century.....

  • @morsimaniman BTW, Yesterday is the most covered song in music history, with over 3000 recorded versions..it is the greatest ballad ever written.

  • @morsimaniman lolololol...can't believe that some people thought you were serious

  • @morsimaniman wow... how do u not know that. the beatles, the best band of the 20'th century

  • @badtown88 the beatles were so good that every album was essentially a greatest hits playlist. the beatles in a way ruined rock. They took all the best ideas and by 1970 everyone else was doing their best to scavage whatever else you could do with the rock formula.

  • @badtown88 :) these songs were recorded on the same day (on 14 June 1965), Yesterday after the throat-killer I'm Down :D

  • @badtown88 Did you know that both songs were recorded the same session, the very same day, together with a third, yet very different song (I've Just Seen A Face), all written by the exact same guy. Amazing, huh? :)

  • @badtown88 Yesterday was a beatle song too.

  • 0:02 "Doooooo." LOL! Macca Must have watched Stevie Rik's videos

  • drumer is good! what is his name?

  • Abe Laboriel Jr, i think...

  • Yes, I like his drummer, too. Great musician.

  • The Original Rock God !!

  • He sounds great.

  • he almost looks lost without his guitar

  • I think he is lost

  • I think that was the idea, to make him look more vulnerable, and to speak to the last normal day on earth: my 46th birthday (9/10/01).

  • oh god, his voice sounds horrible compared to the 60's. his voice was literally god. faul is very good.

  • PAUL IS ALIVE! THERE IS NO FAUL!

  • Remember Macca is the one who organized this concert for New York. So I'm cheering him for doing such a great job!!!

  • I remember watching this concert the first time and thinking how great it was to see people getting down (no pun intended) in the audience. Yes, it was a memorial concert, but it was also about hope and celebrating life, and they really needed a fun, energetic performance to bring that home. No one else but Paul could've done that.

  • after all these years his voice is still beautiful...

  • paulie lindo paulie

  • I thino The Who stole this show

  • i love paul, remember this concert when it was on tv. can never forget it. i think paul shouldve used ringos son to play drums even though he was playing with the who in this concert already, but love the performance anyway.

  • he should use Ringo and Zak togheter and the guitarist should've been Dhani Harisson and the keyboardist should be Sean Lennon and Julian emmmmmmmm i dunno maybe he'll fit somewhere

  • i just love pauls presence it's awesome and you know what he pulled it off just violins and keyboards it wasA-W-E-S-O-M-E

  • Good singing, Paul.

  • God bless the U.S.A., U.K. and Paul.

  • Marvelous. Both sides.

  • This drummer is so great. The best Paul have had after The Beatles. Ringo is unique, but this drummer i love. I am a white man from germany

  • Who's the lad on keyboards? Where's Wix?

  • Paul looked GREAT here, sounded great too. I loved seeing the firefighters, the policemen and their families and friends having a great time!

  • "I'm Down" great song done well, but can't beat the Shea Stadium version.Check it out best live song by the Beatles ever.

  • August 15 1965.

It msut be the best concert in history.

  • Would have loved to be there that day August 15 1965.They talk about history in the making sometimes you know that day, sometimes you look back and don't realise you were actually part of it.

  • Yes.... I can't hear "I'm Down" without thinking of John destroying that Vox keyboard lol! I read where he broke one of the keys right off during that performance :)

  • he pretty much sounds like he did in 1965 when he first did this song. wow!

  • Everyone who love the music of this time should be happy, to see PMC, without him and John Lennon we don`t have our music today. I am so happy that Paul still is on tour and makes new records. He is the Mozart of the 20 th century.

  • His voice has not changed-

  • Jesus Christ, what's the drummers name - Tiny?

  • puts the song into a whole new perspective

  • When he started singing yesterday I started crying.

    :(

    Such an amazing performance!

  • should he have sang im down right after 9-11...lol just saying

  • yeah beacuse i think everyone was fucking down after those event.

  • I love the keyboardist.

He plays like he's have a seizure.

    Fantastic.

  • i love you paul ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

  • paul rules but where the guitar but hey this perfromece still rocks

  • omg this is great...he still rocks...wonderful...I LOVE YOU MACCA!!! ^^

  • Wow. His rendition of Yesterday is so fitting of a 9/11 concert.

His voice seems to bleed authenticity. Paul truly loves America, and truly was hurt on 9/11 and this performance shows that.

  • who's on keys?

  • Paul Your Still 30 in our hearts! :)

  • @Rainsfallingup

Well, he PERFORMS live like he's still 30, so let's say he is,

  • I love I'm Down, and I agree that he should be performing it right now. His setlist is too Beatle heavy these days, he needs to perform much more Wings and solo material.

I love Rusty Andersons lead guitar playing, he's proven to be great in McCartneys current band!

  • I'm Down is a Beatles song: "B" side of "Help" 1965.

  • Yeah i agree but most ppl prefer listen only Beatles songs. Some of them even never hear Wings!!!

I*ve read his setlists made managers relying on ppl*s wishes.

F.e. in Ukraine as i know there was public opinion poll and most of them chosed Beatles songs.

  • Man, Paul was great, but everyone else fucked it up! Seriously, it isn't a death metal song, so why try to turn it into one?

  • Well, the guy on the drums was fine.

  • metal? death metal? This is simple rock´n´roll, plus the best drummer McCartney ever had.

  • No, what I mean is that all the other musicians were playing this song like metal. Also, the best drummer he ever had was Ringo.

  • McCartney Rocks! Have a good easter

    You're biggest fan

  • In my youth I had a rock n' roll band with a great rock singer. I always remember talking to him about the Beatles and I once said I had read an article where John Lennon, my favorite Beatle, had always thought his voice inedequate and how I found that nuts because he was sooooo good. Well, Tim, our lead singer, put it very succinctly. He said how can he feel good about his voice when hes got Mr. Smoothy (McCartney) right next to him. He's still Mr. Smoothy and hes got so much class it kills me.

  • Thanks for this upload-great song! Great spirit of helping and caring for our nation and its survivors of 9/11. Bless all bands that came together (free) to play that day.

  • paul is still good as fuck, i will admit that hands down, but it's just not the same without the other beatles. the guy playing john's position SUCKS

  • you're right, a gothic guitarist, georges music was much better! and the background vocals sucks! but because its paul, it sounds great too!

  • so true! but now that i reread my message, i feel like crying kuz i wish john was alive to play with paul... i just wish someone kud've died instead of john, john didn't deserve such an early death... :(:(:(

  • no one deserve such an early death, don't you think? this concert was for NYC, after 9-11. nobody there deserved such an early death!

and about the music of the guitarist, his solo and his background vocals are too many heavy metal like, but it have to be rock & roll! the beatles could do that, this band not. but what I said, because it's paul it sounds good, he's one of the greatest musicians ever!

  • RIGHT ON TARGET U ARE, MY FRIEND! :-)

  • I've seen Paul 6 times!! He never forgets to surprise you with a song or two. He always remembers to Rock and Roll. Bless his soul...and bless John's soul, too!

  • Great song, but it's kinda terrible to see him doing this without the other beatles...

  • I love how Abe makes the drums bounce on the last chorus.

  • he was probably singing Yesterday to Linda

  • the song is about his mother.

  • the keyboardist is hardcore!!!

  • George Harrison make the best I'm Down Solo.

  • PLEASE sing on next tour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • guitar solo was awful, the rest was great.

  • Your right, the solo was terrible.

  • You mean the organ solo? Not terrible at all, it's just not John!

  • I thought the organ solo was just fine, but the guitar solo for I'm Down was not my taste at all. Wish George could've been there for that! :D

  • He really should sing "I'm Down" more often, it's one of his best rockers from the early days.

  • I agree.

  • I know right and he still can rock out with that song!

  • great song

  • im down is the better song of the beatles!!!!y lo bueno q aqui paul toca para ayudar a new york..perfecto!!!
