OUTSTANDING TUNE....back when bands could play, not the crap out nowadays. I would like to see these ole folks get in an arena with these wannabes and have it out. what a bloodbath it would be.........assholes and elbows. Young musicians zero, old hippies win! Hooray!
I always thought the "yep yep" sounded like Papa John's voice....if I remember correctly, the estended version on the Loves You box set did not have the "yep yep" in it...
One of the all-time great rock attitude songs - I'd listen to this over "Layla" or "Stairway to Heaven" any day. This recording is so alive. Jorma's singing and playing on this song is iconic - some of the best wah-wah pedal work ever done. Jack's huge tone on bass makes my marrow quiver with excitement. Joey Covington's high point with JA, also. Who's on piano, I forgot - Nicky Hopkins or Grace Slick? Even Paul Kantner is cool here on rhythm guitar (and I really can't stand him).
sorry to seem like an idiot, i guess i need to get some "fucking brains" as you put it. i've never heard of that instrument. my bad. i guess most people aren't the musical genius you are :)
Its called a goiro but are you sure its not a tape loop of someone going yupp yuup because jorma said they used to take lsd and watch the toilet flush for hours .
@MCSin2007 dude, ive been listening to music for years and if it is an instrument then its new to me..................................know it all douche
Yup you're right. If you listen to the demo you can hear someone going 'boom boom, yup yup'. You can hear what sounds like 2 more people singing the verse along with Jorma too!
@oldaxekid Yeah. I think part of it is the fact that no one really thinks about the post-Marty Balin era of the band and they don't really pay attention to the stuff that came out at that time.
Dedicating this song to ROB IVON....supreme bassist - Rock on baby....

The vocals remind me of Iggy Pop: delivered with a bit of a sneer!

The live version on Thirty Seconds Over Winterland is the best.

I'm surprised this album wasn't one of the Airplane's best sellers. Sure, Marty was gone, but it allowed Jorma to spread his wings.

According to Sammy Piazza (drummer from Hot Tuna), him and Michael Shrieve (of Santana) played drums on this song, not Joey.

exactly! a guiro is scrape-y sounding and high pitched. it sounds like Joey Covington saying 'Yep, yep'.

Somebody keeps singing yup yup in the background I guess thats their idea of country and western music [grace sounds like floyd cramer on the piano]
