Randy Newman wrote and originally did sing the song. A lot of the b & w photos of downtown Dayton were from the early 1900s since that what the song is about.

I thought this was originally a Randy Newman song! I was apparently mistaken.
I've always lived in Dayton and even I don't recognize where some of the black and white photos were taken.... Must have been a really long time ago.
