this would be a cool job but i do think after all the hard work to get to be a pilot you may find its not as quite as you thought it would be and the excitement of actually becoming it could maybe leave you feeling dissapointed when it comes to landing a job as a pilot. then again perhaps not. I was at Texas State Technical College training in their commercial pilot training program and was doing well until the Twin Towers attack happened. We were grounded for a long long time and the hiring of civilian pilots kind of stopped. It's never gonna be like old times. If you wanna be a com. pilot you have to start from an early age, do great in K-12th grade and join the military.

Like Southwest Im telling this to You as a fellow Pilot because airlines like British Airlines after 1 year You will probably be making around 30,000 dollars a year the next year double then when You work for them about 10 yrs 180,000 a yr.....
Compared to Southwest (which im not a big fan of either) but after 10 yrs with southwest and You are first officer You will be making around 300,000 a yr

I have wanted to become a commercial airline pilot since I was 8 I started playing Microsoft Flight Simulator X. and once i showed up FSX was completely worth it... All the Instructors know that I know how to fly and I am doing takeoffs and landings not to mention stall tests You have to start early in life... If You already have You should fly with a different airline....

So did follow this dream? They often say that it's not quite the same since 9/11, maybe, but I still enjoyed what little part I was in. Hope you go for it.
I would love to be a pilot however, I am not sure I would want to be a commercial pilot in passenger jets. I am affrade me and just sitting there not doing anything in a 10 hour flight would drive me batty. It could become like any job were to repet the same thing over and over. I would however like to fly cargo, or specialty plains. At least in cargo, you can move a bit more freely, don't have to cinch your door up tight the whole flight (last I knew). Would love fighter jets, I love speed.
Just go where your heart leads you...I did. I learned how to fly in High School and right after I was done I joined the Air Force; that was over 31 years ago. I've never looked back and don't regret a thing. Cheers!

Last July i failed a flying aptitude test for a FTO in Europe, but i'm determined to ignore what has happened, move on and never take NO for an answere. I'm hoping to start my PPL in 2009 and just build up. Initially i thought, that's it i'll never be anything and don't want to be anything if i can't be a pilot, but with the right mind set i know i can.
PilotjamesR, whether or not complete automation will take over the spot of a pilot, majority of the travelling public won't feel safe so to speak in the hands of computers. As well as this computers don't have the emotions that us humans have. It is still a possibility for the future, who would of thought a century ago we would ever be flying :P
there will always be a need for humans on aircraft, simply because computers will get things wrong, so we will rely on them and then they will rely on them...a 747 won't turn into a monorail with no pilot. I hope so anyway, but a good point made.
People told me that since I was bad at math I'd never be a pilot, they said I might as well start thinking of a new career path.Stuff like that always used to put me down at accomplishing my dreams but I rose above it and followed my heart. And guess what? in 2 more weeks I will be receiving my private pilots certificate. I am reaching what people told me I could not reach.

I've done my share of research concerning a proffesional pilot's career, I start my training in september, and I assure you, your physical condition is the only thing that can hold you from becoming a pilot.
