When first watching this, I could have sworn he was going to kiss her lips. And I was actually really glad when he didn't.

And then someone told me there was a deleted scene laying around... and it all makes sense.

I think it was very natural what they did have - the hug, the forehead kiss, the snuggle... It was so easy to read what was on their faces and what each gesture meant. It looked incredibly real and so full of love. It fit them perfectly. A serious mouth kiss would have ruined it.

I agree. I don't think it fits with the sentiment of the scene. It was him offering comfort after the loss of Scully's fellow abductee, not a romantic scene. It comes off as more than a friend comforting a friend thanks to how close the characters are, but it's not a romantic scene.

Exactly. This kiss, while cute in it's own regards, was too early and seemed to imply more. It's best leaving them as best friends. At that moment in their lives, anyway.

I KNEW there was more to that scene!! When this first aired I watched it over and over - backwards and forwards. No kidding. I was quite..."focused" with the xfiles in Jr. high. ;-)

I'm glad Chris left it out myself. I really didn't like the Millenium kiss being the first one. It should have been more like the hallway kiss that didn't happen. I think it should have been romantic at one of their apartments, because that's how it would happen in cases like this, or at least a pop kiss in the Xfiles office. Those two are a place we all would have wanted it to happen, not in the middle of a hospital. Also, Mulder wouldn't have done it when she was that sick anyway. Just me...

Wow, I can't believe I've never seen this. After all I spent a good seven years of my life being an all out X Files fanatical shipper freak! I agree that this shoulda been left in. I think CC should have done a whole bunch a things different with the relationship. I used to work for one of his close friends and I would always be like, "Tell Chris he needs to have one good kiss!" or "Tell him to read some fanfic for ideas!" LOL I seriously don't think my boss ever told him anything. Jerk!

I think CC could have kept the kiss and it wouldn't have changed much. I don't see it as a romantic kiss. It's not much different than him kissing her on the forehead. It's just a sweet and loving gesture.

Shoulda kept it, man. it wasn't enough to cut down on the sexual tension. Actually, I think it would have kicked it up a notch for those of us that wanted to see them together. But CC is nothing if not well-versed in romantic restraint. And to be honest, that's half of what made the show my favorite.

X-files started when I was 16 & it ended when I was almost 26. I have not yet seen all seasons so I am catching up.I think that 1of the reasons of the show's success was because of the 2 agent's indistinct relationship.However,the kiss was light & short & it can be mistaken as a kiss between 2 close friends that says: "I am glad that you are alive. "I have to agree that it should not be deleted from the aired episode to keep the audience bowled.

I´ve seen this scene with Chris Carter commenting it. He said that David and Gillian initiated the kiss by themselves but Carter didn´t want it to air, because he thought, that Mulder and Scully needed more time to reach the point to procede with their relationship. I actually think, that I have that scene on DVD in one of my collector´s boxes...

And i cant comment on the scripted/unscripted but the copy of the momento mori script ive seen only has the forehead kiss mentioned. However, could of been amended after shooting... Ive never even seen this kiss mentioned before i obtained it so, you have a right to be skeptical lol

A) Well, not nessacarily, she would probaly have gone along with it for the sake of the take, and its possible that it was discussed on set before hand which would also ansewr b).

C) Well, major fox show, cult following, they wouldnt throw it away... And this is from a video rip containing other similar quality deleted/extended scenes, but this is the only one that ive never seen elsewhere. There's also some candid footage on the tape that would suggest the video belonged to a crew member
