Helen is one of those children that the parents spoil because they think that there is something wrong with them. There is nothing wrong with her. She needs a different way to learn.  A different approach is needed for children like Helen. They need a different discipline. To spoil a child like her is no different than to spoil a child with no hearing, seeing, or speech impairments. Helen has a brain. She needed to learn how to use it without harming others.

It's a shame that the fame and glory she deserves for her remarkable acting is wasted on actors/actresses that are only popular due to their family name, outward appearance and the chance that they were cast as a popular character for a book-to-film series. I know exactly how Ms. Sullivan feels. I work with autistic kids, and have also worked with some that are blind or deaf. Getting them to do seemingly simple things like that can be very frustrating. I've had several kids who would fling their spoons away like Helen did.
