Because the center-right was the PC party, which merged with the Alliance (atleast at the federal level) leaving the only central option to be the Liberals as the NDP and Green parties are both left wing and the new Conservative party is no where near center as the PC's were because the Alliance somehow managed to get a stranglehold on the federal party. Hence having the dumbass in the PM chair right now.
just becuse the NDP is (relatively speaking) more left than the liberals, it doesn't mean that the liberals aren't left wing. The liberals are centre-left, the conservatives are centre-right.
you have to look at this realistically, can't just assume that because youre a liberal, you're central thinking...
and trust me, the PM isn't a "dumbass"... i know you think you can probably do things better.. (everyone does) but you dont become the prime ministed of Canada by being a "dumbass".. ;-)
I don't consider the Liberals due center, but center-left. However, with our current political spectrum on the federal level (ie. Green, NDP, Bloc, Alliance (aka Conservative)) They are the most central party. While the Conservative party theoretically is "centre-right" they are not.
Why did I call the PM a dumbass?
1. He thinks he is cerebral.
2. HE LOWERED TAXES IN AN ECONOMIC GOOD TIME! That is just plain stupid. When you have a good economy taxes should go up.
your #2 is basic liberal ideology. Taxes should never go up. Taxes is a burden on the economy.. Lowering it is always the rite thing..
No, sorry the liberals aren't the most centre party, that's just your opinion.. they're centre left. and I don't know why you keep calling the conservatives the alliance,, they're the conservatives now.
My girlfriends and i got stuck downtown with thos damn ginos that night! And to top it off cabs didnt want to drive us home since we'd only be a $25 fare when they can wait seconds for someone to come along that was a $60-$80 fare!
ompletely normal in South Korea, where the average employee works 2,357 hours per year--that's six-and-a-half hours for every single day of their life. According to a 2008 ranking by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, South Koreans work the longest hours per year
Bad Idea. Funding would be better. Here's a nifty trick: close off a section of downtown to force people to either use busses or subway so that 1, the downtown (esp. where the clubs are around Queen st.) is safer for pedestrians at night and so that people will learn to appreciate the transit which can be great when it's used effectively.
What if Toronto TTC no-warning-strike on these days: 1) Christmas Parade Day. 2) National / Provincial or City election Days. 3) Tornto is hosting Olympic Games, on the opening Ceremony Day. 4) Blue Jays, Maple Leafs or Raptors finale days. 5) Toronto is hosting some important International Convention Days. 6) St. Patrick Day. 7) July 1St, Canada Day..... Please act now, TTC is an essential service. TTC union workers don't like the idea, go and find other jobs. OR STRIKE AGAIN.
We're all lucky Mike Harris isn't in control. A decade of ol' Mikey telling everyone how we have to tighten our belts and slash services, and what did the Conservatives leave us with? A multi-billion dollar deficit.
There's a reason Mr. Harris high-tailed it for the Fraser Institute, and never came back.
But yeah, the TTC doesn't only need more funding,, it needs to be MUCH more efficient in its usage of money, stop over paying it's workers, maybe automate the system a little more and give riders more of a bang for their tax paying buck.
this is pretty bold. the unions dont like this but it's the best way to approach this.
Nicely done and I love that fact that really you took no side and spelled out that for the most part all levels of Gov. are f*cked and that really everyone only just looks after themselves and what is going to get them further ahead without ever having to commit to anything concrete.
Absolutely awesome, dude. And I must say, pacing (for someone familiar with the situation) added to the entertainment. I look forward to checking out the rest of your work.
Yeah definitely thin cos I saw Olivia and Jack in a small silver car (perhaps a chevy) turning left onto Harbord from Bathurst at 4:30pm on Saturday...
b) The mechanics weren't 'screwed over', they were trying to screw over the system by inflating costs and billing back manufacturers on unit on warranty
c) at 3:25 he incorrectly states that Miller in NDP
That last comment seems outdated now seeing as how Obama has diverted the US military resources away from Iraq to Afghanistan.

The liberals are centrists as much as the conservaives are... Liberals = Centre-Left and conservatives = Centre-Right
I never understood why liberals always claim they're the "centre" party,, they're actually not.. but maybe it mkes them feel better..

The TTC shouldn't be allowed to strike.

Thanks... for your insight. Did you even watch the video? Do you realize the problem is not solely the TTC?

We should all go on strike, all of us, the whole country. Canada on strike!
Then they can give us some of that internet money.
In the end the improtant thing is to realize that neoliberalism and our shite country has left us high and dry.
Arm yourself, stockpile food, and be prepared to live on your own.

we eventually DID get a cab, but damn it was the 5th cab that came buy that finally took us.
THANKS!

Are you nuts? The entire bus system would be gutted, and so would be the Sheppard Subway and half the streetcar system.
Good transit indeed.

Improving TTC service... rock and hardplace.
TTC has a lot of useless and under-utilized routes. But here's the conundrum... they kill those routes off, and suddenly theres more cars on the road.
More or less, this goes to show what TTC really stands for "Take The Car"
I'd prefer it was TTB "Take the Bike" but i have to be a realist.
Speaking of which... change won't happen anytime soon because of the way it is run.

they can still go on an illegal strike
theodigital 3 years ago
If no politician is going to declare Toronto TTC is an essential service, one day they might be knocked out by TTC.
Listen :
Since TTC can strike without forewarning, what if the without-warning-strike comes back in these days --
1)City election day.
2)Ontario election day;
3)National election day.
On these election days, TTC can just strike and the results will affect the elections.
Believe it or not, this bunch of NO hearts workers will do it one day.
Who controls this country?
