  • @RedTuttle Im in Bristol/United Kingdom, You?

  • @Xequal1 Think he lives in the US, It would cost a lot to ship a server. Costs around £30 Just getting it sent from somewhere near London to me who is in the South east (By the sea).. And yes RedTuttle I now what you mean. even through two rooms with thick walls and a solid door, I can hear it outside in the garden!! Not too good when you want peace and quiet!! It is the same the same server as my other one I sold! Good, Solid server :)

  • @barryj1234 Yeah, I got my G3 now and it is quite noisy. Im annoyed because it wont install from USB so I have to wait for my DVD-RW's to arrive :(

  • @Xequal1 You should try with getting dream spark verified, Nothing wrong with trying at it.. Then you can use the OS's on there.. Server 2003/2008 I have 2003 on mine.... You will need to burn the disc images to disks. also DL360 G3's don't have "DVD" drives, Only CD I think, That's what mine has standard.

  • @barryj1234 I am dreamspark verified now, I burnt Server 2003 to a CD but when I load up the server with the Server 2003 install disk in it says "txtsetup.sfi is corrupted or missing" I checked on the disk and its present. It also shows up as 1536MB RAM installed when I looked inside and it has 4x512MB RAM (Is it a faulty RAM module that's causing that error?)

  • @Xequal1 Hello. I had this problem, But with about 8/9 errored files, I Just carried on the installation, It should say "retry" on the set up, Try pressing that when it comes up with a error sometimes it sorts it out, if a error still exsist try skipping it.. it installed perfectly for me after a bit of playing around.

  • @Xequal1 My god small world! xD

  • Do you have any servers that your currently selling?

  • @Xequal1 Not currently. I am looking at buying a new server, Maybe a Tower server either HP or Dell.

If you want help in sourcing a server let me know by private message. I sell "IT" equipment now and again.. I sold a Netgear firewall to someone who needed to bring a network back online for almost half of what the firewall is worth. Only because it was needed fast, and needed to be put to use.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

Do you think it would be possible to replace the 2 fans with silent ones?

    For home use.

Was thinking of cutting the top above both heatsinks and fitting 2 vertical fans.

  • @johnypc2008 Hello. I personally wouldn't advise it. Your best off finding a suitable room, and getting a server rack with fans. And just close the door.. illiminates the noise of the server!!

It's a bit like saying, Replacing the fans with "water cooling". Which WOULD never be a good idea. I personally don't have a rack yet, My server's on top of a fridge in the garage. If I was to get into hosting or something than I would be interested in a rack and more servers. The noise is the best bit :)

  • @barryj1234

Unfortunately where I live that’s not possible.

Yes I ruled out water cooling due to cost and even looked at a few retrofit water cooled systems such as Thermaltakes.

I have looked at the CFM involved and can shift this amount vertically by piggy backing however not sure if the current system plays a duel role such as display card or HD cooling.

  • @barryj1234

Most AMD chips I have used in the past have thermal cut out, not so sure on Intel though?

If the same might forgive any miss calculations I make.

Like you not using rack mount so height is not an issue.

  • @johnypc2008 Hi. I am not to sure either on the thermal cut out, But I am sure there is something like it.

I do not use rack mounting for Two reasons, I do not need it-server isn't on all the time, and secondly I don't have the architecture to have racks as of yet. etc high voltage plugs cooling systems.

  • I'm grabbing one of these off of ebay to run my personal projects. Looks great (if not a bit loud)!

  • @DavisonInc Yeah it's great and cheap to buy and also parts cost me next to nothing. Have Windows server 2003 running on it.., If you need any help message me :) thanks for the comment.....

    :)
