I didn't wanna be the one to bring up the 'actual' fight example, but a guy who trains in grappling arts as well as stand up is way more likely to win a fight vs a boxer. If you want to watch a nice sport, watch boxing. But if you want to watch a fight which features a fighter like Frank Mir or Shogun Rua who has more fighting talent in his left pinky toe than Mayweather has in his entire body, watch MMA. Grappling paired with striking (could even be boxing) will always be more effective.

Do you understand these guys are trained to punch a lot harder than MMA fighters, so try to think of that compensatory aspect. One or two of his punches connects with an MMA fighter and they will likely be half conscious. And it is highly likely that at the speed he punches they WILL connect.

Im 29 I dont fight anymore but from my mid teens to early 20's I was always in silly fights. I used to use my legs more than my fists. I could end a fight without the risk of being punched because I stayed out of arms reach but I could still kick. I rarely got close enough to punch. Just like how boxers have a system for punching, there is also a system for kicking.

My side kick is just like a boxers jab, its quick, it keeps people at a distance, it can be used to set something up but its more powerful than a jab, it ends the situation usually with 1 hit. Someone who knows what their doing isnt going to do the stupid kicks u see in the movies. I only used 3 kicks & at the right moment.

I keep doing that until I see an opportunity to throw anotherone without the risk of being hit or taken down. IF the person managed to close the gap I would elbow, thai clinch & knee or shoot.

You can't beat MMA if a good fight is on, some fights in MMA are exclusively boxing, kickboxing and end with awesome Knockouts.

Boxers train to master a combative art, MMA fighters train to fight anywhere a fight could end up. A boxer wearing smaller gloves doesn't ever effect the outcome when fighting a good grappler. Tim Silva wasn't a strong grappler, he was a mid level kickboxer with BBJ. He dominated UFC when all the best heavyweights where fighting in japan.

If you want to watch a nice sport, watch boxing. But if you want to watch a fight which features a fighter like Frank Mir or Shogun Rua who has more fighting talent in his left pinky toe than Mayweather has in his entire body, watch MMA. Grappling paired with striking (could even be boxing) will always be more effective.

It wouldn't matter if every current champion of boxing crossed over tomorrow, odds are they would all get beaten badly in MMA. With 5+ years of training they could be decent but still not good enough to stop an Olympic caliber wrestler from imposing their will. The sports are vastly different, boxers are not used to full body combat.

That is the most wrestler dominated division in the entire sport. BTW Roy Jones just got KO'ed by Denis Lebedev & he is also past his prime. A boxer isn't well rounded enough to survive in a full body combative sport without years of advanced training. Boxing skills aren't enough to get past Olympic caliber wrestlers.

Do you understand these guys are trained to punch a lot harder than MMA fighters, so try to think of that compensatory aspect. One or two of his punches connects with an MMA fighter and they will likely be half conscious. And it is highly likely that at the speed he punches they WILL connect.

Thats just common sense because legs are much more powerful & have more reach than punches. Punching alone does not mean automatic victory. A fight can be won without even throwing a single punch, or kick for that matter. MMA fighters respect boxing because they still train it, but boxers disrespect MMA because they fear it.

Jones & Tyson when they where much younger might have been decent had they trained MMA for years. It doesn't matter how hard or accurate you can punch... A boxer is a white belt in submission grappling & has a very small chance against a Olympic caliber grappler such as Akiyama or Couture. BTW gloves are only to protect a fighters hand, reduce cuts & bruising. The force generated is nearly the same as an MMA glove.

Im 29 I dont fight anymore but from my mid teens to early 20's I was always in silly fights. I used to use my legs more than my fists. I could end a fight without the risk of being punched because I stayed out of arms reach but I could still kick. I rarely got close enough to punch. Just like how boxers have a system for punching, there is also a system for kicking.

Also its not like I constantly keep kicking. I throw 1 & adjust my distance, throw another 1 & adjust my distance. I keep doing that until I see an opportunity to throw anotherone without the risk of being hit or taken down. IF the person managed to close the gap I would elbow, thai clinch & knee or shoot.

Lads boxing is in a bad place. Theres few superstars out there in boxing. MMA isnt rolling around wrestling with pannies on, its real fighting. Noons 11-2. A MMA fighter in boxing is basically handicapping his natural fighting instincts, its the equivalent of removing a predators claws. Boxers are handicapped in MMA because they only know how to effectively use one style in a sport that encompasses all forms of combat. <3 both sports.

@wereareyoumarn Well MMA is how martial arts would actually look like in a fight. I take karate and boxing and I know this. Not every move you do in real life isn't going to be perfect, not even in karate tournaments technique looks perfect and that is something rarely seen.
You can't beat MMA if a good fight is on, some fights in MMA are exclusively boxing, kickboxing and end with awesome Knockouts.
But I love Kickboxing way more than I love Boxing.

@wereareyoumarn kicking in the street is actually effective. kicking someone in the foot/ribs will put them down. and when you are in the street you don't box. boxing is a sport. you can't box in the street.

Boxing is stylistically weak to grappling, the first major encounter between a boxer and a wrestler took place in 1887. John L Sullivan, then HW world boxing champ had a special rules bout with Greco wrestling champ William Muldoon which ended in 2min with Sullivan slammed to the mat losing. Botha got tapped in 2min by a middleweight, his last loss was Klitschko after 8 rounds. Former IBF HW champ

@wereareyoumarn MMA fighters couldn't hang in boxing against a top contender any better than a top boxer could in MMA against any decent submission grappler. Boxers train to master a combative art, MMA fighters train to fight anywhere a fight could end up. A boxer wearing smaller gloves doesn't ever effect the outcome when fighting a good grappler. Tim Silva wasn't a strong grappler, he was a mid level kickboxer with BBJ. He dominated UFC when all the best heavyweights where fighting in japan.
