  • The music is all passion with the sense of time passing.

  • Due to this and my brother's fishing experiences, he wishes to be burried at sea, intact. He loves the sea, totally.

  • @molarmama5 I had asked different funeral homes and they are afraid of ocean pollution. Well, what happened to sailors buried at sea, or when a multi-ton whale dies? It goes back into the food chain, true. My brother is 5'7"

weighs 130lbs. If the ocean can not handle that pure protein then something is very wrong. True, as he wants very desperately to be buried at sea. He loves the sea.

  • This is one of my top 2 favorite movies of all time and the music is a big part of why I love it so much. I never get tired of it. Thanks so much for posting.

Your poetry is exceptionally nice as well!

  • @crappiefillet

The movie is enchanting to say the least. Thanks for your comment.

  • In all honesty I wish I had the talent to compose this! My life would have been well spent; never mind that I am a doctor, (not a PhD.).

God bless you B. Herrmann andShanhaiibenny 2.

  • The BEST version on YouTube to date. Stays true to the score, without editing!

Bless you Maestro Herrmann, and thank you Shanghaibenny2.

  • Like the captain's ghost, this motion picture classic haunts the viewer long after its over! I have loved this movie for many years, having first watched it on a Saturday afternoon TV matinee back in the late 1970's. Rex Harrison was perfect as the ghost of the sea captain who haunts the cottage where he formerly lived... and I loved the beautiful Gene Tierney playing Lucy (or...is it really...'Lucia?') Muir, who eventually befriends the Captain. One of Bernard Herrmann's best musical scores!

  • sleep a nap for me today..you deserve it.. mmmmmm feel :)

  • golden - of the light.

    j.

  • I love your poem! It fits the music perfectly. I can imagine Rex Harrison saying it in narration to this piece.

  • @56stardust

Thank you for the compliment. I am no Keats, but I do try to make a small contribution.

  • @shanghaibenny2 Do you have a website for your poetry? Are you published? Seriously, I haven't read good poetry like yours in a long time.

  • @56stardust

I tried to have it published but got no response from the journal. Maybe someday. Thanks for your kind words.

  • @shanghaibenny2 Maybe you could try one of the University Presses

  • @56stardust Hay Benny the prose and poems are just fantastic ......

  • This and Vertigo are Herrmann' finest presents to music and film

  • Where did you get this? I would love to have it for myself... it is simply amazing!

  • magic and deep, the waves crash, and the name is still carved on the post...A!

  • @UmbrellaWatch

That would have made a great last photo for this video. Nice sharing with you.

  • This is one of my favorite movies! Thank you for posting the music! :)

  • I loved that movie on of my favorites!! Thanks for sharing

  • One of Bernard Herman's finest scores for sure.

  • Beautiful! A classic!

  • So beautiful. There's just something utterly transcendent about this music.

  • A poem in itself.

  • yes benny,

i'm a composer myself and a great fan of Herrmann.

actually i'm incorporating Mr Muir main title into an underscore i'm writing for YT as a homage to this great man.

check out my channel for nosteratu pt3, coming within the month.

    John Robinson.

  • You've done it. Placed a poem to become a commentary befitting the passing of time sequences. You've done credit to the film, and it's soundtrack.

I'll always remember that warning, like the first soft breezes of a faraway approaching storm: "But be careful, there may be breakers ahead."

  • nice comments, friends - I understand - I think we all feel what Mr. Herrmann felt and expresses in this music - longing - love, regret, passion "the music of life's dark romance." The seascapes against his scpre wear me out each time. Also his music at the end - Gene Tierney's passing, and joining Rex Harrson

  • wonderful music i love it

  • fantastic music that lends itself perfectly to this beautiful film .especially the final scenes that were heartbreaking . just like the music that acompanied the classic wuthering heights film with lawrence olivier & merle oberne . these outstanding music scores are timeless and will break hearts for decades and decades to come . long after we have all gone .

  • A sign of its greatness. Nice sharing with you.

  • A single salty tear Wells up, each time

I hear this haunting score from the ghost and mrs' muir

  • Such greatness cannot be overlooked forever. I hope all the world can see this movie.

  • I believe the clock was at 11:00 when the glass emptied and fell, such clever use of symbilism lifes energy draining away and finally ending, crashing to the floor, like the waves that crashed the shore..... the peeling bells haunt me dolefull and beckoning, and your image of the ghost ship, sailing as if by its own will .....

  • I love this movie so much. I've been watching it since I five and my mother showed it to me. It's our favorite movie.

I'm 18 now and I still love it.

  • A lovely, almost eternally sad score- no reflection on the film or the composer, of course. But the whole things SOUNDS almost hopeless and unrequited, doesn't it? (At least until the very end.) That is the beauty and genius of Bernard Herrmann.

  • The pain of such beauty facing the despair of hopelessness strikes deeply within the heart.

  • beautiful Music!

  • fantastic music that lends itself perfectly to this beautiful film .especially the final scenes that were heartbreaking .just like the music that acompanied the classic wuthering heights film with lawrence olivier . these music scores are timeless and will break hearts for decades to come .

  • Bernard Hermann is by far the best composer with Nino Rotta.

    This is truly classical music.

  • @Parvati78100 Henry Mancini doesn't snore.

  • What we both missed.......................

  • GreySparkles. I cannot think of any other film that moves people so deeply across the straits of time. It is my great pleasure to share it with you.

  • This is by far a special reason for me in my career. Why I love acting, why I love classic black & white films, why I am in love with music. This is a special priceless peice of music, it's not even music, it's a love story for the ear. Told by noise and it's beauty to the senses! I love the film with all my heart, I wish more ppl knew of it! I love the sea, thankyou for putting it up..It wasn't here before.

  • This was one of my mother's fav movies and I'm appreciating it more and more. As someone who lives right on the ocean in the Bird Rock area of La Jolla, CA, this movie makes me cry, especially the last time I saw it recently. I live right on the ocean in a small, sea side home and as the movie was playing, our Chelsea clock was ringing. This movie captures the feeling of living by the sea and loving the home you live in.

This is what it is like living next to the sea.

  • You are very fortunate to have a unique appreciation of living by the sea. It's too bad more people do not share your insight.

  • You've really brought to life my favorite movie score of all time. Why do people not better know this film?

  • We are working on it.

  • Yes, and yours is a labor of love and loveliness.

    Again, thanks.

  • One of the most beautiful sound tracks ever written. Good job.....

  • This is my favorite movie and you did an absolutely beautiful job putting this lovely music to the hauntingly beautiful slide show. Bravo!

  • Bernard Hermann's music has really captured eternity.

  • All of the beautiful emotions, thoughts and images one could possibly behold are captured in this magical music score!

  • I like this music. So ethereal, haunting and mysterious.

  • Much as I like this version, I wish we still had the original opening credits of "The Ghost and Mrs Muir" on YouTube!

  • Yes, it was quite popular.

  • You have really done it this time. I have never felt closer to the spirit of this beautiful movie--and to all of Hollywood's Golden Age--than I do now.

    Thank you.

  • Spirit. Yes, that's what it is all about.

  • I liked the clock. It was a good tuch :D I love this film. It made me cry

  • Thanks. So many people all over the world like you and me have been deeply moved by this movie.

  • Shanghaibenny2, you've captured the essence of THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR to perfection. Lovely selection of images and the glorious BH score. That pic of the famous Lone Cypress (on the famed 17 Mile Drive) is spectacular. Thank you for posting.

  • Beautiful, touching video! But I beg to differ on the "Lone Cypress" comment...that is a monkey puzzle tree :)

  • The image at 2:08 is the Lone Cypress. Shanghaibenny2 did include a very nifty merging image of Capt. Gregg and his monkey puzzle tree at about 4:06..a rather nice touch I thought! I'd LOVE to know where in Carmel/Monterey, CA they filmed this movie!

  • Lovely and very creative! - I think, the music is not frome the Varese Sarabande Soundtrack CD I have. Is it from a Soundtrack-Sampler?

  • No, it is from a CD.

  • shanghaibenny2: Totally amazing pics of clouds & sunsets, etc. Your unique ability to morph such beautiful sky/cloud scenes into a video that matched the timeless music of this film totally had me from the start!

This *is* my fave of "The Ghost & Mrs Muir"

video enterpretations! Excellent job! What a joy!

  • The end of this film moves me so much... It must produce the same effect to whoever has loved deeply in ones life.

  • Thank you. My all time favourite Gene Tierney film...

It won the best music Academy Award in 1943.

  • Though the film was nominated for Best Black-and-White Cinematography in 1948, and as much as this score deserved it, Herrmann's music was overlooked by the Academy. A crime, really ...

  • jarqq, A decision which I hope haunted them.

  • I think they're haunted a little every time someone talented like yourself pays Herrmann tribute, championing expression of your love of his music, with a video like this one. (Nice, pensive interpretation of the score you chose, as well.)

  • Which score one the award that year, then?

  • one = won

  • A Double Life with Ronald Coleman. What a farce!

  • agreed. My favorite musical score of all time. How in heavens could it not have been nominated? A black and white white movie that is the perfect blend of cinematography and music. At the end, each crashing wave can be visualized without even watching the movie. Now that's movie soundtracking at its finest. Another score, written by Maurice Jarre, that is not even able to be found on Youtube is Resurrection. Listen to it you watch the movie.

  • This was lovely. It's my favorite film and story, for that matter and it's clear you also love it. Thank you.

  • This is really beautiful!

  • Thanks very much.
