I like the band before jamie rowe as well. They went a more "blueish" sound (tired, and has been done by so many metal bands). They weren't good after that.
Dude - SERIOUSLY? Jamie Rowe stepped in, and if you 'listen' to The Miracle Mile album, it truly is one of the most amazing albums( Christian or Secular ) ever done! I agree their 'sound' changed a bit, but Tonys' guitar licks, and the cohesive fabric of what was already 'good', became 'GREAT'. They got better and better as each release saw a band maturing, and also their message and how they 'brung it' got bolder and bolder! 1st singer was amazing, Jamie took them up several notches, period!
@romans323ful they sounded like bandlands (w/jake e lee) and were no where as good as them. Palacios and Jake aren't even in the same league really! He's not even as good as Strypers guitarists, he's just ok. He's not horrible, but not the best. Actually I think Barren Cross was alot better than guardian IMHO.
@testchannel61 As far as his playing ability goes, he is a decent player. His solos are tastefully done, not overdone. Maybe a tad on the underdone side, sometimes.Without a doubt, his tonality is killer, not that tone is everything. I think he is a little better than o.k. He is really good. Not great or really great, or one of the best, but a solid player, none-the-less.
You can really hear some great guitar work by Tony Palacios on this album, it is a good one. The sound changed with Jamie Rowe on vocals, but Jamie has a great voice, I really liked "Fire and Love" CD.
Also want to mention that I was just listening to my new (90's vintage Guardian) CD on the way to work and I agree wholeheartedly with OKENUFFZENUFF1 in that your sound is very similar to Dokken.
I grew up in a Christian household, but listened only to secular metal in the 80s. I'm now 41 and have an 11 year old son that's been playing drums for 4 years now. I've struggled to find clean lyrics in my CD collection, so lately I've been searching out Christian metal for him and stumbled on to Guardian. You guys really have an excellent sound!
Well I have to say..as much as I love these old Guardian vids from our "space rock" days--I'd really like the Guardian fans to see concert footage from our first tour...when we did this show...I was still learning to sing! I think the Guardian fans deserve to hear me sing like I did once I found my voice...(shortly AFTER recording First Watch during our first 40 city US tour-there's some really exciting footage out there man and it'll be posted ASAP this year! Yours truly--

This guy sounds like Don Dokken. He's not a bad singer but I definately like Jamie Rowe better.
