  • Hi I'm legally blind and it happens to me all the time it's even worse because my mother who assist me often doesn't see a problem with it sometimes I just want to take my cane wave over my head and say I'm over here you fuckwads

  • THANKS YOU SOOOO MUCH MAN I LOOOVE THIS I TODALY AGREE I'm LB (I've got no vission in my right eye and 20/400 in my left) to and have always been. I HATE when people do that. My 9th grade teacher did that adn we got over it she ended up being really nice, but OMG I HATED IT and I THINK my classmates used to do it, but GOD IT'S THE MOST ANOYING EVER Exspelusly when your a teen. I really wish people would stop being so ignorent.

  • I'm also legally blind, and I also just LOVE it when ppl treat me like I am brainless!!

  • I have had similar experiences, too. One person thought my friend was my mother. Eh, the woman is 10 years older than I. I'm visually impaired although I can see regular print. It doesn't happen too often. Sometimes, I think people are intimidated and are prone to irrational thoughts.

  • @Barryb64 I will agree that it is a lack of public knowledge and awareness on the part of the general public. But it can sure make us (the visually impaired community) feel bad. Thanks for your comment and for watching.

  • I am not blind but I do know how people act when interacting with a blind person. It is irritating! Great work VideoGuy NC

  • @lorilai76 Thank you very much for watching my video, and thank you for the kind words. It is refreshing to find people who understand. It's sad that so many people just jump to conclusions about people, and don't take the time to get an understanding of the individual's abilities. For example, I've had SO many people tell me that they are shocked at my technical knowledge because of my visual impairment.

  • @VideoGuyNC Thank you so much for responding! Many people are ignorant why would you not know about technology like it is even more useful for blind people offering lots of services. Also, I have been a server and a bartender for most of my adult life( I'm 34) and I had a blind country club member I just gently touched there hand to let them know I had just refilled the beer and where it was I also worked at disney for 3 years & we actually did Have braille menus! But disney does it right!!

  • I'm visually impaired myself and have the same issue to a certain extent, i.e. it doesn't happen all the time, but I do get annoyed by it

  • @FlamingTorch9 Thanks for watching my video. I don't get so frustrated at the people's actions. It's the lack of knowledge that so many seem to have. If people would better educate themselves (even those without impairments) the world could be a more productive place. Best of luck to you.

  • I have the same problem. The only help i need is to get the people i'm with to read me the menu so i can choose what i want. if not i'll tend to ask the waiter what they have. The megnifine glass with me. but they all don't just fit in a purce or a pouch. frowns.

  • @Munro27v Thanks for commenting on my video. I don't really like it when people act as though I can't think for myself.

  • I sure understand why you would be peeved.

  • @kevkraft Thanks for watching my video. All we (the visually impaired community) want and expect from the general public is to be treated like EQUAL people.

  • I am visually impaired and have experienced that problem all my life. I used to accept it at one time but with age have realised that I shouldn't and need to speak up. Recently allso became a wheelchair user which makes this issue now much worse for me, and very frustrating because I do have a good brain.

  • Thanks for your comment. Some people out there don't use enough intellegence to understand that while we may do a few things a little differently - we are capable, caring, intellegent, productive people. We don't let our challenges slow us down and we keep fighting for the recognition we deserve as skilled individuals.

  • @VideoGuyNC You are indeed correct.

  • @VideoGuyNC Hey, help me understand. Being "legally blind"< can you see AT ALL or...how is "legally blind" defined?

Having worked in human services for many years, I learned how to take into consideration just what you're saying. You know...only help if I'm asked...don't operate from pity but from respect...don't assume he's helpless just because he's visually impaired, stuff like that.

  • @kevkraft Thanks for your question. Yes, I can see to walk around. I am not LEGALLY allowed to drive. I cannot read small print without high-powered magnification such as a CCTV electronic magnifier. I use a screen reader on the computer that is called NVDA. NVDA is a HUGE advance in computer accessibility b/c until it came along, the only screen readers available were hundreds of dollars. NVDA is free for anyone. Legally blind is what it says, a legal definition of my vision ability.

  • I have had people think that I can't read althought my raading is not fluelt but that is because I have had my visual impairment since i was an infamt. I have a cindition called nystagmus and I am blind in my right eye di to a childhood injury. My older brother has always thought of as needing constenc help with everything but that is not the case.

  • Yeah - I think most people are trying to be helpful. Some just don't know, (or don't try to understand) that visual impairment does NOT make us physically challenged. Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • I inviet you to subscribe to me if you would like t I am look for other visualy impaired individuals out there to connect with. Do you like videogames ?

  • I do like retro type games (NES, SNES, etc). I play a LOT of emulator stuff on my PC.

  • Hey that is cool I also like old retro games from the 1980's and 90's those are the game that i grew up around even though i have an xbox 360 I will never get tired of the classics.

  • HI There. I am visually impaired too.and find it much easier to just create my own menu items, telling the waitress what I want.. and work from there. Eliminates too much reading, and cuts down the time. If I can gather some info on what they serve.. ie: burgers or a sandwich.. I just say, please tell me what kind of meat you have, and what kind of cheese.. and I either create my own meal telling them what I like, or they can suggest other items off the menu that kinda fit what I like. Good luck

  • it happends to me a lot on school campes they intend to ingnor me and talk to my visual aid it makes me mad. i can speak for myslfe and i know what i'm doing.
