  • guitar playing is not a competition.

  • I'm liking joe more and more but steve winwood's version is much better

  • Move over everyone, This Man is a Legend !!!!

  • Blind Faith lp brought me here!

  • From a technical aspect, it is what it is. The reality is "What am I trying to say with what I'm playing?" Everyone of us has a mouth but we express ourselves differently and not always in the same language. One might say, "This one smokes that one" and all that though it really just comes down to self-expression. Joe Bonamossa found he could do it with the Blues. Eddie Van Halen does it in the rock venue. I'm not Marcus Miller and I don't try to be.

  • So those of you comparing and contrasting are just as good as any of these excellent artists. Therefore you can expertly decide who is better? I believe any man who can use their fingers to play rifts like these,,,,can probably excite me with more than just their music...and I would be proud to have them play me sometime...lol....great music....and haters can kiss it.

  • I'm so proud that my parents called me Joe

  • Respect to Mr. Stevie Winwood!

  • i think its great that joe is showing this great songs to new generations.... i´m a huge fan of steve, but i didn´t knew this one

  • joe rocks the venue

  • No! He's Spartacus and so is my wife!

  • Joe's original cover > this and the Blind Faith original.

  • He's nay Steve Winwood.

  • I call bullshit on this being an amateur recording. LOL

    these vids are great, man!

  • Blind Faith rules :)

  • Best is relative. Joe is a sweet singer and player just love listiening.

  • opinions, opinions, opinions.......

  • POOR RENDITION..USED ONLY VOLUME AND SPEED TO HIDE THE OBVIOUS. NOT A CLAPTON.

  • @drz860 Right. Not a Clapton...a Bonamossa. Different animal. Both great.

  • He played it closer to the original this time. I don't think I've seen him do that with this song before now. I personally loved how he took the song into overdrive mode on his HTCT album.

  • This song was written by Steve Winwood and recorded by Blind Faith. Their guitar player was Eric Clapton...you know CLAPTON. In my opinion, he is better then both Joe and John. I would never say anyone is the "best" as there is no Best. Everyone has their favorite and that's "their" best. I personally think MY best are Santana and Martin Barre (Jethro Tull)

  • Hey, that looks like Robin Miller's guitar!

  • Yes, rgrubb45013, totally. I just saw him in Sydney this last Friday and he was even better than last year... this guy is a genius... sometimes we forgot to breathe. It seems humanly impossible, but I suspect he's going to continue to evolve... what a talent...

  • 'scuse me folks, uh, the song is one of Steve Winwood's. And I cannot believe that anybody even chalks down JB for being a non-academic. This guy teaches.

  • All these guitar players are great. Why can't everybody stop arguing who is best and just ENJOY the MUSIC.

  • @sebmooc7 That's the spirit :)

  • @sebmooc7 I agree. I don't believe there is a "best". Just who I like.

  • @sebmooc7 i concur, my friend!!!!

  • Both, JM and JB are greats guitar players, they rock, and I'm sure they know a lot of music theory, everyway they are far from being the best guitar players in the world, as long as Scott Henderson lives... sory but he is THE MAN haha, don't hit me people, just music taste!

  • I've seen both Mayer and Bonamassa in concert. I thought Mayer was quite good, better than I expected, but Bonamassa was jaw-dropping excellence. I've NEVER seen a better concert and I've seen a lot including Clapton several times. Joe Bonamassa is in a realm all his own, there is no comparison.

  • @missmoke007 ive seen a lot of players and i got to see Joe for the first time... He sent Chills up my spine the entire time... THERE IS NO CAMPARISON!!! Joe Bonamassa is hands down the best blues artist out right now he takes a back seat to NO ONE!!!

  • @rgrubb45013 I totally agree, he's the absolute best out there and probably will be for a long time as he keeps getting better, which seems humanly impossible. His playing is mind-boggling!

  • Bonamassa is one of the ALL time greatest guitar players ever!

The man just bleeds atalent from every pore of his being, and anyone that say's different is a dumbass.

  • Mayer to Bonamassa is Apples to Oranges

  • @chancecaufield Assuming your analogy follows respectively my palate has a preference for Oranges. (That means I like Joe better.) No shit though I do like oranges better than apples anyway.

  • Mayer to Bonamassa is Apples to Oranges.

  • John Mayer sucks in comparison to Joe!!!

  • @318825768 John Mayer sucks in comparison to anybody! At least people like Bonamassa never abandoned their roots for a corporate radio pop career!

  • I LOVE BOGIE!!!!!!!!!!

  • i thing joe bonamassa and doug aldrich are the best one left...

  • Are you kidding me? How can John Mayer even exist in the same realm of thought as Joe Bonamassa? What an insult to Mr. Bonamassa.

  • again.. i see comments about "who's the best" "who's the new Blues God" .. and well it pollutes my listening .. don't you get it? it's not a contest .. just listen.. enjoy and please..please shut the fuck up , right?

  • Joe is good and so authentic!

  • This sounds just like Govt. Mule......

  • yeah bluesrock's not dead!!

  • I like Joe, but I don't think he did this song justice vocally. Guitar-wise he made it his own and it's pretty damn good, but his voice just seemed weak.

  • @ronzee55: Felt the same way about John Mayer, that is till I found a video on YouTube: "T Bone Burnett with John Mayer on Leno" (song "Palestine Texas") Check it out, you may be pleasantly surprised about Mayer...It's a really cool blues song that I highly recommend....HOWEVER~Bonamassa SHREDS Mayer!!

  • @mustangTNT I gotta agree with you. John Mayer is helping to keep blues alive. Even if many call him a douche, I'm pleased that he plays blues. The more of us, the merrier. :)

  • @ChyronIsChillin Thanks! There CANNOT be too many great musicians...If everyone was the same, the world would be a pretty boring place!

  • @ChyronIsChillin Just playing a little bit of it at his concerts doesn't help, because the people that go to his concerts heard his MODERN POP music on mainstream TV and Radio! If he was helping keep the blues alive, why wouldn't he release BLUES as his singles? Why wouldn't he go on all the talk shows he gets on and play the blues and talk about the blues and promote it? Joe is pure blues! His singles are blues, his talk show appearances have to do with blues, and he leaves out the pop mess!

  • @RHMETAL While you do have a point, my point is that he plays blues at all. John Mayer, while not favorable in his acts or words, is still a talented guitar player. Now there's a world apart between him and Bonamassa, but he still plays blues. I can't honestly tell ya whether he's sincere with his blues playing, but if it turns other people on to Clapton, Robert Johnson, B.B. King, Bonamassa and the rest, then it's keeping the music alive. Anyone that plays blues helps.(in MOST cases)

  • Sounds great! He looks totally different now, more fit, clean cut.

  • great performance but... it just aint eric :(

  • @bigalex52 lol u seen Eric he got creamed when he played with Joe at RAH. opps sorry for the pun there.

  • @fastred999 .

hah nice pun. but at RAH clapton was there to support him. he wasn't supposed to take the lead anyway ;)

besides who cares, they are both brilliant players!

  • hes good... but this just isn't as good as when Eric does it! xD

  • What Amps does Bonamassa play? Old Marshalls?

  • @Kinslaya there's a video about his rig and gear, check them out its like a 4 part series, really cool you can learn alot from it.

  • I love how every solo he plays is unique. He never plays the same type of solo pattern in every one of his songs.

  • Guitar is one thing and he's a gifted. Great vocals are another and seem more rare these days.

  • he sings this way too quiet imo. too breathy. needs to open up some more.

  • Yes, he doesn't reach for the high notes, which are essential for the melody, which leaves the vocal sounding flat. Good ax chops, though.

  • Joe is giving tribute to what has inspired him with his career as a musician...

    Bad comment!!!

  • I totally agree with you, buddy! Every great musicians played great covers and Joe does this wonderfully well!

  • @mendrugo7 most of the legendary blues groups I.E. Cream, Led Zeppelin, etc. played covers of other older bluesmen, not as much, you are correct there, but just wanted you to know if you didnt already :), merry christmas.

  • Joe is a great performer...

superb guitar player and a good singer.

but first of all .... a great performer!!

  • What a great quality ! Did you film this ? If so, do you trade ??

  • I love Joe's version of this on "A New Day Yesterday LIVE" DVD.

  • Du blir alltmer proffessionell. Dags att starta eget? :)

  • super...........

  • never heard a cover of this before, superb guitar and a fair stab at singing, tricky song to cover.

  • opps hit the post key...haha What I was trying to say was....

. Not to mention that it was also Clapton in the original lead on this song also... Joe is a very brave guy and also a great player... !!

  • Hey you have to give Joe credit for just having balls big enough to even do this song!!! Winwood is a singers singer and anyone has to be VERY brave to atempt to sing this song not to mentin that

  • Sorry, I'm a John Mayer fan also and even though John and Joe are both on my Ipod, John doesn't even stand in the same ring.... not even on the side of the ring. I think John is a great guitar player, but its light years away from anything that Joe can do.

  • John Mayer....best guitar player? Are you f'n kidding?

  • @ronzee55 John Mayer is a GREAT musician ad a blues guitar player. He is as good as Joe. I love them all.

  • @Van0791 - COme on now, be real with yourself, Mayer is definitely not as good as Joe. And that is ok, no one said he has to be, but it isnt even close.

  • @BLacKCatB0ne maybe there are guitarrists that are better than Joe, but i dont really know them. And judging from what i've seenso far, its kinda hard to get much better.. With this i mean that it is OK not to be as good as Joe lol

  • @ronzee55 he is really good man...best no..but up there for sure...his live performances convinced me..and im a hard critic..lol..

  • @ronzee55

Yepp you got it right. John Mayer is the best. Go ahead and drown me in hate mail, but John Mayer has Joe Bonamassa on so much. JM has versatility; he can hop through genres like he's playing candy land; when he tries a genre/style he dives in the deep end. He doesn't just touch on it; he goes all out and does it well. Whether its, rhythm, solos, technique, presence, vocals, or anything I'm leavin out; John Mayer takes the cake. BUT; this is not to say I dislike JB; I like him a lott.

  • @surfer1211 john mayer is a great guitarist, he knows more technical theory than Joe Bonamassa because he went to berklee school of music. My preference is Joe Bonamassa, he sticks to the blues and really knows how to shred some crazy blues licks. Bonamassa knows his fair share of theory, hes a good jazz player, country player a great hard rock guitarist and an awesome blues man. he has a rawness in his playing that makes him more unique. Overall Clapton is god... :P

  • @CoreyTB1

Don't chew out me out for this but Clapton really isn't God. He is Fantastic!; but not God. Like he has some serious, serious talent but he hasn't done anything that SRV or Hendrix couldn't do (possibly even better.) I love Clapton but folks of that generation were really overreacting to some pretty sick playing. As for JM, yeah he went to Berklee, but he was there for only 2 semesters. Most of which was spent in his dorm trying to as he put "Write Music as opposed to Learn Music."..

  • @CoreyTB1

He's admitted that he can't read music off a page; he also said the most important thing he learned from Berklee was "Doe Rae Me, and ear training" other than that most of his playing was learned by ear. Regardless JM and JB are pretty close but IMO i prefer JM both on technicality and style; but than again it's just an opinion and its clear ours vary & nothin is wrong with that! Bottom Line every guitarist I've named is gnarly and deserves respect. Opinions will vary and that's okay!

  • @surfer1211 Saying "John Mayer is the best" implies that "subjectivity is objective", which objectively speaking is; fucking retarded at best. "John Mayer is a proficient blues guitarist" would be closer to the truth. With all that said and done, I find Bonamassa's playing far more spiritually fulfilling than Mayers'. There is a real sense of "I didn't have to write a bunch of cheesy pop albums for money" about him.

  • @rexasul Good point. "Your Body is a Wonderland" comes to my mind

  • @rexasul john mayer is shit compared to bonamassa

  • @rexasul

Best comment ive read all year man..your awards in the post ;)

  • @rexasul

    Joe smokes Meyer......

Check out Stevie Vai....... Joe Satriani and many others ...It's all about taste.......

The world is full of great guitarists ...to many to mention here ...

I love them all !!! But I truly admire the dudes who can shred the "acoustic"

  • @onlyafterdarkness Scott Henderson is the master of tasteful guitar playing. Listen to "Ashes".

  • @onlyafterdarkness

if i may... i disagree with you completely... first of all i think Jb is just awesome but his style is different from Jm´s, Jb's is more of a rock player while, in my opinion, Jm´s is more blues, listening to him reminds me of stevie ray vaughan a lot.... it is difficult for me to compare Jb to other players... still both give me eargasms when i listen to them

but as to joe smoking mayer?? i dont think so... and im a big fan of both

  • @rexasul Don't assume that just because Joe made music for his fans that John didn't do that too. Just because John started at a pop musician doesn't make him any different than Joe, he didn't make the pop records for money. That music speaks to people just like Joe's work speaks to you. So don't go throwing bullshit remarks about any of John's work. That said, they are too immense guitarists, you can't compare guitarists. Just like you can't compare artists, or any creative individual.

  • @palmster56 You can compare guitarists if you want to. Why can't you compare guitarists? Any two things can be compared, even subjectively - with some level of reason. I don't even like Bonamassa that much.

  • @ronzee55 you do not know much about music if you think not, rene martinez, mayer's guitar tech who used to be srv's tech said mayer is the best today so I would take his opinion over anyone youtube if i were you, and you might try listenng to mayer live and then you will see how truly great he is

  • @ronzee55 fuck that guy

  • @sebz661 Glove puppet !!!!

  • @ronzee55

In mainstream music? Yes. In all of music? NO. He is very solid, but not the "best"

  • @4tea9ers Can you tell me who is?

  • I was at the concert august 1st in Notodden. It was my first Joe Bonamassa concert, and it left me with my jaw to the ground. Absolutely fantastic. Specially impressive was the acoustic version of woke up dreaming.

  • I was there, at the front. it was amazing..

  • No Offense, but i think the Keyboardist messed up in the biggining.

  • They put this together at soundcheck that night.... just saying. Even if Rick did mess up.... it's pretty impressive that it's this tight after playing through it one or two times.

  • Definitely man! Those guys are amazing!

  • wow.....fantastic....doesn't look amateur to me....thanks!!!

  • im going to see joeB tomorrow 1.august at notodden blues fest here in norway. i have never been to a concert before soo i cant wait to go and see this amazing guy!! Joe Bonamassa the best guitar player of his generation!

  • buddy guy is playing to ? right?

  • Is John Mayer considered as one of his generation ? Then, I would measure them equal in addition to "best quitar player" of their generation.

  • yay finnally someone who doesnt say john mayer sucks hes pop gay john just tries to do something different and he has

  • How was the show?

  • Great that he is playing the song again..seems closer to the original..not that heavy as it used to be

  • A very great song from Steve Winwood Blind Faith play from Joe. 5 stars
