@familytreemusic I think Zakir did answer that in one of his talks. When he said that the Qur'an did not actually prohibit it, but there was indications; because the Qur'an spoke of idle tales. Furthermore, a hadith made mention that there are among the prophet's (saw) people who would consider fornication, _, having intoxicants and playing music instruments as legal. @familytreemusic Salam, brother, I had also once an inclination with music. But, now that I have heard the Prophet's (saw) position about it, I had to stop it. But, note that what is prohibited is the use of musical instruments, it did not prohibit the Muslims from using our voice. Tha Athan for example. There are nasheeds out there praising and remembering Allah (swt) w/o the use of musical instruments, which to me better than any other western songs or classical songs. Peace!

How about non-fictional stories, how about watching sunsets and sunrises. Or beautiful animals or plants. We have emotional reactions to all these things. Sometimes a sunrise lifts my feelings, and other times it makes me sad. Does that make sunrises haram?
About the culture. The frame of thought, the feeling, that there is something wrong with music, that listening to it will take you to hell, is from culture. Music doesn't do anything that reading a book wouldn't do. Your baseless accusation that music makes you depressed, can be said about a story in a book as well. Emotional responses to objects and stories is just part of being human. The whole point of writing a story is to effect someone emotionally. Are fictional stories haram too then?
One big reason why one shouldn't follow the Hadiths is because it is filled with contradictions. Just as Naik here pulled out Hadiths showing music is haram, there are other Hadiths that prove that there is nothing wrong with music. So now, which Hadiths are the correct ones? Since I don't follow Hadiths, there is no contradiction for me, music is great. But you, you have to pick which Hadiths to follow and which to disregard.

Allah would not leave out important haram things out of the Quran. The hadiths were compiled hundreds of years after Prophet Muhammad died. And Allah only said He would protect the Quran. The Hadiths are not under Allah's protection and most of them have been corrupted to push culture and not religion

@BlackJesus1989 Hadiths were COLLECTED, not WRITTEN and not SAID. I said COLLECTED, hundreds of years later. The Hadiths is just a centuries long game of telephone. One person tells another and then tells another and the original message is lost somewhere in between and the message the person at the end of the chain receives is perverse.

So to obey the Messenger is to obey the message he reveals. It doesn't defend Hadiths, it defends the Quran. It's talking about the Quran.

Music does not create a false reality. That rationale is incredibly juvenille. All the crap people say about music...why don't they say it about sports? It makes people happy when they're miserable. @familytreemusic I think Zakir did answer that in one of his talks. When he said that the Qur'an did not actually prohibit it, but there was indications; because the Qur'an spoke of idle tales. Furthermore, a hadith made mention that there are among the prophet's (saw) people who would consider fornication, _, having intoxicants and playing music instruments as legal. But, note that what is prohibited is the use of musical instruments, it did not prohibit the Muslims from using our voice. Tha Athan for example. There are nasheeds out there praising and remembering Allah (swt) w/o the use of musical instruments, which to me better than any other western songs or classical songs. Peace!

Music Instruments was originally not allowed because it detracts people from making prayers on time or a music tune is in their hand while performing a Salat. About the culture. The frame of thought, the feeling, that there is something wrong with music, that listening to it will take you to hell, is from culture. Music doesn't do anything that reading a book wouldn't do. Your baseless accusation that music makes you depressed, can be said about a story in a book as well. Emotional responses to objects and stories is just part of being human. The whole point of writing a story is to effect someone emotionally. Are fictional stories haram too then?

One big reason why one shouldn't follow the Hadiths is because it is filled with contradictions. Just as Naik here pulled out Hadiths showing music is haram, there are other Hadiths that prove that there is nothing wrong with music. So now, which Hadiths are the correct ones? Since I don't follow Hadiths, there is no contradiction for me, music is great. But you, you have to pick which Hadiths to follow and which to disregard.

Allah would not leave out important haram things out of the Quran. The hadiths were compiled hundreds of years after Prophet Muhammad died. And Allah only said He would protect the Quran. So to obey the Messenger is to obey the message he reveals. It doesn't defend Hadiths, it defends the Quran. It's talking about the Quran.

Music does not create a false reality. That rationale is incredibly juvenille. All the crap people say about music...why don't they say it about sports? It makes people happy when they're miserable. 1) content should not be against islam or islamic restrictions
2) duff (tamberine), without bells is ok. And if thats ok shaitan might lead us to believe that all sorts of drums are ok? and then even piano is ok as its a percussion instrument as well, and on and on. But all these are not permissible as they are musical instruments. continued in next post

There is a beautiful verse: Anukulasya Sankalpah, Pratikulasya Varjanam! Accept that which is Favorable for Devotion to Lord (or anything for that matter) and Reject that which is UnFavorable. And then "Raksisyati iti Vishvasah", a strong conviction that He (the Lord) will protect.
If Music is favorable accept it; employ it in His service. Let not the mind deviate from Lord's thought. This is true devotion to Lord; not "Fear of Allah"! Is Allah a Dictator? Tyrant? Is He a LOVING OR HATING GOD?

These religions do not contradict the principles of Hinduism, but they are mere subsets of the Hindu thought! There are aspects of Hinduism that resemble these religions, but such takes are supposedly for "simpletons", lack philosophy, please forgive me but it is! Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysis, Thailand, Japan were all in the Indian belt, separated over a period of time. There is nothing called HINDUISM, it is boundariless (something that Muslims cannot fathom), it emcompasses every thought that you can imagine! Quran does not have anything that cannot be discovered by Human Intelligence other than aspects that are abstract by nature (soul, paradise, hell etc).
