  • That's incredible, I was going to tag certain times but the whole thing is good. Holy moly

  • Can"t wait until Strickly Bluegrass!!!

  • Yummy on so many levels...

  • Someone buy me a banjo/mandolin so i can turn the women in my life into beautiful music like this?!

  • you guys are prob too young to know windham hill, but this tune really has thier flavor- bravo! much work has paid off-

  • @1965biggest Hey there! I'd like to check out Windham Hill! Are there any youtube videos in particular that you could recommend for me to listen to?

  • This is beautiful!

  • All you can say is "Yeah that's real music".Thank God I have ear's to hear what you boy's just played. BRAVO.

  • Thank God for you and your music

  • the violinist looks like chuck norris

  • four people were having a terrible day.

  • It is or isn't bluegrass...who cares; it's music and categorization is meaningless. If you enjoy the music, that's all that matters. Great stuff.

  • Give it up...it's not bluerass...but bluegrass has never had respect since Ned Betty was rapped in Deliverence. Chris is the virtuosos of are time...set back and enjoy the ride and just see where he takes music. I am thankful for the next link in the chain of musical progress!!!

  • This is my favorite Punch Song - but all of their songs are great. Can't wait to see them again live!

  • I just freakin' cry every time I hear these guys. They are everything that has been good in bluegrass for the past 30 odd years.

  • @axsys212 They make me cry too.Just great great musician's.The world need's to hear them not Lady Gaga

  • instrumental geniuses.

  • the bridge kicked my ass

  • That's a lotta strings! =)

  • If you guys knew what your music does to me, you'd wanna take a shower!

  • g run cracks everybody up but the banjo player. That's how they are.

  • tight

  • Hah look 3 people missed the Like button

  • Great stuff brothers.

  • The sum is greater than its parts

but each of these guys are really amazing

  • sincerely dig these guys

  • Excellent ...!

  • I like how just cause mainstream is so pop that people regard these guys as genius. Go see a classical performance. Not to say this band is bad. They just are "the best ever" or "genius"

  • @CooperCarr87 If people have never been exposed to music with more compositional depth than "pop music" than indeed, from their point of view they are correct. P. Brothers are "the best ever" and "genius". Chances are they will be exposed to more music with comp depth e.g. "classical music" as a result - say maybe the Punch Brothers many performances of classical repertoire in concert or online. You seem bitter about mainstream being pop, why not be happy for the converts instead of snubbing?

  • @CooperCarr87 while the best ever is too subjective to really deem anyone, i would definitely say that Chris is a genius... especially in this setting... i mean go see them live... the composition is out of this world and every stop and transition is seamless... i would definitely call them genius... one of the few musicians with that level of technique, vision, lyricism, composition ever

  • I understand Chris wanted to try new horizons but I still think that N Creek's experience is a very sweet one Hits like The Lighthouse This Side will always remain deeply rooted in my heart

  • I love this type of music! I wish they played it more on the radio.

  • i jizzed in my pants from 1.10 to 1.39

  • Wonderful music!

  • fuckin ace brahams

  • Sometimes I think these guys can't possible exist, like they're too good to be true.

  • WOW.

  • Love it.....

  • Amazing

  • huge fan of Knickle Creek too.

  • @sjporr knickle? hahaaa.

  • wow.. very good xD

  • @snake27317 Dude, everything sounds good on Chris Thile's mandolin and the mandolin was played long before bluegrass was born... you know what was played on it? CLASSICAL. check out Vivaldi man

  • This highly inspirational! I was already planning on starting to play mandolin and now I'm definitely doing so. I would be a nice addition to my guitar. :)

  • the violinist looks like chuck norris lol

  • @64wing no he doesnt he looks like the rabbi next door..... ;)

  • @64wing

good thing its not, cause if you actually looked at the real Chuck Norris you would instantly die.

  • YES! so good

  • cool that guy with the mandolin look like robert pattison

  • I can only imagine the reason why there is a thumbs down is that someone managed to click it by mistake :P this gets thumbs up from me every time

  • Did someone really just thumbs down this video?!

    wtf?

hmmm...they must be deaf.. that is the only excuse..

  • The more music I hear by these talented gentlemen, the more enamored I become. Keep it up, boys, 'cause I'll keep eatin' it up.

  • j'adore ! c'est tout simplement génial !

  • Had the pleasure of seeing them in concert in Santa Monica Friday and hanging out with them a bit after. The most talented and nicest bunch 'o guys I've had the pleasure of meeting in many a year. See them if you can, and get their new album "Antifogmatic."

  • string-tastic! seriously though, incredible instrumentation by some of the most legitimate musicians anywhere.

  • Gotta love the exchange between Thile, Critter and Gabe at 4:25.

  • savage stuff......absolutly magical....

  • Words can't describe what this music. I've been listening to Chris Thile since I was a kid and his voice still leaves such an impression on me. Such an amazing band, I can't wait for the opprunitity to see them live.

  • I'm going to see them in concert tomorrow night! can't wait!

  • This is incredible! Chris Thile is great! First Punch Brothers song I've heard! Love it!!

  • see ya tonight in Asheville!!!

  • Seeing them tonight in Columbus!

    These guys are absolutely amazing.

  • MUSIC HISTORY SUCKS

  • excuse me... you name is Emotastic.... i believe its you who is the loser.

they do a beautiful job at their chosen instruments.if you dont like it, turn it off. you dont have to leave negitive comments,

  • @EmotasticPrez94 fuck off

  • Yeah... Fuck you. Just because your a little immature kid doesn't mean you have to talk shit.

  • @EmotasticPrez94 well N'Sync is in your favorites... and you know, that's totally... not gay at all?!?

  • Absolutely stunning

  • Unbelievably talented and exciting band.

  • Amazing!

  • wow!!!!!

  • He sold his #14 Dudenbostel...

  • what kind of mandolin is he playing with?!

  • Custom made by Dudenbostel

  • This is awesome...wow.

  • wow

  • Just got back from one of their concerts! It was awesome. Talked to the band, and got signatures.

  • Wunderschön !!!!!!!!!

  • Some very good comments here. If you like this style you must start digging deeper into things like Strength in Numbers, Uncommon Ritual and Appalachia Waltz. So much good music out there. Just saw teh Deadly Gentlemen last night open for David Grisman.

  • Isn't Uncommon Ritual one of the finest things you've ever heard?!

  • @cantbringmedown Uncommon Ritual is incredible -- though this isn't it.

  • Awesome musicians.

  • they r way more than just a super band. they are THE super band. great musicianship

  • Yeah. Chris plays a Loar. he talks about it in another video.

  • He does have a signed Loar, but he's playing one of his Dudenbostels here...most likely #5. He also has #14 I believe, but played #5 on his Nickel Creek and now Punch Brothers recordings.

  • What amazes me about them is that you could grab any recording from any of their live shows and it would sound just as good. They never mess up. They are super-band. :)

  • What kind of mandolin is Chris using?

  • my guess is a signed lloyd loar... just a guess.

  • he does have a loar, but that is a Dudenbostel

  • Comment removed

  • that was extremely soothing!

  • Very Nice! I love Chris Thile. He pretty much introduced me to Bluegrass.

  • some of the most legit musicians today

  • holy shit

  • i dont know why this comment is thumbed down, holy shit is most of times used to express awe. im awestruck by these gentlemen. I've bought their cd and i absolutly LOVE it. and i usually listen to metal or electro or minimal. I said holy shit the first time i heard these fellows. thumbs up.

  • My sentiments exactly. Though I wouldn't say I listen to metal or electronica exclusively, I definitely never thought I would've ever like anything bluegrass. I went from NoFX to Dream Theater to The Knife, and now Nickel Creek and Punch Brothers. It's incredible listening to the best of each genre, and difficult to find other bands that match your standards after you pick your favorites, haha.

  • @bluegrasssingingman little narrow minded are ya?

  • @bluegrasssingingman ASSHOLE.....who cares about your opinion.....go suck an egg!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @bluegrasssingingman wow... you dont get it. if these guys were anything like Mr. Bill Monroe i would not listen to them. i hate blue grass... it is a primitive form of music. this shouldn't even be disgraced by being called "new grass". These people chose to apply their knowledge of jazz music theory to the style of bluegrass instruments. they could translate their knowledge into any style they wanted to. do not rate them on the style they chose, but that their compositional talent exceeds all.

  • I love their music....its like they are classical composers with bluegrass instruments....its the coolest thing!!

  • exactly

  • This is so good it makes my head hurt!

  • This is one of my favorite songs from the Album... well, that's hard to decide since they're all awesome. But I feel this one

  • EIGHT STRINGS on the mandolin?!? am I seeing that right?

  • yeah but you play it like theres only 4

  • ah, like a twelve string guitar (I think)

  • exactly. quite common for mandolins actually.

  • There are two of each note/pitch, and four different pitches, so eight strings total. It gives it a nice ringing tone. I can't really describe it.

  • great great

  • best bluegrass band ive ever heard

thank you so much for posting

i have the solo album and Punch, and saw them in greensboro! im a bigfan!

    keep making beautiful music

    thanks

  • Beautiful

  • oops, I meant the magazine Guitarist!

  • same here

  • what magazine and what DVD?

  • Magazine: Classic Rock

Edition is: Roll of Honour, as far as I know, and it has got this DVD, with this piece included, just in HQ, and another DVD with music videos from various bands, including Motörhead, Deep Purple, Judas Priest and more.

  • Damn hell, sorry man, I was all wrong here. I'm gonna do the right one here;

    Magazine = Guitarist

DVD = The DVD Volume IV

I'm not sure what else to say, but sorry for typing wrong.

  • i have the magazine and when i saw them on that dvd... blew my mind

  • my god they are so tight, and the dynamics are perfecto! Best band out there.

  • so good...

  • cool
