I'm 38 in 2011 (just to provide a timeframe of reference for when I grew up), and I liked this intro the best of the Silver Spoons. I kind of like that "boom" at the beginning. I actually teared up watching this; reminds me (and many others here) of some good happy times.
Rented season one on DVD from Blockbuster Online, it rules! I wish TV shows could have this feeling today with some of the lessons and morals taught in the same ways.
LOL, I love how most 80s sitcoms started off with "gentle", peaceful theme songs, and then switched to rock versions for its later/final seasons; The Facts of Life also did this... :)
What was it with TV theme songs that, in the early years were soft and family like. Torwards the end of the run. Would get a new singer and try to "rock out"
Ah, Alfonso, a.k.a. Carlton from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Now, he's the host of Catch 21 card game on Game Show network. Life has treated him well. This must've been the later episodes of Silver Spoons as Ricky Schroeder's all grown up. I've got the 1st season on dvd of Silver Spoons...I wished they make more seasons than just the one. Maybe they will...
ricky's face is funny at 0:18. =D hehe i didnt see it growing up, but i see it everytime on Tube Time OnDemand, and i love it! i wish it lasted longer than 5 seaons/yrs. =) *sighs*
@megamanj2004X ...yeah thats true..probably had something to do with the whole MTV"sound" thing in 84....then the Cosby Show came along and had a different version of its theme song every season.
This version of the theme song was absolutely sung by a blonde mulleted studio musician named Rixx Rocket or something, probably known otherwise for his direct-to-video self-help series YOU CAN TOO with RIXX ROCKET, and perhaps a porn or two he co-starred in during the 70s. Ah, Los Angeles....
what ever happened to FREDY? I always wanted to cruise around on the TRAIN. Remember the urban legend that Alfonso died when he broke his neck doing the head-stand-spin? he's on the gameshow network now.
@zziicckk01 I thought that Erin Gray actually looked prettier in the later episodes of Silver Spoons! Just look at her on the earlier SS introes, and look at her here!
Ohh my goodness, thank you for posting this, I forgot about this show, I was only 2 when this came out, one of my favorite old school TV shows all times
@qwandiddy You must be about 26-28 in 2011? I'm just guessing, because I'm 38 now, and I was probably 10-11 when SS came out. Joel Higgins and Ricky Schroeder clicked very nicely as father-son on the show.
one of the new "rock" themes. Notice that around this time, most of the Embassy shows had new, more hip remixes to their theme songs coupled with montages during the opening on how their kid stars grew up (Diff'rent Strokes, Facts of Life, Silver Spoons).
The best episode is when rick has a sleep over and they put frogs in that kids sleeping bag and he starts crying. i love those serious humiliation moments in 80s sitcoms. God damn it. Like when jack ruined terry's dress at the party in the first terry episode of threes company.
Dang, I didn't know there was a different version of this theme song? I can tell I was really young when these first aired. I like the original theme better though.

Terri standing there in utter humiliation was most squirm-inducing. Quite uncomfortable. What was with 80s sitcoms making us feel bad?

hahah i dont know but i love it. Humiliation scenes are a lost art in sitcoms. Everyone is so concerned with looking invincible these days.
