  • Is there something erotic about the way the camera follows Simon Day's face in close up? Or is it just me?!

Either way, let there be more caressing camera work in video clips of hot men in rock bands. ;)

  • what makes me laugh is that if this guy was a garbo ...and couldnt sing(well thats debatable) the chicks would be turning up their noses lol

  • i like this band...has a melody....:)

  • awesome band awesome music

  • Sadly they were around a little ahead of their time and never received the recognition they deserved. Awesome PopRock

  • ahhhh takes me back :)

  • Simon Day what a legend

  • @corganite1982 I crushed on him so bad it wasn't funny!!! Saw them live at the Triple J Summer of safe love' gigs they did.... just awesome!!!

  • Tingles!!!!

  • @MrBuzzardb8 awesome album!!

  • was that the batmobile?

  • can someone please tell me the name off the song rat cat did about the space shuttle exploding it was so good

  • @steveyowie it was called GETTING AWAY (from this world)

  • Ïs this still maybe the best pop song in the world ever?

  • oh now you seem all right 2me

  • waterfront records deserve more recognition for the leg-up they gave some top Aussie bands!

  • @verylastuserid Agree - I am a massive Hardons fan who were also on Waterfront - good times. Long Live Ratcat!

  • kissed a girl for the first time to this song

  • ...and in doing so will be entertained for a moment in a conversation with someone who happens to take the bait. If you really have nothing better to do than goad people who are here for their own pure unselfish reasons into a bitter debate of opinions, it is, in my opinion, that you should take your negativity to a therapist or take the inevitable path of enlightenment via a hot bath and a razor. Either choice, the world nor youtube, will miss your shitty input. Great Oz band, Don't Go Now rox

  • Never ceases to amaze me that no matter what song you select on youtube nowadays, there will always be those that are so starved for attention they troll around gainsaying any and everything that crosses their bored, pathetic life's path, in the hopes that they'll strike a nerve with those that are truly here to hear a song that has touched their past (or present for those who are hearing this for the first time)....

  • pyrmont before star city. I used to walk around there getting drunk with my buddy in high school at exactly the time of this clip.

this upload does not capture the beautiful distortion they acheived

  • ...but I cannot seem to see that side, when your holding onto me

  • aaaah i remember this one from back in the day.....it changed some sectors of Oz music. For the better.

  • I'm a Yank who thinks this band should have done better stateside; the kinda reminded me of a slightly more new wave Ramones...

  • This song was the only one I liked. The rest just got too poppy. If they'd kept this sound they would have been all right.

  • RATCAT is a great band, I have all records at home in Kristinehamn SWEDEN. That ain´t bad, is my favourite song. I have got some vinyls too, I guess they are hard-to-find today. Do you know about any fan club that still is alive? See ya guys! Lennart Frostelid

  • What a shit band

  • @andrewtrezona How old are you bud?...

  • @andrewtrezona go watch australian idol you shit gen y cunt....

  • oh pugwalls summer i loved that show i cant find it anywhere on the net im willing to pay good coin for tapes??? this song goes hand in hand with the 90s along with pugwalls summer vidiot and pizza hut all u can eat!!!! they used to be so cool what happend to them.....????

  • wasn't this song on Pugwall's summer!

  • @piercedis

    pugwalls's summer!! lol. memories!!

  • This was the only puckish track on the video juke box at some pub in Bondi. My cousin and I played it over and over again, pissing people off but no one threatened us so we just kept going.

  • gosh i was 12 when this song came out thought Simon was so hot ....

  • They supported the Ramones. Perth Showgrounds can't remember when..

  • i rememba Simon was a hotshot on the ol' pinball machine...use 2 play it at the Annandale Hotel.

  • It really shits me when you have the likes of Lady Gaga, Pink, Britteny and that ponce Robbie Williams flooding the charts. Not to mention the talentless idiots that come out of Australian Idol. This is real music.

  • @Scorp308 Brilliantly said

  • @Scorp308 Mate, I don't mind this song. It is catchy and fun and better anything from lady Gaga, though it is hardly the epitome of music.

  • @Scorp308 correct me if I am wrong - but this topped the OZ music charts - the start of the alternative movement in Australia, predating Nirvana and paving the way for so many good young bands getting serious airplay,

  • @throwingmuse nah ur right....1991 and before i heard nevermind by nirv

  • @Scorp308 never a truer word been spoken...........your spot on scorp308.this is the business this track......and yes real music

  • Phoar! Simon Day

  • I can not believe that Rat Cat are not on itunes.

  • I forgot how hot these guys were *sigh* I do like the strippy ts they wore all the time too;)

  • Kissed my first girl to this song.

  • lol I remember walking to a ratcat gig in '92' at a pub down bridge road in richmond Melb and walking right into Simon Day on the way in the door and he had to ask us if this is where his gig is lol...... funny.

  • Cool 80's song.. Ratcat lead singer on the new Bonds ad..

  • Comment removed

  • @AlburyAustralia Blast from the past! I haven't had a purple om since the early/mid nineties! They were good value. Bong on!

  • @groverjuicy lol purple ohms hahahaha

  • Got to love the late 80's. When I had hair like that, was lean and loved by the ladies. Thanks for the good memories with the clip and song. My cassette version died a sad death on the dash of the car thanks to being preoccupied with the ladies. But at the end of the day ‘that ain’t bad’.

  • trying to work out where this was filmed in Syd - any thoughts?

  • @sivvyx01 Darling harbour

  • @sivvyx01 looks like pyrmont, maybe round the back of the rocks going toward barangaroo

  • terrible poxy song !

  • @neonjunglejumper

    get effed

  • I shared about 10 trays of b52s with RatCat on NYeve 91' when my band played support. Woke up on the footpath with Queensland rugby league hooker Greg Conescu with a hooker shaking me to see if I alive. All i remember is muttering "fuck off turtle" (his nickname) and wandering off to a cab-rank.

    Yeah .. eh ... eh ... ehhhh!!!!

  • @ozzsihing JEALOUS!

  • Comment removed

  • LOL this song is in the new bonds ad.

  • @aliceaxis and the singer of this band is also in the add watching the girls sing on the truck as he comes out of the milkbar/store...... check it out

  • oh forgot to add that Simon Day is in the bonds add too....bit older ha ha but still cute ;)

  • @Kyeee and here I was thinking I was the only one who noticed that..... good pick up!!!

  • OMG wow havent heard this in years, they were my fave...was sooo in love ha ha :) the song is on a new bonds add in Aust which led to this search, lol great memories!!

  • Joey ramone had many illegitmate sons

  • I remember cruisin out to the beaches with my first GF, in my first car, with P's slapped on the back, when this song current. Take me back!! lol....

  • love Simon's super shinny washed hair he washed for the clip - BOUNCY!

  • @sivvyx01 bhahahah totally - pantene goodness no doubt!

  • Reminds me of when I had hair ;)

  • Damn.. I want a HD rip of this.. hehe

  • One of my favorite songs EVA! Thanks for posting

  • geeeezz.. this takes me back :)

  • Well - this brings back really great memories of being young....and of having a crush on Simon Day - stunning specimen!

  • Love this!! Ahhhh....brings back great memories...

  • my first crush lolololololol

  • I love going to the Courthouse on Oxford St and putting this on the Jukebox......Don't know how many other people appreciate it though:)

  • The Jesus and Mary Chain meet The Ramones......This band made quite a bit of NOISE in the aussie music industry and then slipped out of sight. What happened to them? Anyone know?

  • @theselector

    rat bait

  • @theselector... then slipped out of sight..

Sadly that could be said for dozens of bands in the era!

  • reminds me of the tea party.

  • lead singer's a bit of alright, ay

  • Simon was very popular in the day!!

  • very good

  • @daisychain16 aaaah aaaah get it?

  • @Lewilt oh, been waiting years to use that one.

  • can remember singing this at a kareoki nite. full of pills and even got a clap .great song great band

  • Yes Bucfever you are right although I dont know if its any more than a coincedence. Its a small worls as they say and you can bump into anyone> I just happened to bump into Ratcat,s manager in a car. (Thats why I posted the comment on the Car crash song page).

  • Simon's (lead singer) dad is retired and enjoys makeing model boats, carving owls and breeding finches. Our dads have a lot in common. Although my dad breeds zebra finches and I think Simon's dad prefers to breed Gouldian finches.

  • I had the car registration plates RATCAT for ten years (maybe more)on my Jag but now on my BMW since last year. I crashed my Jag going down a mountain road into a four wheel drive. The four wheel drive owner was the band manager for RATCAT. What are the odds? Pearl red Jag 351 Chev lowered and a beast I miss it but the plates live on. My four email addresses are ratcat@live etc Paul (RATCAT) Victoria

  • ok,who cares your gay

  • Well, you are obviously a mature intelligent person! You obviously dont see the irony of what happened and as far as being Gay, this is not the right forum for addressing a persons sexuality

  • we see the irony however you never mention the bands video or song, instead you selfishly like a little girl go on about it was a 351 chevy lowered, who cares,no one,if they cared they would have told you hey ;ittle lady chevy is 350,fords make 351

    see ya toots

  • @ratcat17 That IS a pretty wild omen for sure, stuff like that doesn't happen often, but I've been hit with a couple of those weird things that are beyond coincidence, especially if your the only one around without someone nearby to witness it. Ultimately I end up saying, "What are the odds"?

  • kinda look like the ramones, kinda sound like the ramones, kinda ashamed to say i liked this song waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the never never....but fuck it's catchy

  • Omg I loved this when I was 8 haha...this song is actually kinda cool....were the trying to be kinda like The cure?....

  • He reminds me of Michael Hutchinson!

  • Holy Cheekbones Batman!

    I love this song. :)

  • Ohhh simon...

  • anyone familiar with a song about the Challenger Shuttle disaster by ratcat?

  • Comment removed

  • The song that features sound bites of the Challenger disaster is "Getting Away (From this World)" and is on the Tingles E.P.

Also, I don't think it's purely ABOUT the disaster... well, that's my take on it anwyay.

  • Hey thanks man, by the way I sort of knew that it wasn't "purely" about the disaster itself, but back then when I heard it, the shuttle disaster wasn't THAT far from our memories, and I guess I sort of associated it, right now purely nastalgia is why I'd like to hear it.

  • yeah i got it on a vinyl ep?? will have to go find it to get the name.

  • vid directed by lee rogers

  • I am a 20 year old brother who has a 33 year old sister who listened to this when it came out. i love this song to bits. thanks for teaching me to value old music:)

  • ...late 80's is *old* music? o.o

  • thanks 4 the advice:)

  • wow , what an angry bunch of folks , still , you have this music in common , right ,...........or you wouldn't be here.

  • Frank, where have you gone??

  • if only you people were defiled like animals die dopey die

  • Saw these guys on a stormy night in Boston- Hurricane came through almost blew my car off the Tobin bridge....the Rat was empty due too raging rain and wind.....had a couple of beers with them...they where wandering...they knew the weather sucked...and people stayed home...NOT me though.

My GF at the time got pissed I drank with these guys and didn't pay attention to her...Hahhahaha!

Still got layed, she was pyshiced cuz they loved the fact she was a blondie....all good!!!

  • BTW they Rocked out...and where great kids too boot!

The fact none was there except some record compey execs didn't stop them from having fun and playing hard.

  • Awesome. Thanks for making my point.

  • Your degrees won't save you. When under fire retreat to your slagging, bitching and whining and wonder why nobody thinks your opinions matter.

  • make no mistake, RasputinJones, I could not fucking care less what you think of my opinion, OK? Let's make that very clear.

I tried to make a joke here, once upon a time, and all you supposedly "easy-goin" "fair dinkum" Aussie big-mouth's took me way too seriously, and this is the last time I'll address it.

    Get over it, punk.

    Cheers,

    Frank

  • Eh Frank, relax man, have a beer or something... bucket bong maybe?

  • yer' right, my frined, roger that!

Good morning Oz! Ol' Frankie loves ya'!

    FrankC32

  • @RasputinJones, the dude with the pretentious name and the big, ignorant mouth.

is there an Aborigine word for "sarcasm", or "getting your ass kicked"?

Loosen up, Crocodile Dundee, throw another shrimp on the barbie!"

NOW GO GET YOUR F$#%ING SHINE BOX!!!

    Cheers!

    Frank

  • nd don't tell me I'm "ignorant" you dumb fuck.

  • Simon Day is so obscenely good looking that it should be illegal...

  • There must be much more to life than being really really rediculously good looking. Like me.

  • I hate it when guys have better hair than I do....

  • Comment removed

  • 2 bands i luv : from Scotland - Jesus and Mary Chain...from Australia - Ratcat. Both had rhythmically tight, guitar driven ,well written songs.

  • It is quite obvious from the tone of speach you l;adies are on the rag Knock it off change your tampons and behave or no more B&J for ya. thats Ben and jerry's . So don't get your knickers twisted. Cuz that ain't bad!!!

  • its quite obvious that the smashing pumkins, dinosour jr and and nirvana saw ratcat at the houpton in surry hills in the late 80's and then went home

  • I saw them there too! I remember they did a version of Tiffany's "I think we're alone now" and that was great!

  • her version's a cover too y'know, they weren't covering tiffany! It's an ole pop song, from the past...

  • yeah "i think we're alone now", great cover of a great song (the Ratcat cover, not too sure about the tiffany one)

  • hm why did this appear here? i thought it would come up as a reply. now i look like a newb! of course that aint bad is also a great song.

  • mmmm its in sydney i live there .. so....

  • RAT CAT Rock...the Rat Cat cd was my first CD i ever bought!!!! still love it

  • Hey a great australian band probably their best song, Perhaps their not as good as bands like My bloody valentine or Ride but their ours, Australian so we had to make do all the bands back then were cool back before boring grunge and even more boring Britpop took over. Hey why doesn't everybody stick to commenting on the song and video ,what is all this crap.

  • I know...

  • BACK IN THE DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • t m i

  • One of my all time fav songs. Greatness.

  • This video should be filled with comments like "wow! I remember this song - cool!"

Instead, we're subjected to a couple of cunts who found their way on to the computer while daddy was fucking the baby sitter and mommy is passed out drunk

Oh well, the vagaries of the internet huh.

Anyways - "Cool! I remember this song" :)

  • rufus102, I assume you consider me one of the "cunts" upon which you so pompously comment: ergo I shit on you, prick. I have forgotten more about good music than a piece of shit like you will ever know, so suck my dick asshole, and have a great night!

  • you idiot.

you had the chance to truly say what yóu thought about life, people, music and all you could think of was to pull someone down.

that isnt confidence, thats a complete ælack of self-esteem.

pretend someone is infront of you when you talk to them instead of talking the tripe you just posted.

  • why yes, yes I am in fact an idiot. thanks for noticing. I let my vid favorites and my comments on a hundred other songs speak for me on this site. Once in a while, I put my foot in my mouth and say something stupid, I think we've all been guilty of that. Most of my posts are shoot-from-the hip stupidity.

  • If you engage me in an intelligent discussion my friend, I will chew your ignorant ass up and spit it out making you look quite stupid in front of a lot people in the process, so think about it before you try to go all "intellectual" and "judgmental" on me, pinhead. Now, don't you have some shrimp to throw on the barbie or some kangaroo boxing to do?

  • I don't know about making someone else look stupid, but you're doing a damn fine job of making yourself look stupid. Congratulations.

  • yes sir, that's what I do! You are quite perceptive in noticing! Collect $200 and blow it on beers!

  • lol...

  • I know everyone here hates me, but I just want to introduce the word "sarcasm" to the Oz population.

  • I LOVE these feuds with morons.

  • When are you going to pop around for afternoon tea, Frank dear?

  • yeah-eh-eh-yeah, I LOVE YOU!!! Seriously, I am not as dumb as I sound! I love you Oz people!!!

  • Comment removed

  • BW, that is funny stuff; honest, good stuff. Well-played, my friend! Funny how life turns out, y'know?

    Frank

  • what does that mean?

  • I am an innocent. I AM self-corrective. Can we catch up? I AM TIRED of correcting meself, GODDAMNITT!!!

  • More like you turned out to be a complete tosser.

  • Thanks for wishing me 'lotsa luck'. Maybe you'd like to drop around for tea some time and watch the Wiggles with me.

    Mary.

  • I was very harsh with you Mary, but I don't like being called a "tosser". Speaking of tossing, at least I didn't say anything about tossing another shrimp on the barbie! And I do wish you luck.
