  • I just bought this today and realized that it only works on clean and not on dirty channel. I ran this over orange rockerverb 50 1st Generation with orange 2x12 close back cab. Am I right that this pedal is only for clean boost?

  • @TonyPaj You're probably putting it before your preamp or distortion pedals. If you put it before the distortion or overdrive, it will only make it sound a bit crunchier, but no volume boost. Try putting that in your FX loop and tell me if it works. Where you place any pedal in your chain affects your tone greatly.

  • @skylinephotographs Ah thanks man, I haven't tried it yet but I will tonight. This is how my pedal board set-up, my Crybaby Wah-Boss Chromatic Tuner-Electro-Harmonix Linear Boost-MXR Fullbore Metal-Boss Blues Driver and they are all plug straight into my Head's Input.

  • @skylinephotographs It works, thanks dude.

  • @TonyPaj The only way to increase the volume on either clean and dirty channel, is to put it in the effect loop.

  • They claim this is a copy of the orignal 70's LPB 1 or 2, its not even close.. the 70's was a simple transistor based boost that had a sweet spot around 1 oclock on most amps. This pedal is just clean volume no matter where its set. I wish they would make the orignal LPB 1 again cause this one sucks! unless its a colored clean sound your looking for. otherwise useless and a waste of space.

  • prob wont be able toi afford it lol

  • i want one ohhh...

  • Problem with this pedal is no way to control volume and gain

  • I think you demo it using solid-state amp, not tube amp. This pedal completely suxx if you want to use it with tube amp

  • I bought one of these and I do not prefer to use it. It is very muddy and I do not like an overly-thick sound.

  • @Bryguy2468 Agree! I tried this pedal with my Marshall class 5... this is not clean boost pedal!

  • @elitesidewinder The marshall class 5 drives super easy. You're driving the tubes harder thus making more gain. It's a clean boost.. you're just not using a clean amp

  • @JohnDCvlog Man, I understand that the more volume has Marshall class 5 then more it becomes overdriven BUT I compared EHX LPB-1 with Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster with my amp - and SD's booster sounds much better! It doesn't cut high frequencies.

  • This is how you demo a booster?...

  • This pedal is a total waste of money. It's unusable. It totally muddies up the sound. Transparent, my ass! The more you turn the knob, the more bass you add to the sound, and the more treble you cut.

    DON'T BUY!

  • @WTig3r thats because the louder any sound gets, the more bass is added

  • @ironzeppelin44 Lol, try the pedal and see for yourself. I should add that it overloads with tons of bass and mids aswell. The treble completely disappears. They should rename this pedal to MMO-1. Massive Mud Overload that is...

  • @WTig3r BUY that's a great pedal, BUT you need a really good tube amp to get the best of this thing ! and i never had mudiness even all the way up !

  • @WTig3r Agree!!! I posted another two comments about my Marshall class 5 and this pedal... I bought Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster, and it works great!

  • Damn I remember when I knew nothing about gear and guitars, and I watched these guys demos and believe in everything they say. I was soo stupiid..

  • These guys are absolutely clueless.

  • Can i use the Electro Harmonix LPB1 together with an overdrive pedal?

  • @victor1997ification

I use it with fuzz face, and it's great dark sounding combo. Guitar signal>FF>LPB-1>Vox AD50 VT ( UK 70 settings ).

  • @WinSedmica Cool! :)

  • Is the average age of the people making comments here 12? What a great pedal for someone who actually gigs!

  • @Bratsche1977 Totally agree.... some words from the clueless snobbery brigade. This is a fine a pedal at a fine price. Some people do not need a dark boost but remember, some do !! I sold my SHO boost for this hahaa. I like the fact it adds a suitable amount of gain and drives my OCD nicely. Pretty content and no one can tell me otherwise. I cast my own opinion..... SHEEP !!

  • Is this an FET boost?

  • I use the Behringer PB100 as a clean boost and it sounds fine, mixed with Boss and Ibanez pedals. Works for me.

  • Behringer pedals? Pfffft.

  • proguitarshopdemos does way better reviews. no bs & andy is a guitar beast.

  • All y'all people who are sniveling about the video... You Don't Have To Watch It! SHUT UP!

Personally, I am hoping this will add volume to my battery-powered Roland Cube on a street corner. I want to Boost a Clean, Acoustic-Sim Tone.

    So Thanx for the info.

  • @OldManArthur I have the same setup as you. Keep it clean like this video. If you plug a solid-body into a tube amp with it crank it hard. This pedal is the best thing I have bought in thirty years in terms of improving my sound. It's stupid-simple too.

  • wat song is thiss ?!!?!

  • why don´t they cange to expertvillage^^

  • 0:45 upss there's still paint in the nail

  • What does mean linear in boosters????

  • For pity sake....who is going to use a pedal like this to make their clean sound slightly louder? This is what you need to do, gear review idiot: First, a good tube amp cranked. Then, the cranked amp boosted with the LPB-1. This was a waste of everyones time.

  • @gbrycki You obviously don´t get to play much live. When you want to solo, you need to increase your volumen. And if you like the tone your playing with, this will boost it. Not everyone thinks that a MT-2 pedal and then shredding 15 notes per second constitutes a solo.

  • @marcarl I play out fairly often. How about you? I'm into blues & blues-rock, not speed-typing-style shredding (which is a valid style, just not what I'm into). If all you need to do is increase volume for a solo (and not increase the gain), start with the volume on your guitar turned DOWN to 5 or 6, then just increase your volume by turning the knob higher. A pedal like this is best used to kick a good tube amp in the butt, and really get the amp singing. Much different then a "fuzz box"...

  • @gbrycki I find that that turning down the volume on my strat or jazzmaster will deprive the pups of some of their tone. Therefore I do not see that as an alternative. But that´s just my two cents. I only play out occasionally now, but used to play coverbands a lot. Now Im 44 and slowing down..

  • @marcarl Well, we all have different means of achieving the same ends, I suppose. I just thought using an LPB-1 for a slight increase in volume was a bit of a waste of the pedal, but as you say "just my 2 cents". I understand about "slowing down" as you get older, as I'm in my 50's now, and lugging an amp around is getting to be tougher then it used to be. Cheers!

  • At least its not that other creepy guy that does all the boss demos, jason spencer

  • Look at the pedal, now look at the pedal closer to your face, now look at the pedal from a distance again, now look at me turn the pedal on from a distance, now look the light on the pedal while its on and closer to your face, now watch the pedal from a distance again. *end of "review"*

  • what kind of patch cables are those?

  • Is it possible to use this pedal to push my tiny terror into a natural overdrive or even a distortion? And if this is possible would there be a very large volume boost? I'm trying to get my amps natural overdrive without upgrading to a dual terror! Are there any other pedals which could do this effectively?

  • There's is a placement trick I've discovered with this pedal that provides the cleanest boost. Message me if you want the details.

  • @AceOfHeart2012

Where ? in trash can ?

  • @Buzz135 Close. Yo mama's snapper!

  • I used to have this pedal but now I have replaced it. The pedal was very noisy and the volume boost was also very inconsistent.

  • well at least its not jason spencer lol

  • tube amp modeler rofl

  • Damn, I clicked on here without knowing it was these guys! I'm going to watch a different review of this pedal, LOL!

  • @russianspiesx They could , at least , try to copy ProGuitarShop and the their super cool vids

  • Seriously... what the fuck?!?!

  • I have one of these, makes my old strat sound like a modern guitar, so saturated it's awsome!!!!

  • thanx

  • Anyone know where i can get those flat headed patch leads?

  • @astheends they're on musicians friend and guitar center i think, hosa makes them...

  • i just bought it, works great when I need to go to 11 lol

  • @MrROTD

    spinal tap style!

  • whats the song..pls!!??

  • I love how it's always the guys who live in their mom's basement and aren't actively gigging who are the biggest critics.

  • Cripes! How exciting can you make a pedal with one knob and one switch? Ooh, it has an LED that lights up when it's on. WOW!!! It's a great, little pedal. I 'set it and forget' with my Strat. Fattens it up ever so sweetly and when I kick in my DOD 250 into my Marshall 1987X Plexi well, I'll put my tone up against anything out there. The $40 LPB-1 does the same thing as the (obscenely over-priced) Dallas Rangemaster. Works nice as a stand alone clean boost for leads too.

  • @AceOfHeart2012 it does what it says it does pretty dang good, i use a mxr micro amp wot ya think of it??? it doesnt colour the clean tone either... and i think thats the whole be all and end all isnt it? something that doesnt take away tone but add a bit of clarity :]

  • @brimill1980 I run my Strat into an LPB-1first in the chain on my current pedal board. It does add a smidge of low end but with a Strat that translates into fatness which was my primary intention. I used to use an MXR Micro Amp for lead boost in a previous rig but now I use a rack mounted Digitech EQ for lead boost last in the chain going into my amp. The LPB-1 is an awesome pedal for what I use it for though. Really juices up those HS-3's nicely.

  • @AceOfHeart2012 sweet :] thats wot i was thinkin of usin it for :] i might have to grab one to buffer the signal like yourself i seem to lose a bit through the wah...

  • @brimill1980 That's the wah, not the LPB-1. My best spot for wah is 1. LPB-1, 2. Compressor, 3. Wah, 4. Distortion/Overdrive etc... the modulation effects if any followed by time based effects if any the into the amp. There's a mod for wah the gives it a 3dB boost when you engage it.

  • @AceOfHeart2012 have kinda the same chain dude :] well minus the LPB-1 aint got 1 yet :] 1- comp 2- wah -3 od3 [ tubey screamer type set up for dirty stuff ] -4 mxr [ for clean boost quiet stuff ] -5 amp... wots the mod???? i know for a fact the wah needs a new pot, the sweep is a bit limited in the highs, so i may as well get them done 2gether

  • @brimill1980 Not sure how to do the wah boost mod. I'm sure there's info online. I think it's just a cap you wire in that gives a 3dB boost to compensate for the perceived volume loss. I say perceived because I really think the loss is negligible that you're probably the only one who notices it anyway. I have an early '70s KING Vox Wah and I've opened it up so it cracks a notch or two brighter in toe down (tilt forward) position so in my case a boost might be too over the top.

  • @AceOfHeart2012 ah i'll maybe look it up :] true tho the loss is only slight so i guess i can live with it :] cheers tho dude :]

  • What did you all expect? This is a clean boost, you bunch of spoiled whiny turds.

It's not the most spectacular type of pedal, but if you ever played the guitar live, you'd recognise it's importance.

Now go complain about the next free demo video.

Everybodies a damned critic on the internet, but few can even play the guitar.

  • u dont know a thing a bout guitars this should be a boster not a picking guitar...

  • Very useful pedal. Perfect for the leads and for more solid sound. Makes a great combination with my 2 lovely sd-1 and my metal muff.

  • BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • so does this basically act as a volume, kinda like a preamp?

  • @medina1 yeah, its normally used to boost the volume for solos

  • It's not a clean boost. It overdrives your preamp a bit. Its like if you turned your tube amp up louder- it starts to sound a bit more agressive.

  • I think what people want to see out of this is not a substitute for turning up their master volume or gain a little (which is essentially all that was shown here) but rather to see how it can be used right at the point of break-up to hear what the "solo" sound would be.

  • These guys are probably the worst pedal demo people on the face of this planet.

  • No, look for "LPB-1 Demo By Larry DeMarco" for the worst demo on this pedal. The dude doesn't even have his guitar in tune.

  • This guys guitar isn't in tune either.

  • @the1stbeaner Have you never seen a Gearwire demo before?

  • @the1stbeaner i'm totally fucking agree... it's a boos pedal and he never explain anything and he never uses with overdrive... c'mon my mom maybe do a better job!

  • this is the wors demo of this pedal on youtube. they didnt even get into the good part of the pedal which is when you crank it to get a nice subtle drive. and they have it next to behringer pedals ontop of that

  • @MrAlfredocolon

at least its not that jason spencer guy

    he's creepy

  • @MrAlfredocolon What do you mean they didn't crank it? He turned it up all the way. He probably would've turned it up to 11 if it went that far...

  • @SofaCitySweetheart lol just noticed that he did. just didnt sound anything like it when its cranked. i blame the behringer pedals. btw if you never tried a behringer pedal i suggest you do if you want a good laugh. i had a phaser that still phased while it was off

  • @MrAlfredocolon @the1stbeaner

It's a boost pedal w/ one knob... He turned the knob up in various increments... What more do you really need?? o.0 He played softly, he played harder, and he did "crank it." Anybody who needs to hear/know more than that should just buy a POD and be done w/ it.

  • @MrAlfredocolon I used this pedal to drive my Marshall class 5... This pedal is complete waste of money! It cuts high frequencies! Other people say that this pedal sounds goon in FX loop, but I don't have one!

  • @MrAlfredocolon Pfff! Gear snob.

  • @minedarea call me what you want but thats just my opinion

  • Is this just me, but wouldn't the cheapy behringer pedals he has either side of it completly effect tone, seen as they arn't true bypass?

  • Yes, they would.

  • I'm looking for a signal-boost pedal.... And I want to get a 18 dB boost, to get a nice Frank Zappa tone out of a Pignose amp.... Will this pedal do the job?

  • It works good, definately fattens up my solos - I approve!

  • I bought it today, if i put between the guitar and the amp without any other pedal (guitar-->booster-->amp) there is hum, even when it's off.

if i put it in the send/return or after a pedal (guitar-->distortion-->booster-->amp or guitar-->distortion-->amp--booster) there's no hum

    what can i do?

  • it has a buffer in it to compensate for tone loss through long lengths of patch cable from between many pedals that may be true bypass. The added hum is the buffer i believe

  • if i want to use the ampli distortion and i need more volume, i have to put it between the guitar and the ampli or in the send/return?

  • Both will work, the first will apply the boost before the preamplification stage and the latter will boost the signal before the power amplfication, so both will boost your signal's strenght and therefore the volume. Which is better for your tone you have to find out :)

  • thanks.

  • Si queres aumentar volumen mandalo por el loop, si lo pones en el input vas a aumentar ganancia.

  • But if i put it in the input it will bring me more volume? or only more gain with the same volume of the amplifier?

  • It gets louder. I have the LPB-2 from back in the very late 70's maybe early 80's and it would turn a small sears and roebuck special into a stack of generic marshalls....for a while until it toasts the amp or blows the cheap speaker. Thats abuse though. If you use it right it just addssome volume and makes it sound a bit thicker.

  • I want the tab for what he is playing,It sounds so good.

  • super easy build. look into building one for a fraction of the price (a handful of resistors, a couple of capacitors, one transistor, and a pot.)

  • You know what, I actually like the tone he's got, add a little flange or chorus and that would be an amazing clean tone.

  • How many dB boost?!

  • No. Actually the extra power hitting the front end of the amp allows the amp to sound stronger and depending on the boost, gives it more clarity. With tube amps, it will really stand out. Think about if you had your amp all the way up, and added the pedal. There would be an extra "push". Now just think about having that "push" on any amp volume setting.

  • You're right...why don't you try to play on stage, run to turn up the volume knob just before a solo and then turn it down when you finished...or better, before and after a rapid fill in. Try it and then tell us the result

  • because if i want to use it ill use my me50,idiot

  • I agree. Reading your comment I thought you suggested to do as I wrote in my comment, which is not very easy as you know, I'm sorry, just a little misunderstanding...anyway this is not an effect...it just pushes up your volume!

  • I'm having some problems getting enough volume on my guitar when i'm playing solos.. Is this pedal good for adding a solo boost without overdriving the whole thing??

  • Depends. If you have a tube amp, and you set the LPB1 to a high setting, the amp will have just a pinch more overdrive. There's really no way of getting around adding a little more gain (distortion) if you boost your signal to the front of the amp (whether using your guitar volume or pedal). Really, the only way I see you keeping the same gain level but being louder is to have two master volumes on your amp. When it comes down to it though, usually you want more overdrive for a lead anyway.

  • yes it only adds overdrive on a tube amp playing loud because it make the tube break up. also check out the screaming bird for solo boost, i use the lpb-1 but i been told the screaming birds good 2.

  • This video definitely does it no justice. I have a single channel Vox AC15 amp that at best gets a rock crunch tone. The LPB-1 pushes the amp so I can get more saturation and a heavier tone. Also it doesnt color your sound so your amp sounds like itself, just heavier. Awesome pedal! I also use a pedal EHX makes called the Signal Pad. This gives me my clean tone. With these pedals its like having 3 channels!

  • the video does not do this pedal justice!! put this thing through a tube amp, everyone in my band now has one even the bass player, GREAT overdrive though our ampeg reverb rocket, '68 fender band master, orange reverberocket, and bass svt classic and svt 3...not good on clean sounds through tube though, you can buy this 40 dollar pedal and throw out all your other overdrive pedals! we play all fender (jazzmaster, jag, tele, tele delux, mustang)

  • that sounds really good. sounds like it would do alot of good for an acoustic electric

  • is this pretty much the same as the mxr micro amp?

  • basically, just allot cheaper

  • i have both, this thing blows the micro amp out of the water on tube amps. sucks for clean boost but if you are going for tube over drive on your clean channel this is the pedal!

  • i had a jcm900 also, but sold it as i think they suck. i recommend u sell your jcm 900, and dont try to make a bad amp sound good. i now have a laney tubefusion, which costs much less than the jcm900 and sounds better!!

  • I have a Marshall JCM 900 higain dual reverb amp. It has a god sound but the distortion sounds reamlly week. Even on full. So I need a boost pedal ( So I can get a rock-metal kinda sound). Any suggestions??

  • lol, i but the pedal didn't even do anything, they only show the pedal so i bet he changed settings on his amp xD

  • unless youre using a tube amp it wont do shit

  • yea well, we don't know what he's using do we?

  • all it does is boost volume so people stop talking about overdrive thats just a natural thing when a tube amp breaks up when you play loud. thats why when you buy a good tube amp it comes with lots of clean head room.

  • what are you talking about? it raised the volume, that's what a booster is supposed to (for when you are playing solos and stuff like that)...

  • what i'm saying is maybe he had the volumeon the amp really low and then utrned it up when he "turned on the booster"

just to make it look good, i mean why else wouldn't he show the guitarist?

  • tradition is my guess, check out other pedal reviews (especially from proguitarshop), they almost never show the guitarist... i can see your point but it would only hurt them in the end if they appear dishonest...

  • Comment removed

  • because that'd be stupid to not show us what the pedal does, I've tried one of these before and they do exactly what this vid showed

  • yea but, if you look at mos tof the pedal videos, it shows the guitar -.-"

  • not really. in most it just shows the pedal so you can get a clear view at what settings they are using.

  • what kind of a dip would demo a power boost pedal on a solid state amp?...sheesh. can we have a tube amp dmo?? pleezz?

  • Does it work with daisychained powersupply ?

  • yes

  • What cables between effects did you use?? I need some cables that doesn't take too much room in my pedalboard

  • those called pedal coupers look a guitar center

  • its hosa pedal cable, i got mines from best buy!

  • Get dimarzio cables if you can. Amazing cables, good price too.

  • i have dimarzio & guitar center live wire's and my only complaint about the dimarzio's are the lack of lifetime warrenty

  • makes me cry lol jk.

  • I'm planning on getting one, specifically since I'm a lead guitarist of a band and the solos are drowned out by the rhythm guitars. A boost would be nice for those moments :)

  • i did this and also grounded it(i grounded my ehx nano clone too): ,,This mod removes those components, which were not on the 1960s original, and converts the pedal to the more typically understood definition of true bypass.

Remove C4 and C5 - not needed. Replace FB1 and FB2 with jumper wires. Done.

It will then be 100% true bypass with nothing but wire between the input and output jacks when bypassed.

These instructions are for the Rev. B circuit board."

  • also, this pedal has some bass added on....thats not very good if you want it with od/distortion(makes the low end flabby and muddy), u can change C1 and C2 to 0.047uf instead of the stock 0.1uf ;)

  • just turn up ur volume next time instead of buying sumthing like that?

  • you dont know what you could use these for then

  • which boost should i get? seymour duncan sfx-01 , electro harmonix lpb-1 , or the Custom Audio Electronics MC-401 ?? im really into metal

  • ive built one myself. these are six fuckin resistors, 2 capacitors and one OP, thats it. the EH booster is absoluteley overprized for this little amount of pieces.

  • A case, a pot, a switch, two jacks, a power jack, an hour of soldering, etc.

  • I don't think it's overpriced at all. I wanted to build one myself a while back so I did a list using the cheapest parts I could find, including the enclosure, pot , jacks... It was about 25€ in parts (about 33USD), plus I had to assemble it myself.

New in the box it costs 39$ so I would save a total of 3$. Not worth it unless you're really into building effects for pleasure.

  • behringer pedals sucks? :P

  • Some of them actually aren't bad, especially at that price point. It's a bit of a gamble which will sound decent and which won't.

  • so...what effects does it have?

  • volume booster

  • The LPB-1 is not really an effect. It allows you to add a little volume to your signal. If you are using two guitars with different outputs you can use this pedal to match the perceived volume without adjusting your amplifier settings.

Another use would be to kick this in when playing a solo to make it a little louder.

  • The LPB-1 sounds cool, but those Behringer pedals are hurting my eyes and even though they are not on and may not even be plugged into the same circuit I believe they are somehow sucking tone and life force out of the LPB-1, and my eyes.

  • Hahahahahahaha!!! I thought the same when I saw the Behringer pedals... They are totally junk!

  • Yeah really, if you're going to demo pedals don't have any other pedals in the chain, especially not and Behringer.

  • exactly!

  • How does it cost? i really want one!

  • about $40 I have one too, but i Live in Rotterdam and it was about €40

  • Can i boost with this pedal also my crunch or lead channel for more Gain ? sorry for bad english

  • Yes, you certainly can :)

  • Can you play through the LPB-1 with a fuzz when you want to switch to rythm to lead/solo in show? (sry for bad english :P, i hope you'll understand)

  • would it be good to run these after a Wah Pedal because mine kid of kills my tone

  • you wah switch may not be true bypass....if its not it'll suck tone out.....do some research ... its also super easy to replace the switch

  • booster are easy to make i mean not even a eq i mean you could build this

  • Which one is better for booster of a ds1 pedal? LPB1 or Boss SD1?

  • The LPB1 is a clean boost, the Boss SD1 is an overdrive...

Take your pick. I'd go for the LPB

  • thnx!!
