And yes, I work at a library. And yes, I have had people call me and ask me how to set up these things before their kids get home so they can suprise them. You would not believe how many kids toys I have help set up over the phone with someone. :) Eh, we're supposed to automatically know everything anyway.
To all the people out there who are angry about this. How about you try to give someone advice about how to set up or do something on one of these things without trying it yourself. Also, try having a program with a bunch of teens or kids who know how to use it when you don't. They will eat you alive and never listen to you again. This is simply doing your job. How can I tell you, over the phone, when you call, how to set something like this up if I have never even touched one?
Wow, applause, applause. I happen to work at a public library in Pennsylvania, and we have a video game room that requires constant maintenance and testing - that's my job. ;-) So there is nothing wrong with their actions - it's what needs to be done.
The NLC is demonstrating an important point with this video: there is no reason why learning can't be as immersive as any video game. New Media literacies and 21st Century Skills are evolving and thousands of Libraries across the world are exploring video games, digital enviroments, virtual worlds, and other MUVEs; also web 2.0 tools like Facebook and Youtube and have been for quite some time now! The power of serious play is well documented in countless academic papers and research journals.

I've read it and I don't think it will change anybody's mind. It's the fact that the library board is sitting around for an hour playing ROCK BAND while being PAID with TAX DOLLARS!!! And at the same time, we're being asked to increase library spending! How about we cut these folks, divert the money saved towards libraries, and then they can play alllllllllllllllllllll the Rock Band they want to - with their free time!

I read the report. New Technologys!! Usefull Skills!! Beneficial To Children! Blah Blah Woof Woof.
They don't fool me...it's a fuckin' game. And I know better than the over educated idiots they got their info from...video games make children LAZY and diminish their ATTENTION SPAN. Oh, I'll say they are broadening...just look at the asses on the state workers.
Libraries need to get back to basics. The only entertainment they should offer is the sort found in a book.
Yeah, it's a game - it's for recreation. So were novels 100 years ago. Yet libraries are full of novels - are you suggesting that libraries should remove anything that's merely for recreation?
Look, some of us need to get beyond the outdated notion that games are worthless distractions. You folks who are criticizing this are living in the reactionary past, just like the folks who decried TV, radio, the automobile and even the translation of the bible into English.
Video games make children lazy? Wow, talk about a severe generalization (and stereotyping). Gaming has a lot of benefits. Sure, most of them require no physical exertion, but that doesn't mean that they're useless.
Video games can help in building problem-solving skills and improving hand-eye coordination. Furthermore, there are plenty of educational titles out there for consumption.
Also, DDR does anything BUT make children lazy. See the box in the front on the left side of the table? Yeah, that's DDR. They'll get a nice workout with it. How about reading up on some games before condemning them?
uh...where did you get the info that video games reduce the attention span.. i'm not a gamer, but i do know that playing a video game does not reduce the attention span...someone playing a video game needs to pay ATTENTION to details...just ask the pilots who use simulated flight games aka VIDEO GAMES
man, this shit takes sooo fuckin long.....thats why i hate rock band, the shit takes too fucking long to set up,
nice video though dude!

If this video hadn't contained the worst loop of music ever, it wouldn't have been bad.

I like how the lady in pink in the begin of the video looks confused, about all this stuff. Then she starts reading the manual LOL!

As a taxpayer and citizen of Omaha, I applaud this endeavor. A great way to keep with the times and increase the usefulness of the library system.

Yeah, diminished attention spans. Because 100 hour RPGs sure don't require attention span, or problem solving skills. Nope. Not at all.
Go crawl back into the hole you crawled out of.

More like tax cents. The whole Rock Band set costs a few hundred dollars and there's thousands of tax payers.
