Mozy, great video. I'm a consultant and nearly everyone i speak to does NOT have a backup. They simply lose all their pictures, documents, etc when their HDD dies and never get them back. Most people aren't aware of the risks involved with keeping their data on one device. Though not as dramatic as smashing a laptop, hard drives have limited life and WILL die if you use them long enough. It's a matter of when, not if. I've used mozy for over two years and am very happy with their service.
Oh dear. So you've smashed up a perfectly good laptop - immoral really don't you think? in the UK we're being persuaded to reuse and recycle, if you want to do more business here you'll quicly find that most businesses need to sign up to some sort of CSR. - that laptop could have been wiped and donated to a school/africa/charity anything - smashing it to pieces on the streets is a bit vulgar. Not OK
Great, fun way to get the point across. People who are calling lame are lame themselves. BTW, I have Mozy & my Macbook's HD shit the bed about 6 months ago. Got it replaced for free & didn't lose anything. The only negative is that I had to download all the dmg files manually & sort through them which was a huge pain in the ass. Their automatic backup restore tool didn't work for me after multiple attempts (would just sit there) & their tech support was useless.
BTW, I like how Darth Vader said no -- I guess the lack of a backup explains why he had to chase down Princess Leia to get the Death Star plans back! :)
Great way to get the point across! Sadly, it wasn't entirely surprising how many people said they didn't have a good backup of their files. Glad to see someone deserving (someone who did do backups and had an old computer) got a great upgrade!
i've MOZY, and i get the back-up point being made. asinine to ask someone to bash-up without back-up. even if some moron would do so, shows a real lack of sensitivity on the part of MOZY! this isn't cute MOZY, it's smarmy and stupid. rethink your marketing/pr firm...thumbs DOWN!
Lame video, yes. But the point stands. I have Mozy. My computer died. I got a new one. No lost photos, no lost budget files, nothing lost. It's like five bucks a month (not sure what it is in the UK). Just get it, or Carbonite or whatever's out there. I'm partial to Mozy because I live in the same town as Mozy's HQ, but the point is to do remote backups! Putting everything on a CD doesn't cut it!
I love how much effort it took to smash that old Dell laptop; I bet the hard drive was intact too... I wish the new ones were as rugged as the old ones!

I love Mozy it's awesome. You have to make sure it's selecting all your files though. Doesn't do it by default. But, all in all a great program. My site sells it. pcperformanenow Chad Nordland
I have to say I've been using mozy for a year and very impressed even uploaded close to a terabyte of info. Did take three weeks to upload to. Mozy you can smash my laptop anytime :) well after the scheduled backup :)
Mozy has saved me twice, I purchased a year subscription after the first time I lost data and successfully restored everything from Mozy. I currently backup 41 Gigabytes of data from my home office machine. This is my data from all of my contracting work. It's easy, set it up and forget it.
I love Mozy! 14.3 GB backed up and still only 5 bucks a month! :) After losing several YEARS' worth of files due to a *brand new* computer crashing beyond repair, I'm not taking any more chances! And no, this isn't a "fake" or paid comment! I'm a real person with a real desire to prevent the kind of awful loss we had a few years ago! I've been a customer since 2007 and have zero complaints.
PS. yes I "love" the internet. Today, a few hours online, almost all went well apart from the fact that I was the victim of a link to Paulo Coelho, and this got me due to MOZY SPAM. So give me these few minutes of revolt, and now it's probably off my chest. tchau and kisses. bye.
Oh no, I've fallen into a trap, should I read all the comments first? The first one, apparently was a few hours ago, only . . .I never arrived on the scene of the crime on time!
"So he made a silly mistake . . . but realised it himself . . . corrected it, and even more couragously; admitted it. Write him off, why not - it doesn't fit your little, comfy, bourgy wanker idea of the world. Go read the king of cliches, Paulo Coelho, he will make you feel better, loser."
If there are any smart people out there - of the next 10 comments (those on this page b4 this post), ALL the capital lettered ones are phonies or at least the WORST losers you would not want to send bad money after. PS. don't include not earnest esarnett, who posted during my rant.
I back-up with Mozy, NOT. Who are all these twats, helping sell this crap? Look at the phony people paid to comment in favour of Mozy. Okay give your money to them, why not, you've got too much anyway . . . Hmm a dissertation, wouldn't be more than a few hundred kb, or how many meg could it be? I would save it in one of my 5 or so, free web-based emails, some of which have NEVER given me a prob for about 15 years or so, put it on a couple of discs, a floppy too & not waste money w/ Mozy.
I backup my 3 computers with Mozy. Really easy and works well and reliably and doesn't consume all the CPU. Even better with the latest version which lets you pause and restart backups.
BTW, how can someone be smart enough to write a dissertation yet be dumb enough not to back it up????
well if she was smashing up a MacBook it might have been a waste... but the loss of another Dell Windows box... nothing to be crying over. And I backup with Mozy so I would have been able to do it....
Does this invasion into the UK mean anything for Europeans customers in general?
I'm pretty happy with Mozy. Storing now 80GB of mostly pics and school work that would suck to be lost. With Syncplicity to sync my laptop to Desktop for later mozy:fying. I'd say it's worth the money, I paid much more for S3/JungleDisk and it was overly time consuming and unreliable/inconsistant.
Haha! I'd have taken the MacBook. I back up using Mozy, Dropbox, SVN and local backup on external drive. Over-backed-up maybe?? Yeah like most of you are over-insured. ;-)

I would do it only because my computer is shit.
I don't care about the only data I don't have stored that's in any way important; my music.
Thanks to the internet I can pretty much get that back pretty easily.
If you'd asked me this a month or two ago you would've saved me $500 in repairs.
