Jesus Christ taking this punishment is THE payment for all sinners who change their wicked ways and follow Christ.

This is a gift, a gift of life. For this punishment he took, he took out love for sinners like me, that I may not suffer this form of punishment for my sins.

God is just so he must punish for sins. and any sin the punishment is death. Anything short of that he would not be just God for he is perfect and must punish for rebellion.

Man is not created to die but created to live forever. As sin entered the world so did death. We will die a physical death but our souls are saved from death being saved by Jesus Christ.

Jesus took the punishment of sin on him and bared our punishment. He is Lord and savior.
