@geertdehoux ...listen to Guiomar Novaes. My husband and i have an old VOX record of her performing the Etudes, and nothing compares! Of course her technique is phenomenal, but she used it properly...for conveying her rich and thoughtful interpretations. Her Chopin work is other-wordly, and this record is one of our most cherished in our library.

Very LOUD, fast, and ambitious, but no heart at all. Aggression is not the same thing as passion, but Pollini does not know the difference.

His strong technique is excellent.

@rekab7070 i don't see how pollini can really be accused of soullessness, especially where chopin is concerned.. restraint on fireworks and rubato doesn't make him a mechanician, but rather thoughtful and respectful to the score.

@rekab7070 what surprises me about pollini is as he has "matured" he plays his old "fireworks" (such as chopin that made his first reputation) as if he's trying to prove that he still has the most magnificent technique around...the opposite of rubinstein who , even with some loss of the youthful "speed" - somehow brought even greater clarity to his concepts ,musical lines, and only death and complete blindness stopped him..

while they are indeed magnificent players and world class performers - and are rightly celebrated in THEIR times - listening to the likes of Argerich, Pollini, etc...ALWAYS makes me RUSH BACK to find something Rubinstein to listen to ...sort of just to "clear" my neural listening pathways - especially when it comes to chopin...just my bias, more likely, but I can't help it.

@Darrning ma che modi sono... per tua informazione "Maurizio", o meglio il Maestro Pollini ha suonato anche Stokhausen, Nono ecc... Roba "nuova". Comunque resta attualmente uno dei pianisti migliori del mondo soprattutto per l'interpretazione di Chopin.

@MrNavarra94 Il maestro Pollini ha e avrà sempre la mia stima e il mio riconoscimento... Purtroppo da un 10-15 anni a questa parte non è più in grado di rinnovarsi; è un artista finito. Suona e risuona e risuona e risuona e risuona sempre le stesse cose (e nemmeno più così bene...), non ce la faccio più a sentirlo! Suona tanto per portare a casa il suo cashet (non più meritato per le cifre che chiede, per quello che suona e come lo suona).

Ti dico solo che le ultime tre volte che è venuto nella mia città (preferisco non dire dove) ha eseguito tre programmi completamente dedicati a Chopin(!!!); come se ci fosse solo lui.... Ed ha eseguito (mediocremente) anche gli stessi bis...

@Darrning Si da il caso che Pollini sia uno dei migliori (se non il migliore) interpreti di Chopin! E poi ogni pianista ha le sue preferenze... Ad esempio Berezovsky suona principalmente Liszt ed in parrticolare gli Studi Trascendentali, Kempff suonava soprattutto Beethoven e così via. Ogni pianista ha il suo compositore ad hoc. Poi ti ricordo che quest'anno ricorre il bicentenario della nascita di Chopin (1810-2010) ecco spiegato perchè Pollini l'ha presentato alla tua città per due volte.

@MrNavarra94 Non sto dicendo che Pollini non suoni bene Chopin; anche per me è il miglior interprete di Chopin e di altri. Quello che dico è che è mortalmente ripetitivo nei programmi dei suoi recital. Altra questione è che ha eseguito nella mia città i tre recital dedicati tutti e tre interamente a Chopin, ma in quattro anni....! Persino nell'ultimo recital che ha dato (sarebbe il terzo, quest'anno) ha suonato solo Chopin!! Poteva almeno fare Chopin-Schumann visto che ricorre l'anniv. di entram

Informati tu meglio; conosco pianisti che hanno un repertorio da far impallidire in confronto a quello di Pollini (senza sminuire la qualità d'esecuzione!). In ogni caso la grandezza di Pollini non sta certo nel repertorio (che è piuttosto il suo punto debole, e non come quantità ma come varietà di compositori); i suoi punti di forza sono ben altri e decisamente più importanti. un saluto

@Darrning Forse quello che dici è un po' estremo ma concordo parzialmente. Purtroppo Pollini non sta trovando una direzione interpretativa nuova, soprattutto che tenga conto del passare degli anni, in positivo e in negativo. Non sento in Pollini le vertigini di Lupu, i sommi esercizi di stile di Sokolov e non ha l'estro stregante e la freschezza della Argerich, che a quasi settant'anni è ancora un uragano!
