one of the best scenes EVER....ANY american kid (or any other) has had this exact moment in life....and it was done brilliantly...everyone can relate to it.
Great choice of upload--this is absolutely my favorite scene of the entire series--and that is saying a lot, as the series is full of incredible moments. But this scene, where Jack Arnold expresses concern and empathy for his adolescent son's romantic turmoil just gets me every time. First of all, most parents are condescending when it comes to pre-teen angst, "you'll work it out," or "it couldn't have been love, they're just kids..." but Jack Arnold recognizes and absorbs his son's pain
@MeredithOD Great comment. Of the whole series I also remember this clip perfectly. It is a masterpiece in and of itself for what it shows as you so aptly described. When I become a parent I'll never make the mistake of thinking that love or a broken heart is any less just because of a young age - makes no difference at all how young someone is, it is the same feelings.
@MeredithOD You really hit the nail on the head with your thoughtful analysis of this scene. Thanks to that, it has opened my eyes and is one of my favorite scenes in all of WY. Thanks !
That's so sad. lol It shows that Jack knew that Kevin needed him but he waited for Kevin to come to him first. He didn't push his feelings out of him because guys just don't do that. lol :)
I kinda wish I was one of you. My Dad never had anything at all to do with me. No hugs,no talks,no "how ya doing," no camping, no fishing, no hunting, no (I love you.) Never even called me Son. What hurts is, I never could understand why.
It never really hurt me then, but as I became a teenager, (as I am now)
Thanks so much for adding this. This is one of the best scenes from the entire series. It reminds me so much of my Dad. As the other poster noted, the hug is truly moving.
Same here...my dad passed when i was 4 and it lets me know he wouldve done the same as jack arnold. As I remember my dad was compassionate...Its a powerful scene..

What I love about this scene is Jack shows empathy towards Kevin. It's rare to see him do that very often on this show.

padrak18: Wish I knew what to say but I don't. They say certain things skip a generation. You wound up with the compassion. You hang in there.
