"I'll pray for you" is a magnanimous prayer that I come to Jesus. But then... if God answers that prayer and I'm saved, isn't it because He made me do it? Since it's God working his powerful magic on me, I wouldn't really have a say in the matter. God can just manipulate my brain so I suddenly believe in him. And if God does that for me, why not for everyone?

I am an atheist. I would assume that when a religious (ie christian) says "I will pray for you" during/after a discussion means that they believe since you don't believe (regardless of what you said), you are not going to be accepted by "god." I assume that "I will pray for you means that they will request to god that you be forgiven if you see "the way" that they see, eventually? Or just in general? I'm not a lunatic so I can't say for sure.

I've only been told I'm being prayed for once or twice and appreciated it. I've told him it's unlikely to do anything, but I appreciate why he does it and appreciate that he wants me to be saved and stuff. But then he's one of the few religious people I've known who isn't incredibly dim.
I'm an atheist, and I hate people who tell me in a condescending way that they'll "pray for me". But I actually do appreciate it when I'm going through a difficult time and someone offers to pray for me. Even though I don't believe in god, their good wishes make me feel better.

When people say they'll prey for you it means they will ask God to help you in who knows what way. Its an act of kindness. Bashing something people rely entirely on and assuming God doesn't exist is an act of denial to the possibility that God does exist. Actually if God answered your opposition's prayer and changed your mind that WOULD make their argument right. We theists don't view this debate as a hobby or a competition, the intention is to bring people to the full truth of Christianity. "I'll pray for you" is a magnanimous prayer that I come to Jesus. But then... if God answers that prayer and I'm saved, isn't it because He made me do it? Since it's God working his powerful magic on me, I wouldn't really have a say in the matter. God can just manipulate my brain so I suddenly believe in him. And if God does that for me, why not for everyone?

I am an atheist. I would assume that when a religious (ie christian) says "I will pray for you" during/after a discussion means that they believe since you don't believe (regardless of what you said), you are not going to be accepted by "god." I assume that "I will pray for you means that they will request to god that you be forgiven if you see "the way" that they see, eventually? Or just in general? I'm not a lunatic so I can't say for sure.

When people say they'll prey for you it means they will ask God to help you in who knows what way. Its an act of kindness. Bashing something people rely entirely on and assuming God doesn't exist is an act of denial to the possibility that God does exist. So when you say "I'll pray for you", it can be considered offensive to some, and not considering caring in the slightest. Many people do not want you to pray to any form of god for them, and if that is their wish then you should always respect that, regardless of your own personal beliefs.

Okay. You don't fully understand this. Praying is having a conversation with God, yes. Were not forcing him, just asking him. But he's gonna do what he see's right. Praying for someone is like thinking about them, and caring for them.

I don't really think that by "preying for you" a religious person is trying to forcibly change you mind, but more try to ask their God to help enlighten you so that you may find "the truth." A good follower of God would just as Him to help you find the truth so that you may find salvation.
I would assume it's them coming to terms that they can't find the words to help you so they are asking for words that would try to convince you.

No one has to have a huge agenda to pray for someone or all people.
If people say - I wish you well? I wish you good fortune. I hope all goes well or even if they say "Bless you or God Bless You" when you sneeze - it is NOT something wrong or harmful.
One has to wonder why others get offended by prayers. No one is forcing anyone in that situation. And it is a personal choice. One does not pray to God to do "our bidding". Most people I know pray for health and goodness for all.

Prayer isnt normally used to change people minds. I pray for healing for people as well as if someone is going through a hard time that their load is lightened and they can push through with strength. Dont just cling to ONE aspect of prayer.
