Dudeski, 'bass' is pronounced 'base' in English, not 'bahs', and 'bi-wired' is pronounced 'bye-wired', not 'bee-wired'. Lastly, it's gold-PLATED, not goldEN-coated. Interesting review, but I have to ask why you would recommend 100 Watts of amp power as the cure to their dullness? You never said whether you actually tried a more powerful amp with them and if this cured their apparent lack of top end, and it sounds like you haven't, so why do you believe this without trying out your own advice?
I own these speakers for a few months and they are driven by a cheap Yama amp. So i'm not satisfied with their sound at all (dull is the word that comes first). What amp do you recommend for them ? Also i don't understand how much minimum power you said is required to drive these speakers. Thanks.
@jeffbeck70 Hello. Try NAD amplifiers. They are lot more powerfull than other amps at similar price range. They are ugly as hell, but they work well with 9.2. Try C355BEE, I'm sure it will drive them well. And for "brighter" and less bass boost, use silver speaker cables, like QED Silver Anniversary XT. They are not expencive and they sound awesome.
Thanks for this review. I was thinking of getting a pair for my surrounds but i can't stand worm sound. Just a question what you think of WHARFEDALE VARDUS VR100 SPEAKERS would this model be a lot brighter?
@oOADROo I tested them out on a Pioneer amp for rear surrounds and they sounded fantastic, Bright sound and smooth bass but as front speakers it was ok not brilliant. im going to get a pair real soon might do my own review
So, would you say that Monitor's RS1 sound much better than RS1? Is the bass better than in Wharfedale 9.2, because i heared them in a store, and they didnt a very good bass, mids and highs were good.
i agree with the pairing them up with a desent amp,i run mine on a Marantz pm7200 (95wpc at 8ohm) and they sound ok...need to use my kef sub to get the very low notes but for there size they impress...plus i only paid £100 (brand new) for mine..
Your Logitech boxes on computer ...are bether of this funny firm - Wharfedale...here one TV - Wharfedale =50$ maximum.... but your boxes looks like good in vision not for quality ...my friend ...Thanks
Proper 70 or 80 watts is enough. On AV-receivers and cheap integrated amps 70W=30W if even that on 8ohms. They don't have enough amps to drive speakers. I have audiolab 8000m monopoweramps and they give 125W per channel, double for 4 ohms and quad power for 2 ohms. They have REAL wattage rating and drive almost anything.
im buying Wharfedale XARUS XR-5000 and i have no idea what amp to get and where to get it from the cheaper the better really,i was looking at this could you tell me if you know weather this will be any good thanks dan
Anyways i like these speakers quite a lot, although as troybroomfieldCO has said Amp choice is important, Im thinking about upgrading my amp as I think my current amp is letting me down.
Ok, first of all, I never said that 9.2 sounds bad. They sound good for the money, but not amazing. Lets take Monitor Audio BR2 - same price as Wharfedale 9.2 in EU... now that thing sounds amazing for the money. Not to mention an extra 100 Euros for Monitor Audio RS1 (witch I will do a review soon), now that speakers sounds fucking amazing for the money. And hey: you can drive them with a 30 watt amp :) For 9.2 you dont need a quality amp, but an amp with enough power reserves to drive them.
at a store i compared the MA BR2 to B&W 685 and the B&W were a 100x better than BR2. after that i listened to Diamond 9.4 and they were better than the BR2 as well
Wharfedale speakers can out perform many speakers that are 2 to 3 times the amount. Get your info and audio gear straight before you start reviewing equipment - let the pro's do it.
I have B&W monitors that cost 5x's the amount of those 9.2s and the 9.2s can hold their own against the B&Ws. You need a quality amp, cables and source material, and I mean Quality - not no bargain priced amp with 16gage speaker wire - it needs to be a quality amp with good connectors and at least 12 gage 99% pure copper speaker wire and you will hear some rich smooth sound come out of those 9.2's. Try upgrading your equipment with quality equipment instead of some crappy cheap amp.
