You guys are geniuses. One thing I noticed,,,in the first armlock switch, about half way through it if the opponent tries something sneaky or maybe just for diversion a kimura is readily available, maybe even enough to finish the fight without completing the armlock switch...and by the way, I like the first finish better...lol...sorry
I used to be one of those dicks that talked shit about GJJ. But that was only because I was ignorant to them. As soon as I seen a Roger Gracie vid I was hooked.
I love the ending where Rener says, "...hopefully mine wins" and just rolls away and Reyron says, "That wasn't sick...that wasn't sick." Hahaha. Oh, man, I love you guys. You guys are hilarious.
"Mine is more grandmaster ish"-Rener, WORD!lol. I like Rener's because I never seen an armlock transition like that. Ryron's is more common, and looks sick as well. BUt yeah I vote for Rener's!
I have watched hundreds and hundreds of instructionals from every group and the Gracie combative course and these two instructors is the BEST by far. They have made me believers in Gracie Jujistu.
well technique number one is for when you can't take that arm then your forced to take the other. Technique number 2 is like for when the elbow slips or they're trying to escape. All that talk about who's is better or more efficient is totally irrelevant.
If i could i would claim rigts to Ryrons'... iv been using it for a while now, i just had the idea whilst sparring! definitely sickk... sorry Rener! :D
Now thats unconvential warfare. Those guys are great instructors. Seem like genuine nice guys. If it wasn't for the Gracie family Jiu-jitsu would not b where it is today. Thank you Helio !
well here is the thing with these moves. First of all the way to defend and start to escape an armbar would be to cross your arms as they are doing then opposite arm the they attack would be fed undernear the leg holding the head down and not accessible to be broken. Calve crushers would be your best bet or even better going to full mount. Great moves to pull off on a newbie but not at blk belt level
If anybody doubts how effective this whole system is. Just open your mind a little, and take the time to learn some of it and try it out next time you are rolling with a friend at practice. Its not the best complete fighting system, but as far as an excellent self defense system for smaller individuals, it really works, and is easily complimented with mma skills to be a tuff to beat package.
They are great instructors maybe the best when it comes to explaining details. Brazilian Jiujitsu is not MMA that was prover over and over again. The way to counter this tech is to elbow escape the foot when he spins on the other side to arm lock. You have to do it before he crosses his legs and feed it between your legs and escape. Like I said this low percentage.
Put credit where it is due. Kosen Judo = Origin of BJJ. Rickson said in his book that the japanese held back on teaching and taught only the basics because they were non-japanese and thus had to learn and evolve the art on their own. Helio did improve it, But he did not invent it. ALL of it is still from Kosen Judo.
I cant believe anyone would critique these guys. Try walking into their academy and tell them its low precentage. I use these techniques in my daily warm up drills and use them often while sparring with great success. Just drill it!!!
lol they know these are low percentage against other black belts.
There are levels and at the black belt level an armlock alone is low percentage yet alone taking weight off and spinning to the other side. As soon as you uncross the feet you will loose them.
there are other moves you can do to get the bar with out having to take off the weight or expose your self to an escape. As soon as you peal off the opposite arm you can fall back with it straighting it out the other arm thatyou would brake is now eazy to straighten out, combined with a bicept lock.
@ 1lostinspace Yeah I agree bout the fact there are other ways to retrive the arm. But that dosent make this move low percentage. As for taking the weight off there is a sure fire way to prevent the escape when u make the hip transition its a little something Royler does with this move. Not sure if Im getting the grip break your describing do u have a vid link? sounds good id like to see. Bicep lock it top move shame its illegal in comp : (
uncrossing your legs will result in loosing position. I try to almost reverse armbar the arm that is holding my leg, when you fight that arm there is nothing left for him to keep the other arm from been straightened out. The second move if would work if he did not bridge hard trying to escape, I prefer to mount
@1lostinspace Far from it. Why don't you inform me. Who are you and what do you know? What's your history? Who did you study with? How many times have you tried these techniques to determine that they are "low percentage"? What do you prefer in their place? Go ahead, enlighten me.
yeah you seem very receptive to what I have to say. When I was at the Gracie academy both of these guy were little kids. I would never go to my back for armbar first of all. In a real fight you get your face smashed going to your back. That's all I am going to say, there are far too many arm bar escapes and ways to counter low percentage crap like this.
@1lostinspace They were kids when I was there too but they seem to have grown up into some damn fine instructors. What do either of these techniques have to do with "going to your back"??? When were you at the academy? Maybe I know you.
for Ryrons technique. i tried it to grab the far arm like you do but i wasnt able to get control because he was holding it back as well. what do i do in that case
On the first technique, if he puts his free hand behind your knee instead of in front of it, is it very likely to work if you try to fight his hand out and then complete the technique?
I love it! Videos like these have inspired me to keep striving for new techniques to control my opponent as well as my emotional responses, both "externally and internally ".
This was a funny as it was effective. Tell me, which do you think is best for working on a bigger opponent?I gotta roll against a guy who has 70 lbs on me (kinda fat) so I think either might work. But Ryrons seems like it might work best since the guy cant react too fast.
okay, so what is the ringworm killer stuff? and does it work for the whole time that you are training, say for like a couple of hours straight. i'm needing a good product...
the second method is how security officers tend to cuff people that are resting arrest. please try to give us some more ways to perfect these. thank you
I knew there was a belly down variation from there I've just never seen it. Seen the switch many times. I like that both are instant taps. For me Ryron wins though Rener's technique is amazing but since guys at my gym dont defend with the arm on top there's no I'd hit the belly-down(though i can't physically do either of these moves anyway i wouldn't be able to hit the belly down if i could.) So Ryron wins. Awesome video guys.
@Petriealright you'd walk right into a triangle. It's best to get a Rear Naked Choke grip with your arm underneath the back of the knee.(They had it on top in the video that solidifies your grip but as you saw that walks you into the belly down armbar which is REALLY BAD) and just come up. There's really no way to stop the switch armlock (Ryron's technique) if they switch you are going to be tapping.
@Petriealright In theory that works. However, when you lift the leg off/over your head you no longer have control of it and as we know in BJJ control is EVERYTHING. Any decent blue belt will simply switch their hips thus eliminate the angle you need come straight in(180 degrees) and therefore giving them the angle to lift their leg around your arm to the back of your neck as you come up. You have to understand the armbar arm is not the arm in the triangle it's the other arm that's in the choke
cant wait to try these out in the gym!
