Don't lay the blame always on Indonesia. The Dutch & Portuguese came to colonialised and by this they detached the people of the archipelago who were one before the Europeans. Political violence in East Timor is not because the people wanted independence but to fullfilled the desires of the mestizos who felt more Portuguese thereafter they inflame the locals and because of this the ordinary people suffered instead of living in peace and harmony.

The blame lays heavily on Portugal. If they had equipped the country with a proper military force alongside an adequate infrastructure, then they would not have been invaded and occupied by Indonesia during 1975. Portugal should be ashamed of itself in regards of its treatment of its former Empire.
