Who's in the mix for this video? Great stuff! Looks and sounds like a Solid House scene took off in Nairobi. Last time I was in Nairobi was 1983. Always dream of returning. I only lived in Kenya for 3 years, but they were the best of times. Picture of the guys mixing it up on the deck is classic.
Not everybody who went to maddy was after cXnt MissisipiBryo. We only wanted to dance with music and socialise as far as i know. By the way who do yo tink went to maddy? ya next door neighbour.
i lived in nai 19 yrs but sorry to say it I never stepped into Maddhouse even a single day. It was known to be a hardcore kuro den and little else. Probably 80% of the people who sampled those deadly girls as well as the girls they sampled might be 6 feet deep since then from ukimwi. However it's good to know sum pipo have good memories about the place.
@MississippiBryo - Oh my. They had an excellent happy hour on weekdays and it was patronized by a lot of corporate types. The girls would be around but were not permitted to be aggressive. The music was low enough and good enough for conversation and the hors de vors were awesome. You truly missed out on an wonderful piece of Nairobi culture. Don't let the reputation fool you.
@surambaya if you say so man, I guess there is more than met the eye then. F2 on Moi avenue was another story altogether! Though it too had its kuros (but not in the numbers of maddhouse) it had a better rep and great music and a deaf guy selling njugus and orbits for 50 cents at the door downstairs hapo entrance. Won't even get into Club Visions on Kimathi St memories ..too much nostalgia.
@MississippiBryo - Now that you mention Visions tears came to eyes. The nostalgia is just too overwhelming. I can't believe that with all the traffic those guys had, they couldn't sustain the place. I will always miss the white leather where I learned about some of the finer details of human anatomy. There were some really good clubs back then. I don't even know what they have these days but everywhere I go, I tend to see too much immaturity and showboating.
@surambaya Man ! those were the days...Visions was my club with the late DJ Alloys damn! nostalgic memories ! I came home last year and I was flabbagsated with the clubs I found in CBD !None can even be compared to Annabells back in the day leave alone Visions ! Lot's of showboating like u said buddy !
@roughko - My old man would head off to Cantina at Wilson and then I would go to Hollywood until it was time for me to head out to a real club. There was a time Nairobi was just out of this world. Can you imagine my horror when I went to Ka-Choiee (Choices) on Baricho road only to find that the strip joints at Langata Shopping Center had killed it. I tell you, even Moi Girls (Modern Green, MG) was nice compared to what we have these days. Annabell's was hot too.
@surambaya Man Man ! and you forgetting Paco Prez bringin the hse down in Boomerang lol ! Me and my gal where members in Visions buddy ,all it took was have 300Kshs and we had mad fun and still have change for chipos in Munyiris ! The clubs we've in downtown lately are like them clubs we had in river rd back in the day brother . Pathetic and even all MG kuros moved to CBD! Then we had this classy club called DOLCE lol Revellers nowadays don't know what they missing bro, we had all the fun then !
@roughko - Ha ha ha - Munyiri's man! Now you have brought the good old days back to life. Paco Perez and DJ Tubbz, Hussein Abdalla, General Leftie, Sister Lucy.... those were the guys that rocked the party that rocked the body. Those were the days you clubbed until the sun rose. Not these days I hear that they close early. BTW - DJ John Rabar over at Homeboyz and I went to school together and that's how he got his inspiration. You are right that langas are now in CBD - they even blog.
@roughko - BTW, here's some good 90s mix - just type in "90's Old School Mix #2 (Shanice, SWV, Sybil, Soul II Soul...)" in YouTube search and you will find the 15 minute video. Can't post link because of the YouTube upuzi.
