@wadagoodgrl Well, this is a fairly advanced move which requires a lot of control of planes behind your back (and constantly changing positions of your hands). My best advice is to work on the less complete 'forward' and 'reverse' versions first, then worry about linking them once you are very smooth with those. As far as linking them goes, the video shows them linked in wallplanes (more difficult to reach). Try linking them first in wheelplanes, with a 180 turn in there to help with reaching
How do you link them together? Do you just turn your body between the 2 going from forwards to reverse to forwards and just eventually move your body less and less each time to where it's basically just your arms doing the turning?
Yeah, exactly. Start working on doing the ones from the beginning of the video. Learn both forward and reverse. Then start tossing in a 180 degree turn like I do at 0:35. Do that same turn to get back to the other direction. Practice this till your comfortable and then start moving your body less and less and reaching more with your arms. Eventually, the goal is to be able to spin in wallplanes like is shown at the end. This just takes more flexibility and arm reach.
Well, this move isn't really a beginner move. But here is a good stretch to help you work on flexibility behind your back.
Stretch one arm behind your back toward the opposite hip. Grab the hand from the front with the other hand and pull gently around the front toward your belly button. Hold 15 seconds then repeat on the other side.
heeeyyy iv learned that but yuta calls them cosmos cool i tried this like 3 days ago and couldnt get it but by wanting to know something with a cool name i got it
LOL...fair enough. That works! Just remember to take the time to learn each single direction. Being able to do them might be helpful later for transitioning or variety. Peace.
LOL...weapons? Nah, they're fire poi (though not on fire, obviously)...purely artistic/performance-oriented. No violence involved, I can assure you, I'm a total pacifist! Appreciate the kind words!
Oh yeah! Those are actually one of my sets of fire wicks I'm using in the video....just covered with plastic bags and socks to keep everything clean from soot/smell.
Yeah, this is not a beginner move, by any standards. It may appear simple, but considering the BTB concepts and mental challenges, this move can be quite difficult to master. But definitely keep working with it and it will fall into place soon enough! Good luck!
Well, if you want to send me a more specific private message, I can give you more precise advice. Basically, work on spinning with your hands in the final positions to gain control there (hand behind/across your back and the other across the front). Then work on switching. The final part of putting forward and reverse together is tricky, but with practice, it'll come.
I beg u!! Please do this again but slower and with like one hand then the other... Please!! This is soo awsome and i want 2 learn it so bad, but its so hard 2 follow... Great Job though!!
Yeah, kinda. The hand in the front is doing one spin on the far side before crossing around to the back to do a spin on the far side there. Therefore, if you watch one hand, it only does spins on it's opposite side...one in front of the body then one behind. You will always keep one hand in front of you and one behind and your hands will always be on opposite sides of the body.
Is the song straight One More Time or is it Daft Punks Aerodynamic remix? Because i only listen to that one i haven't heard the original in so long but the song in the back does sound like the one i always listen to.
hehe, if you ignore the poi for a few moments you look kind of "special" when doing the move...however, it is a very cool move. so far I've gotten a butterfly, 3 beat weave, and some turns but I'm stuck on reels now
Maybe a couple weeks for the basics...and about a month to put it all together with variations, etc. Of course, I was already proficient with both BTB weaves prior to starting with this, so that helped. It's kinda tricky to learn, but once you master it....it flows super smooth. Lots of fun!
Well, that is a misconception...fb crossers involve a poi coming from behind the back (arm wrapped around) and spinning to the front. Mind meltdowns involve one poi in front/back and concurrently L/R at all times...while constantly switching. It has less body rotation than a crosser which is mainly kept in motion by body movements. Just ask around in some poi forums, it is a recognized accepted move with some variations as well.
I'll thank you not to post rude sarcastic comments here. I am trying to teach people new moves, not discuss the semantics of nomenclature. Thanks. PS...for the record, this move was featured on a well-distributed/respected DVD video, so I did not just make it up.
Thank you very much for this tutorial! It's exactly what I needed!
