Everyone is so hard on Anna. But I blame any man, or any woman for that matter, who makes movies on someone who is married. They are just as much if not MORE so to blame. They no they are off limits, why do they have any business tempting married persons in such a way and not receiving any of the blame?
Also consider that she fell in love for the first time in her life being around 30 years of age! She was ripe to finally experience something real after all those years of forced marriage and forced marital sex with old, boring husband who loved her but just just wasn't at all appealing to her
Abielayla, What makes you think that she was the one who chose a husband for herself? Do you have any knowledge of the epoch? She married him being a young girl, probably teenager (I can't remember now because I read a book long ago), and she did that because her family wanted it, that's how marriages were arranged at that time. Your judgemental attitude is ridiculous in this case
@alexcabotlover Conventionally beauty is a "Barbie"beauty, maybe that is what they mean. Although it is not the kind of beauty that makes you on your knees...
I love Helen McCrory's voice! It's just so captivating! It draws my attention in every movie I watch with her in it!! :D She was perfect for Anna Karenina!!
Her husband is dull and speaks to her with a dry tone, not a loving one. Vronsky speaks to her with passion and caring. Though she is commiting adultry, and it is wrong no matter what, it does seem fair that she gets some real love in her life.
@butterflygottafly Karenin loves her. It's just that he's more in control of his emotions. Vronsky has a lustful passion behind what he says. Karenin has feelings. It's just that he controls them.
Anna and Vronsky are controlled by their feelings. And notice Karenin is the only 1 of the 3 who doesn't try to kill himself.
Anna and Vronsky are NOT to be admired. And would you be willing to excuse Stepan for his crimes against Dolly?
i like the holywoodized version but i like this one too. this one seems closer to the what i was imagining when i read the novel, before i had seen any film adaptations to it.
@Mandinko23 Well, maybe she should have considered his ''boring self rghteous ass'' BEFORE he married him, so that she wouldn't ''need'' an affair to get away from it all, because you see, there would have been nothing to get away from.

I don't understand how people can say that Helen McCrory isn't 'conventionally beautiful'. She is damn gorgeous. You all must be blind.

There are cases like this- love at 1st sight. To men, visual perception is important. And yes, Anna does want love in her life, not just duty!

@knightleyemma Sorry but this is not love at first sight but lust at first sight !!!!

I like her as Anna. She's not exactly conventionally beautiful but there's something very captivating about her that's perfect for the part.

@butterflygottafly That doesn't mean that he doesn't loves her. It's just Karenin speaks sarcasm as his mother language.

her husband is a creep, no wonder she had an affair, and left his boring self righteous ass.
