Well I knew Eddie, The different balls is baloney.. Here's my favorite story happened in the 70's and Eddie was in his early 50's. Team from Seattle wins the National's. They roughed him up that year . Next year he's back to Seattle again and Eddie is rested. He warms up 20 mins before the game -. The first batter hit a pitch back to him for an out. Eddie struck out the next 20 batters When ESPN picked the 10 fastest baseball pitchers of All-Time--Eddie Feigner was named number 10
Eddie Feigner was a really great guy. He actually taught me how to pitch. I played one Inning on his team in Marion, IL. The King and His Court is an amazing team. He most certainly could throw in his 100's. He was the greatest pitcher of all time.
God bless him .all i can say is i wish i had a chance to see him play.I definitely believe his skills.I am lucky enough to have the Legendary "el Zorro" Felix Rivera ( a three time national champ and three time all american 1st team pitcher)All i can say is at age73 Zorro is the best pitcher in Bklyn NY and has won 8 championships for my team ,which plays A div ..Not saying he was as good as The King, Just saying the old school pitchers are clearly cut from a different cloth
My father played against him in Mass in the 70s or 80s. Anyways, He hit a double off Feigner and then was told to get picked off. They were great, no doubt about it, but my father said that before the game, they'd tell them to try, but to somehow, let Team Feigner win. Great man, anyways. RIP
The King was clocked at 104 on the radar gun. He struck out 73 batters in a 34 inning game. Eddie has showcased his pitching skills by striking out Major League Baseball stars & Hall of Famers, Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Brooks Robinson, Maury Wills, Harmon Killebrew and Roberto Clemente in succession. I'd say he was beyond "showman"or "top tier". Playing with only 3 team-mates against 9; He was simply the best that's ever been.
The great Herb Dudley stated that Eddie was a great showman but not in the top tier. Ty stoflett an another hall of famer said the same and by the way Herb holds the strikeout records 55 in 21 inning game.
No, that's a cliche calculation (similar to declaring Little Leaguers can throw, adjusted 100mph). Its simply not true.
However, Feigner could throw in the 90s, but only need to throw a max of mid-80s in all those entertaining games, in order to get all those hitters out.
(Don't let any 'exaggerator' tell ya different.)
He was still practically unhittable, especially if you were unwilling to make an adjustment.
If you come from Oswego, NY then you should be proud of the softball played there. We played and beat Eddie twice in the 70's. I remember he threatened to walk off because Del Leween was striking out Eddie's guys by pitching between his legs. I also heard he wouldn't come if Larry Eagan was allowed to pitch because Larry had beaten him when Eddie had a full team behind him. Yeah, Oswego beat the Queen and her Maids too. Great memories. Great Softball.
i saw them in 1977. he warmed up by throwing 3 balls at once to his 3 teammates. it was the craziest thing i ever saw. he pitched blind folded and also pitched from 2b & cf. i also saw the globetrotters with meadowlark & curly in the 70's. while they were amazingly freaky talented i'd have to say the king was even more of a freak of nature. rest in peace Feigner you brought joy to this old youngster my friend.
I pitched against him late in his career and the old fox did one of those behind the back drag bunts for a hit. What a showman. And yeah, he struck me out.
I saw the King and his Court 40 years ago in Indiana. His team used only four players. An IN batter sent a fly ball into left that would have been an easy out in a "normal" game; it wound up as a double. That was no trick ball. Feigner picked off a runner by firing behind his back. His velocity to the plate was astounding. The coolest play was when an IN batter grounded one, and the Court's catcher actually beat him to first base to take the throw for the out.
Is there any existing footage of The King? I have been searching the internet to no avail. There is a web site for The King And His Court, but there is no video on it. Please! Somebody must have some!
Feigner used a trick ball. Light and also soft, allowing him to dig his fingers in. No doubt he was a great pitcher but the trick ball gave him the extra pizzazz for show business.
Forty years ago, my father's minor league team played against the King during a charity event. My father was the only one on the team to even make contact by grounding out to short. lol. Thats how good the King was. He will be missed.
rest in peace, champ. i saw him pitch in anchorage in 1975 and sat right behind the catcher. the way the ball sped up, paused, corkscrewed, etc, bordered on witchcraft. both he and his court made it a memorable evening. thank you so much, mr feigner.

Do doubt the feats you describe were awesome. But over a lifetime Eddie was the best ever. Of course kudos to you. I'd brag about beating " The Man".
