  • That's only on the pro

  • The keyboard is not backlit

  • STOP SHAKING !!!!!!!

  • Interesting that he says Centrino. It isn't. Centrino is when it uses Intel CPU, GPU and networking. This has the 9400M so it doesn't use any Intel GPU's, so it isn't Centrino. Bit of a nitpick I know, but he was wrong all the same.

  • Jon the point of a MacBook is for lighter use if you want to have FireWire, card slots and other peripherals get a MacBook pro.

  • @Omgtym8 Neither do you care about passing your English exams.

  • "blah bla mummble 2.5 bla mubble....eh much lighter and bla mubble.........." me: what????

  • Bit of sneaky sleight-of-hand on Apple's part. They removed FireWire, introduced it again on the 13" Pro to much relief, but never brought it back on their standard MacBook line (the white unibody one loses it).

  • i've one of them and its MacBook Pro... i've mac and vista together and its pretty awesome...

  • is this a mac book or macbook pro

  • its a macbook pro but the 2008 13 inch models they just called macbook (aluminium). I thinks its odd too.

    Hope this helps ;)

  • @theCODFATHER1989 ummmm no there was a macbook aluminium and a macbook pro aluminium this is just the old macbook but they kept the same design for the macbook pro and changed the macbook to white

  • @iMaxGTV1 There was a MacBook Aluminum, they have just added new features and renamed it to a 13-inch MacBook Pro.

  • @JohnHFilms i sed ther was but its the old one the new one is just white plastic

  • @vetren123 mac book

  • Excellent review!

  • it's called video editing

  • fucking hell man keep it still, your making me feel dizzy

  • damn...he is going to brake it with all that shaking for goodness sakes

  • my macbook gets 3 hours at least!

  • @AndrewsAwesome mine 8

  • it's not then the macbook looked like that.

  • no it isnt

  • Comment removed

  • i would love one but i'd rarther not £950 is quite a lot of money i know it's apple but i'd rarther not but that's my oppinion

  • they aren't £950 any more they've done quite a large price drop :D

  • oh cool i didnt know so how much are they now would u say?

  • Don't be so lazy. Go to the online Apple store and look for yourself -.-

  • some rich kids then!!

  • then who uses vistas and xps?

  • I have an original Macbook that's about a year and a half old now and I can still get anywhere from three to five hours out of the battery, even running multiple apps (Safari, iTunes, and Word are almost ALWAYS on)

  • 2 things hes is wrong at

    1) Ok the firewire on the normal macbook is gone but there is a firewire 800 on the macbook pro and if you bought the new macbook (not the pro) you can just get an adapter cable.I just checked the back of my 2000 euro pc guess what NO FIREWIRE

    2) mini display port? ITS A PORTABLE what are you gonna do take a screen with you on the train??? Extra adapter cables?? the cable is about 2 inches long do you need a truck to take it with you? No it fits easily in your pocket.

  • i got imac n is totally awesome

  • UHH... NO firewire on an apple???

  • Comment removed

  • yes there is now, apple bought it back in June at WWDC, they also rebranded the unibody macbook 13'' MacBook pro so Apple's entire line now has FireWire 800/400

  • a slighyly ..rrrrrrriduced battery

  • He sounds like he gets angry at the end. Lol.

  • all the reviews all say that the biggest disadvantage of the new macbook is no firewire. i have never come across a firewire based product ever so the no firewire doesnt matter to me at all :) i hope...

  • it has firewire NOW LOL, has firewire 800 and an SD card slot

  • is the new macbook's battery life really shorter than the old white ones?

  • the new ones apparently lasts around 5 hours

  • but the new 17" macbook pro lasts generally around...8 hours or so

  • You can round that down to about 5 and a half to 6 hours for the MBP 17. Still good though.

  • Comment removed

  • the new 13'' Macbook pro gets 7 hours battery life

  • i have to say, that looks rather tempting, but seriously, I built a desktop pc with higher specs for a fraction of the price...

  • yeah, but with apple you pay for the build quality. I guess that's what makes them so expensive.

  • luckily apple are very responsive to customer call outs.

Im happy to bet £10 that with the next mac book there will be a firewire port as there are so many people are complaining and apple is not the company to be in the position of loosing costumers

Though as for the mini display port I can't bet on you that will change as apple need to be saving space on the mac book itself and a wide amount of the customer basis is not interested in TV connectivity and extra cables are a small price to pay

  • my iphone runs osx so tjat technicaly makes it a mac?

  • No mac is a reference to the hardware and the OS.

Because the iphone is using the hardware for a phone and a cut down version of the OS itself it doesn't make it a mac.

Though as time goes on I'm pretty confident this phone will become as technical as a mac.

  • aluminium, i learned a new way of saying aluminum

  • Comment removed

  • you know English is British, not American.

  • yes i know but it was named aluminum first then later named aluminium. I should also note that when i typed in aluminium it red underlined it as bad spelling even tho its not.

  • if your pc is using US english, then thats why it's highlighted.

  • paul, yungceezy is correct. you simply pronounce aluminum wrong because thats what brits do

  • the only reason i dont watch gadget show anymore, is because i live in france and we only have one tv hooked up to the satelite and a) my parents watch the soaps and b) we're an hour later than england.

  • I'm pretty sure these guys are paid off by quite a few companies to say certain things. Most certainly not unbias reviews thats for sure. The Macbook looks nice. Pity I don't watch the show anymore, after they started blantantly lying.

  • no one use firewire any more now there is USB 2.0

  • and soon to be USB 3.0 so your entirely right

  • that will be good

  • erm no, Firewire 800 is miles miles miles faster than USB. FireWire is the only option for me in the video editing field. Importing video via USB, you get appalling static from the footage, USB also Can NOT control the camera via the controls in iMovie, only connected via FireWire it can, USB is said to run at 480MB/S but it never gets to that speed its too random and fluctuates to different speeds, Firewire is so much faster for external disks as well

  • It's all very well and good moaning about the lack of firewire and full size DVI out, however the industry never properly adopted Firewire and the mini DVI is a real improvement in connectivity.

It's time to move on and relish evolution in technology. It's just as while complaining at the lack of SCSI !

  • Core 2 Duo

  • wtf is firewire

  • like apple's version of the usb port

  • ohh thanks firewire wow ripoff

  • SWEET !!

  • why my $2800 dollar macbook doesn't have a phone modem onboard is beyond me. An extra $49 dollars for the usb modem dongle. come on! $2800 flippin dollars!

    Dear Steve,

there are still plenty of places where dial up is your only option. must i carry yet another friggin dongle when i travel? The macbook should come with a free dongle bag.

  • i bought it 2 weeks ago and its so FREAKING AWSOME BUY IT!!!!!

  • the track pad is glass but has a thin layer of plastic over it so it feels like the old one the reason that the thy so not put on blu ray is because the macs would be way to expensive and no one would by them and if you want

fire wire 400 get a usb adapter

  • It is already way to expensive for what it is. You can get a 17" laptop with bluray for less then $1000 nowadays.

  • With shit not a os

  • at the risk of sounding terribly pedantic, it's not a centrino chipset - it's nivida; and doesn't have a dedicated graphics chip. Whilst the 9400 graphics is a massive upgrade over the previous intel one, it's integrated into the main controller and shares the main memory. If you want dedicated you need a MacBook Pro.

With you on the firewire though.

Otherwise, really enjoy the show! :)

  • Apparently Apple have created new drivers for the USB ports on the new MacBooks that improve their performance by some 80% (or upto at least), thus giving them the same kind of speed that FireWire 400 achieved, so instead of putting a seperate port on that does the same that arguably very few people ever used (most that did have a MacBook Pro as they're professionals), they just used USB which is cheaper to implement and made them run faster.

  • it has a nvidea chipset not an intel one =p

  • how could you possible dislike mac. they make the best of every product they make

    mp3's-ipod

    cell phones-iphone

    notebooks-macbook/macbook pro

    desk tops-imac/mac pro/mac mini

  • Set top box- Apple TV

    Software- iLife, iWork

Pro Software- Final Cut Studio 2, Logic Pro, Shake

Wireless Routers- Airport Extreme, Time Capsule, Airport Express

  • With over 6000 games on the iPhone and iPod touch you could argue best handheld console as well?!

  • Lest we not forget the best operating system.

  • dude Mac is so far ahead of every other electronics company its not even funny. Mac rapes!!!!

  • You're so right.

  • I think you'll find they're made by Apple, get your facts right.

  • google asus manufacturers macbooks

    They won the contract.

  • they are made by Asus note made in china on the casing.

  • You retard....almost every brand of computers have their speck tech made by other companies...for example...the harddrive, the ram modules, the battery, the cpu and gpu, etc are made by different companies but the engineering and design is made by apple!!!!!

  • Are you a idiot? Are you saying the CPU, HDD was designed by apple? or even the LCD panel in the macs?

  • NOOOOO im not saying apple designs or engineers the cpu, gpu, hdd etc...im saying that OTHER companies do that like intel, tochiba(hdd), NVIDIA etc and that en design of the COMPUTERS and LAPTOPS is made by apple!!!!

  • and my first comment was not for you

  • I love how the apple fanboys gave me handsdown to facts that I presented when all you spew is garbage. Got to love the cult of apple; ignorant cows.

  • Im not an apple fanboy!...I do prefer them but the day that windows comes out with a better operating system than apple, I will handsdown switch to windows.

  • You Just Can't Afford One Can You? Well, You'll Be Happy To Hear, As Well as Spending £929 on my NEW MacBoo, I'm Paying an Extra £80 per Year for Apple PRO Care, And An Extra £60 On MobileMe, Think Ya Can Handle That Smart Guy??? eSBee

  • Wow, thats great

Just think, If you saved all that money you could buy a house and move out of your mothers basement.

  • i want a new laptop this Christmas!!! and i'm still like, halfway if i'm ever gonna buy this. is mac REALLY worth it? i mean, should i just buy something else like hp or dell? please help.

it's sad how i only have hardly about $700 right now. making money is HHHARD when you're 15.

  • Mac's are worth buying if you need it for business. It has a game deficiency which might be a problem since I guess you would want to loads of games on it. I am 13 and have a Mac and I love it.

  • Business is one application where mac is completely useless. The business world IS the pc world.

  • it's just a matter of time before alot of games will be running on macs...for instance COD4 can be played on macs already

  • the games that apple bring out on Mac are generally more expensive than buying a game for PC's

  • Get an Alienware, 1200 bucks will get you a great gaming laptop. A Sony Vaio has twice the specs as a mac and for the same price and looks sexy as a sack of dimonds on Jessica Alba's tits.

  • Yeah but they run visa ;]

  • So does my 900 dollar laptop. They all have the same architecture so I can run OSX on my laptop.

  • Not legally.

  • Well, your right, but that's because Steve jobs is a profiteering glutton and doesn't and really want anyone to have freedom. lolcapitalism.

  • The last time they had Mac clones the company almost went bankrupt. Steve Jobs told them they'd go down "the shitter" and then their business would also go down "the shitter".

  • buddy i feel you, im only 13 and im buying this macbook too, expensive at young age but i got 850$ from paper route, sold my ipod touch on ebay for 500$ then more x-mas money is plenty enuf to buy my new macbook aluminum! :) cant wait

  • How the hell did you get $500 for your iPod Touch? Lucky sell lol. They're less than that brand new, even in Canadian dollars.

  • ur just jealous that you dont have this new macthis new mac owns! white ones still nice but this is so much better but so expensive

  • Ive got one and i love it. I never use firewire so im fine with it not having one.

The keyboard backlight is only on the Macbook Pro which is a bit of a bummer.

  • Backlit keyboard on the higher end macbook too.

  • Too poor for that one. :(

Ill just have to buy a tourch.

  • Dude, so am I. Haha. I'm still saving for the lower end one.

  • i hate the new mac book the old one is better

  • I disagree. I have a new mac book pro and it is much better than the previous model

  • They take a while to grow on you but as soon as you go back to the old design it looks dated compared to the new ones. They are a feat of engineering.

  • Howcome?

  • lol aluminium....i didnt know you spelt it differently, thats awesome, still its funny to hear

  • eh...i still love the white macbook. it looks more classy and i dont think the old macbooks had much problems cept getting stains off and keeping it very white. anyone disagrees?

  • I dunno... The new Macbooks have much better video, processors, memory, hard drives, keyboards.... And the aluminum should prove to last a lot longer and better than any of the white plastic ever did!

  • I mean aluminium!

  • I think the new one comes in white also. I'm not sure, but i think i saw it somewere

  • No that's the old one with a Superdrive. They are selling off the old ones.

  • Oh okay:) I like the new design better so it doesn't matter:D

  • Don't forget another significant drawback with the new Macbook Pro is the relatively low quality screen. If you watch the Macbook's screen in the video, the colors constantly shifts while the 'book is being moved around.

  • They've gone with glass screens which increases glare, reduces color accuracy, and put in a crappy panel. The cult of macs obviously blinded by this issue because of the glam rather takes design over functionality.

  • That's the idea behind a mac. It's a statement to design and creativity.

Not to mention how the mac was built for creative people, that's why there's such a divide between people who love windows and people who love OS X

point it macs ar not for everyone, they never will be. And this coming from an apple fanboy, too!

  • LOL I'm in LOVE with my new aluminum macbook...but i dual boot windows vista with boot camp...Does that make me a bad person? :D

  • yes it does, lol.

  • love the way English say aluminum!!!! haha

looks like a nice laptop, i'd expect nothing less from apple. I'm personally waiting for the day when they release a touch screen laptop. =]

  • We say it differently cos we spell it differently. Aluminium rather than Aluminum. We have an extra "I"

Oh and Firefox is saying the British spelling of Aluminium is wrong. Time to correct that methinks.

  • the macbook is amazing but this doesn't really say much. it's really just a commercial. Also someone better tell this guy how to say aluminum

  • The proper UK English is Aluminium. This show is from the UK, he's from the UK, so he's going to say it the UK English way.

  • Actually both terms are correct, but "Aluminium" is the universal term/pronunciation.

  • Mine is in the mail right now...hope it'll come tomorrow :)

  • There is a system utility, but you could always try an online speed checker, but be careful which one you use, as some are a lot better than others.

  • hey does anyone know how to see the speed of ur internet...on a mac?....for instance on the windows vista in network connectiomns...ur able to see ur internet speed!

  • at the top of the screen on the right hand side there is a battery symbol and next to it there is a little indicator of bars (just like a cellphone) that shows how strong your connection is!

  • yeh i see that...but is it possible to see the numbers for the speed...like for my pc it says 100mgbits....

  • There is a system utility, but you could always try an online speed checker, but be careful which one you use, as some are a lot better than others.

  • The new macbooks get 4.5 hours of battery life easy. I was using one for over a week before I decided to exchange it and upgrade to the new pro. It just takes a few charge cycles before the full battery capacity can be realized. It's a great machine though.

  • OMFG!! DO WANT!!!

  • I have an old macbook and I never use firewire

I think that firewire is more of a desktop computer thing

  • just because a battery is smaller doesn't mean it will last less longer, surely the gadget show should know that by now!

  • only 2 hours with your old macbook? something wrong there with your old macbook

  • COOL I have the old one!!! I WANT THE NEW ONE

  • me to

  • nice I have the old one

  • John Bentley doesn't mention the killer feature - the fact that the mac operating system wipes the floor with windows, especially Vista, making all other laptops redundant.

Has anybody owned a mac for a decent period of time and wanted to change back?

  • At times... me :)

  • u can run bootcamp on a mac soo no

  • I've had a MacBook Pro since May '08 and the aluminium MacBook since November. Before this was using Windows PCs since version 3.1. There is absolutely no way I could go back to using Windows computers now, especially Vista.

FYI I was using Vista which made me switch to a Mac in the first place, as Vista couldn't do the audio production stuff I wanted to get done.

  • Great job for switching! I have been a mac user since I was 6. I never had to suffer. My heart goes out to Windblows users

  • Lucky you! Yeah, I've always used Windows, but Vista is the straw that's breaking the camel's back. I'm getting a MacBook this summer hopefully. =]

  • If your doing AV stuff it's probably the way to go. But if you have no experience with them I would test one for a while. I used one at work for a while and was a bit lost at the beginning! This is coming from an experienced Windows, UNIX, Ubuntu, Fedora and BSD user!!!!

  • I equally have used Windows since a young age, sure it's given me some hard times, but so has OS X. Trust me, Windows users don't need your sympathy, there's nothing drastically wrong with either platform

  • how come it was already turned on even though he only just got it out the box 4 the first time lol

  • lmao the magic of editing. :)

  • Macbooks come with fully charged battery !

    silly billy

  • Sir Humphry made a bit of a mess of naming this new element, at first spelling it alumium (this was in 1807) then changing it to aluminum, and finally settling on aluminium in 1812. His classically educated scientific colleagues preferred aluminium right from the start, because it had more of a classical ring, and chimed harmoniously with many other elements whose names ended in ium, like potassium, sodium, and magnesium, all of which had been named by Davy

  • this is a cool video - make me wanna get a MACBOOK...

  • I have just seen that the poster is actually Canadian...You should know better.

Sorry Americans...Even though you spell it and pronounce it wrong as well

  • Tut Tut..An American trying to teach us English..what ever next?

You say it wrong and you spell it wrong..English is a language that developed over many many many hundreds of years.

It is a sophisticated language which the Americans have bastardised over a very short time.

Please refrain from trying to tell a man who speaks perfect English that he is pronouncing the word wrong......You have no idea.

  • who gets to keep all these toys etc after review?

  • Well you americans need to spell things correctly, then we wont have this problem :P

    Its Aluminium not Aluminum

  • alu-mini-um. u get it right

  • You freak! If you're going to speak English, speak it properly!!!

    ALUMINIUM

(Sometimes I wonder what Americans speak, because it certainly isn't English..)
