@paulostroff99 Well, you're just showing that you are familiar with a rather well-trodden opinion that Richter's is the "definitive" recording. I think Richter's version is a great one, but I don't think it's any better than Gilels's. ("Should you wish-check it out.") And yes, I've heard both of them, and no, I'm not stupider than you are. Oh, and FYI, you're not sharing new information when you say that Serkin was one of the all-time greats.
@goodguysdoll-LOL, Shows what you know. As a matter of fact nether of them hold a candle to the best version of all time, and that is played by Richter. Should you wish-check it out.
It was Russia 1958 Chaikovsk' contest, luminous virtuosity of Cliburn in rendition Concert for piano nº 1 of and the Concert for piano nº 3 of Rachmaninov made him still on gain a aclamation with the public during eight minutes. The Soviet jury had to request permission to Nikita Jrushchov to grant the first prize to an American. "He is the best one? " he asked, "then they give the prize him!"
This was his return to Russia in 1962, four years after winning. The Tchaikovsky, Concerto 1, Mvts 1 2 and 3 are also on YouTube...from the same concert. Just the best thing I have ever heard. I would love to see the 1958 concert if anyone knows where to find a DVD or CD.
I love the unrushed tempo in the first movement. They play as though they had all the time in the world - what a different age.
